In this hotel is our go-to when we want to leave the hustle and bustle of Dallas and go down to Galveston and just relax. This hotel has everything you could wish for it's such a low price. The first thing that hit you when you walk in is how it smells so clean and then the staff is above board so kind so helpful you get to your room and you have a kitchen with the stove the microwave utensils plates cups a coffee maker a full size refrigerator. This hotel is in an area called The strand it is not on the active Beach it's just a couple of miles from the beach which makes it wonderful you can go to enjoy your time in the Sun and walk along the Beach area go to bars go to restaurants and then when you're tired and you want to just come and rest this is the place to be so quiet so serene we have gone back many many times it would never stay anywhere else. The general manager seems to be there 24/7 he always greets you with a smile and is so kind many times he has brought us towels and washcloths while his staff was working with customers his name is Ali. I would suggest that people that are over 55 choose this hotel as well because you're going to be on the historical side of the island and you can enjoy that and then come back to just lounge in your room the most comfortable bed and such great bedding so clean.
and comfy !! big wonderful bathrooms they have handicap bathrooms that are very very helpful that me and my husband use. There's free coffee with all the good stuff you can squirt into your coffee and flavor it up also a little store that anytime of the day or night you can take your hotel key and get in and purchase little goodies or things that you might want to eat in your room or heat up since there are microwaves and stoves in your room along with pots and pans everything you could imagine to have a really great time on a budget it is always affordable. This last recent trip we met a lot of workers with the gas company and guys have to go out into the fields and come back dirty and they were so tired We would see them coming in as we were walking out and they would say this is the only hotel that they all stay in because they work so hard and know they're going to get a good hot shower and peaceful rest along with great TV very good channels. One visit and this will be your "go to" hotel in Galveston we are so blessed that we found this hotel a couple of years ago we just got back two weeks ago and we're about to go again this next month just to get out of Dallas and have a relaxing nice time and feel like family with the staff....Linda

Hotel's Favourite
We chose Candlewood Suites as our pre-cruise hotel since we had stayed here once before and had a good experience. We booked with points and drove 12 hours overnight to get to Galveston. We arrived at 9:30am and Ollie at the front desk let us check in! We were able to shower and nap before sightseeing. The hotel itself was very clean and comfortable. We will be back. We love Ollie!

My husband and I booked a 2-night stay here. We chose a queen sized room, and it came with a kitchenette complete with dishes, pots, stove, and dishwasher. We were impressed! The bathroom was big, and the desk in our room was also a nice size. Our bed was a little too firm for my liking but it was fine. The attendants were very helpful. The hotel offers “borrowed items” where you can request to borrow household things, like a crockpot or even a small game console, for example. I thought this idea was really cool. One downside, I guess, was the price. It was a little too expensive for my husband’s liking, as it was over $400 for our 2-night stay, but I wanted our stay to be great- and it was! So keep the price in mind, but you will be paying for what you get!

During my stay the hotel smelled like marijuana on all 3 floors. The second night I was there we came in from the pool around 10:30pm and there were bugs in our restroom and in the kitchen. I went to the front desk and was told by the night clerk that they are aware of the problem and that there’s nothing she can do. She suggested if I want I could use their bug spray. I explained to her that my wife was already upset about the situation and she said that she can’t move us to a new room. My wife called down there and explain to her what was happening and she again told her that there is nothing they can do. She said she offered me the spray and I didn’t want it my wife then told her that we do not work for the hotel and it’s not our job to take care of the situation. She said very rudely “As I said there’s not anything we can do, we don’t have 24 hour maintenance and I don’t have another room to move you to! 20 minutes later she called and said she could move us to a different room on the third floor a room that was actually supposed to be for another guest that was checking in late. The behavior of that clerk is what was unacceptable and the conditions of that room knowing that there were bugs in there and still renting it to people is unacceptable.

I’ve never felt better about writing a review. My travel partner and I had an extended stay at Candelwood Suites in Galveston and it surpassed out expectations. The facility was well kept, it was very clean, and the staff were excellent!!! There were plenty of small kitchen appliances we could used, which saved us $$$. The gym and laundry area were always clean and available 24hrs. I cannot say enough about the general manager Ali, he was AMAZING!!!! If ever there was a request or minor issue he took care of it in a very timely manner. Traveling as single female we felt VERY safe there. The staff is extremely honest as well, my CC was returned to me when I accidentally dropped it somewhere on the property. My stay there was beyond pleasant, I felt safe and there isn’t anything negative I can say. I hope the staff keep up the good work they are doing there. If ever I’m in Galveston again I will be staying there. It’s the BEST value on the island.

My husband and hadn’t been to the Coast since March, so we went to Galveston for three days.
I had a voucher for 1 night at an IHG hotel that we got last year, so I selected Candlewood.
I thought it was on the Seawall, but that wasn’t a big deal. The location is actually pretty convenient and Galveston isn’t really very big anyway!
The manager, Ali, was super nice and actually upgraded the room that I had booked.
We really enjoy having a kitchen so we don’t have to eat every meal out.
Our room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable.
I really prefer a king bed, but the queen bed was acceptable especially with the couch in the living room. I had booked the studio with two queens, but I’m really glad we changed!
There was lot of closet space and the rooms we both large.
There was nice space in the bathroom for toiletries and make-up.

Perfect Location for anywhere for Galveston. Very clean and comfortable room. Quick check in & out, attentive front desk staff. Clean, quiet, exceptional customer service. Great location. As a light sleeper, I was amazed how great a sleep I had at this hotel. Would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Galveston for one night or multiple nights, very reasonable priced.

Moldy lampshade, toilet seat with several wood spots showing through, broken tile in bathroom, foggy windows that don't stay open, BUT lovely kitchenette and well appointed room convenient to everything. Walls pretty thing, at one point I wondered if our neighbors were IN our room. $75 for a dog is definitely on the high end, but the manager nicely lowered the price I paid because rates came way down after I booked and the hotel wasn't too busy. Didn't miss breakfast at all.

In over 20 and hundreds of nights with IHG owned hotels I have never been treated so poorly at a hotel. We got in at 130am and requested a late checkout due to our late arrival and it being a perk to my membership. The desk clerk said that he would give us until 3pm which we were more than good with. At 1130 am the general manager called the room while I was downstairs smoking and demanded to my friend that we leave because checkout was at 11am. My friend tried to explain what we had been told but was called a liar and told that we had 15 minutes to leave before he called the cops. Once notified of the situation I contacted the general manager at the front desk and tried to explain the situation at which point I was called a liar. I told him that I didn’t want any trouble and that we would leave and I would settle it at the corporate level at which point he told me that I had trouble because he had called the cops. Before we could leave we had 3 cops at the room to escort us out without the opportunity to shower or brush our teeth. I will admit that I became fairly belligerent once the cops arrived due to being outraged over the treatment of a loyal customer. IHG needs to pull their contract with this location immediately!!!

As individuals and professionals in the hospitality sector, it is our responsibility to maintain composure and address all situations with professionalism. However, if you or your companion resort to using offensive language towards me or my team, and we feel threatened, our ability to continue providing assistance ends there. I have not accused you of dishonesty, but your review has prompted me to reconsider my perspective. For the sake of fairness, why not include in your review how your companion spoke to me and my staff when we called your room while you were outside smoking? Do you believe that those reading this lack discernment, unable to recognize that this isn't a direct attack from the team toward you? The entire team here is prepared to engage in conflict without cause? Indeed, there is a reaction for every action, and that's precisely what occurred here. When someone resorts to foul language directed at us, we cease communication and seek assistance from the appropriate legal and authoritative channels. Our standards are high, and we refrain from descending to such levels of verbal abuse, especially when there's no valid argument left. Attempt to present the true narrative so that those who read your account can at least believe some aspects of it. Every day, we come across individuals like yourself who are untruthful, attempting to lower us to their level. However, we are professionals, and we uphold our hospitality skills with pride, standing tall amidst such challenges.

This is my favorite place to stay!!It is so clean and the staff treats you like family.we have been going there from DFW about 3 times a year. You get a kitchenette room with great full sz use of Dove products. Hot free coffee downstairs with a little store in case you want to fix a snack in your room. Its on the historical Stand side of the island with wonderful shops nice restaurants and quiet strolling down the old cobblestone lanes. So perfect for the more mature crowd and Senior citizens! It's not far from the Seawall and fun beaches but when it's time to relax and watch good cable TV..it's nice to leave the crowded loud full streets of Seawall fun.I give it 100 🌟 stars!!
