The Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa and Convention Center is celebrated for its extensive amenities, including a praised pool and family-friendly activities, although some guests feel updates are needed and the costs can be high. While the hotel boasts a tranquil atmosphere with enjoyable activities, opinions on the rooms are divided, with some finding them to be spacious and others calling for renovations. The hotel's cleanliness receives high marks, and the staff's attentive service is often commended. However, concerns are raised about the overall value for money spent.

We came to this hotel for my daughters dance competition. While I was getting my little one ready my older kids went to the little cafe for breakfast. The service was amazing. They let my kids go down and charge to the room so that I could get the other one to dance. We ate in there several more times and every time we did a manager checked on us with a smile! At one point he even offered to get my son (who is 13 and very capable of doing it himself) some more food from the buffet. Anytime we asked for clean towels or sheets they brought them up and then called to make sure we got them. Granted they couldn't change the sheets and stuff for us because of covid, but that extra step to make sure we had everything was super. The pool outside was heated so my kids stayed happy. The hotel was clean all the time and well kept. We definitely would gave no problem staying there again.

While staying with a family member on business, Moody Gardens was chosen to be the venue for their work event. Having stayed at the property 3 other times in the past I was excited to see what Moody Gardens would do this time to exceed expectations. Upon arriving though it had just felt as if they had just let go a little bit, and it did not seem as nice as it was back int 2018, when I stayed last. When we arrived we were checked in by Reece, who gave a warm welcome to the hotel and gave us some information. We were put in the North tower, at first it was a long walk from the main elevators, but we found out that there was a dedicated set of elevators that were easier to access, so we just used those, though only one was working throughout the stay which was a little annoying especially at peak times. Upon entering the room the theme of seeming like it had deteriorated unfortunately continued. In the room (763) there was mold on the ceiling of the closet, the furniture was a little scuffed up, and one of the beds also had stains on the top cover, and although I suspect these were permanent given everything smelled fresh, it was not the best look. Otherwise, there was not a spec of dirt to be found, and the room was clean. There were a few improvements I did appreciate though, I liked the K Cup machine in the room, the beds felt great, and I really enjoyed the advanced TV system, the new smart room keys were nice too. I also like how they still have the tiny shampoo bottles in the room too as I personally dislike the big dispensers over fears of tempering, and I was very glad to see their absence. I will say the shower head in the bathroom did seem to lack pressure, but it seems this is by design given it is one of those newer water saver ones, but the temperature was spot on. The service that I received from Jessy at Cafe in the Park was also amazing too, he remembered our names and orders, and gave some of the best service I’ve received in a while, the food was also far above expectation for a hotel restaurant too. Edwardo at Moody Brews was great too. The housekeeping team here also does a great job with cleaning and every room attendant I encountered was friendly and said hello every time, which which a small thing, I really liked how even the housekeepers made my family member and I feel welcomed. In the end, while we did leave a little disappointed, I would still be more than happy to give Moody Gardens another chance to show this was indeed a fluke and not the normal experience.

Unfortunatly, we had a couple of issues during our stay 23-26 March 2021. Our room smelled of smoke and there was a dirty tissue on the bathroom floor. I spoke to a lady at the front desk immediatly and she assured me that it will be taken care off. After returning to our room after a couple of hours we noticed that the smell was still as strong as before and the tissue was still there. I called the front desk and again was told someone will be there soon. Somebody did come and she sprayed the carpet and removed the tissue. I have to say this is unacceptable, especially when we dont have daily room cleaning. She told me that this wil be noted in the system. The next day I checked to make sure it was in the system with Mehmet. He told me that there was nothing noted. He recorded everything while I was there. The lobby bar hasn't had a happy hour in over a year! Needles to say a glass of wine and a vodka soda was $20! They can have a breakfast buffet for $20 a person, but not a happy hour. The Garden restaurant was not open for dinner and the restaurant on the 9th fl is only open on the weekends. When we checked out Mehmet was on duty. I have nothing but great things to say about this youg men. He is friendly, understanding and professional!

My friend and I went on a cruise and rented the handicap room We also paid for the cruise package, parking the car and the shuttle dropping us off and picking us up. The room doesn't have all of the handicap features, like the toliet and the room is a long way from the elevator for a handicap person The worst part was calling for a shuttle to pick us up when the cruise ship docked. Called the hotel since no shuttle was there, I was told they might be there in 1 1/2 hours. We finally got a cab to take us to the hotel. I was told by valet they weren't going to pick us up they were too busy. I sent an e-mail to Leon Garrison, General Manager, still haven't got a reply. I called and the front desk gave my roommate and I a twenty four dollar refund each. Never again will I stay here. Very disappointed

I was there for four nights and it was super frustrating and very poor customer service. I had to move rooms twice during my stay due to old AC units that were broken or so dirty that when the maintenance person came to fix one there was so much dirt and dust that it was all over the wall and curtain and fell into our suitcases.
No one answered the phone at the front desk which is the only way to get towels or your trash picked up. never pools towels available. After the second move and was told we were getting an upgrade the room was identicle to the room we were previously in. and then at 10:00pm the night before we were leaving at 8:00am the next morning they said if I wanted to come down to the desk they Ould give me a key to a parlor that was connected to my room. Thanks for nothing. I was given two night off my stay before I left and was told to contact Yin on Tuesday morning to have her remove a third day. Our agreement was to pay one night as a compensation. I was on the phone everyday calling Yin and finally spoke with her on Thursday. She at that time refunded the third night.
Here is the worst part over a month later I was charged that night back on my card without any communication or authorization. They claim it was the organization I was there with said they were suppose pay one of my night and didn't. ALL LIES!!!
Now no one will call back and some how there is no record of my issues and refunds. HMMMM
Several people have been charged over a month later as well..
Stay in a newer hotel on the seawall it will be worth it and less expensive. Staying there is not worth the money and the attractions are stupid expensive even if you stay there.

This was my first time staying at this hotel. I am not sure how it’s a AAA Diamond. Overall, the hotel is in need of a deep clean and basic maintenance. I’ll start with the $509/night room and then the property. The room had an electrical hazard in a malfunctioning bathroom light switch which sparked when touched. It took more than an hour for hotel maintenance to come and replace it, then they took over an hour to replace it when they came (it didn’t matter to me the new switch was a different color). They didn’t change it while we’re out of the room like they said they offered —frustrating. Light over tub flickered after light switch was replaced. Housekeeping did not return to clean up the dirt from the shoes of the maintenance men that was tracked onto the bathroom floor and tub because the tub floor was wet and they stood on one of the upholstered chairs they placed in the tub to stand on while they worked on the light above the tub. The sink faucet handles leaked a lot of water when they were on which made a big mess on the counter and the floor. The shower dripped the entire time. The tub stopper was corroded as was the bathroom door stopper. Shower curtain was dirty. There is no chair at the desk area in the room. The coffee maker in the room did not work —made multiple attempts and it just barely dropped a few drops and would stop (yes, I’ve used one before). The clothing iron did not really get hot. The public restrooms in the common area needed more frequent attention. The chairs in the main restaurant were absolutely filthy —can only imagine what the kitchen looked like. Dining services leave a lot to be desired in terms of quality and attention to detail. The access to the hotel pool that is included in the hotel price had access gates that were broken on both sides of the pool bar/concession; this is important to note if you wanted to order without getting in to the pool and cumbersome overall. Two of the main elevators to access hotel rooms had broken buttons. Instead of trying to monetize each and every amenity on the property, they should focus on doing the basics well. We chose to check out after one night and despite the organization we were attending an event with having used this hotel for a few decades (our first visit), I’m not sure I would stay there again if the organization doesn’t move the event. This was a very disappointing stay and experience for the cost.

Hello cmQ8314AD, Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review of our hotel. These comments will be used to help improve both the property and the service you received. As per our email, I have placed this room out of order until it can be thoroughly inspected by both my Chief Engineer as well as our Executive Housekeeper. Many of these concerns should have been found before you arrived to our hotel. I sincerely apologize that they were not and your stay was inconvenienced. I am happy that you were able to speak to a member of our management team and they were able to assist you. We strive for excellence, but on the rare occurrence it is not met, it is important that we make it right. I truly hope that you will give us another opportunity to serve you in the future.

I want to advise anyone that is planning on staying here that this hotel does not return items left in your room. My family stayed here for a recent dance competition and after checking out I quickly realized I left all of my rings (engagement ring, and wedding bands, as well as a James Avery ring) sitting by the bathroom sink. We paid for a late check out and although we were a good two and a half hours down the road when I noticed I didn't have them, I immediately tried to contact the hotel. After numerous attempts calling their phone number listed on their website, someone finally answered the phone and put my on hold for almost 45 minutes, after which they hung up. I had no choice but to call back the next morning and again after numerous attempts to contact anyone, I was again asked to be put on hold. I explained my situation as fast as I possibly could and was then transferred to security. Although security was very friendly, they told me they could not locate my rings. I asked if anyone had been booked in that room and they told me no, so that could only mean one thing someone had taken them off of that counter. My husband had already packed up our belongings before I quickly ran up to help my daughter get all of the hairspray out of her hair, which is what lead me to take off the rings. Some items are irreplaceable and although I take full responsibility for accidentally leaving them behind, it gives me a really sick feeling that such a nice/expensive hotel couldn't seem to locate such an important item. Just a heads up to any future bookings.

Hotel was really busy. Room seemed like it wasn't clean. The shower curtain and tub had hairs. Airvents were filthy. They dont have any sanitizing cleaning supplies even though their website says they do if requested. Not many hotel workers wearing masks, or guests for that matter. Pool was busy with people, that would leave and take hotel towels with them. The pool gate is broken so anyone can get in, and seemed like alot of them weren't hotel guests. Gardens were infested with mosquitos, you can't take a walk without being bit. The crowd seemed like the same crowd at a holiday inn or La Quinta 😁 so might as well save your money and stay at a motel instead of this "resort". The San Luis resort is way better.

Dear sofi611, We are sorry to hear you did not have a pleasant stay here at Moody Gardens. We have been very busy here and wish you would have had a better experience. The mosquitoes are terrible this year and we try to keep them under control with different methods. We do not spray here at Moody Gardens because if you kill one insect, you kill them all including butterfly’s and other non-evasive insects. As for the guests we have, we are a family resort and we tend to have large groups come to enjoy our facilities. We do not allow non-guests to use the pool, but unfortunately, sometimes some of the locals do end up here. Our number one priority is the health and safety of our hotel guests and employees. All of our employees were a mask while in the public spaces without exception. We do not require our guests to wear them unless the feel they would like to. We follow all the mandates of the State of Texas. We have sanitation stations throughout the hotel with sanitizer available. We also have masks available for anyone who would like them. We do everything we can to keep our guests safe and secure. We spray all rooms upon checkout with a sanitizer to make sure we are killing all bacteria. We do not have cleaning chemicals available to guest however. I truly hope you give Moody Gardens another chance in the future. I know you would not be disappointed. Leon Garrison General Manager

We stayed on a Sunday night at Moody Gardens. Staff was friendly and the hotel was practicing social distancing. That being said a couple of things were lacking. For starters, the room was nice but there were a couple of lights that were not working and the closet safe did not work as well. The other issue we had was at one of the restaurants we had to change our order because they did not have what was on the menu. Once we were able to get a meal from the menu they waiter came back two times to tell us they did not have the sides for the orders we already changed. We were not the only ones with issues. Another guy staying at the hotel had said they booked two nights but they canceled one night. We understand with everything going on things are limited but for the price of the Moody Gardens Hotel I just expected better attention to detail.
