The Decatur Courthouse Suites is a clean, quiet and comfortable place to stay. The new owners, Beth and Carey, are so sweet and are the best cooks around. Everything was perfect! It's cozy and clean, the fridge was stocked and the wifi worked great. They also own the Main Street Cafe just down the street and I would HIGHLY recommend it, also.

It amazes me when business owners just give up on their business but decline to close it and walk away. This is what should happen here. To make a long story short, I walked out because the place was filthy. Every surface had dust and grime on it, there was a chewed toothpick on a table, used soap in the shower, peeling wallpaper everywhere and, when the owner contacted me five days later about my leaving, she became insolent. I can stand old and worn but I can't deal with dirty. The current owner says new ownership is taking over soon. It couldn't be too soon and hopefully they'll make improvements.

We booked one of the Abbercromby's elopement packages and ran off for the weekend to Decatur. We loved the location--right on the square, within walking distance to tons of shops and restaraunts. When we first got there, the proprietors were not there to check us in, but they told us where to find a key and let ourselves in. We loved the room, which was the Summersby Suite. The decor was old but in a fun, different way. The sitting parlor was large and spacious. The bedroom had a massive bed, along with a little TV and DVD player. There was a little kitchenette off the bedroom, and then the bath with the double jacuzzi tub. We knew there would be a jacuzzi tub in the room but we didn't realize that meant there would be no shower. Two days of baths for us. Half the candles were burnt so low we couldn't use them. It looked like maybe the owners hadn't done much to prepare the room for our arrival. As part of our wedding package, we were supposed to get chocolate covered strawberries, which we expected to be there when we got there. Not so--they gave them to us with our wedding cake the next day. The package we purchased also promised Dead Sea Bath Salts for the jacuzzi and the jar was there, albeit empty. This was somewhat disappointing since we were supposed to pay more for these extras. We did not see the proprietors until 12:30 the following day, which was nervewracking because we were supposed to get married at 2pm and it didn't give us much time to rehearse or prepare. The husband and wife that own the place were also the ones performing our wedding. The husband is the minister and the wife plays the harp and is the photographer. We found out an hour before the wedding that the wife wouldn't be there, so no harp music (instrumental CD that skipped when I walked in) and horrible pictures from the husband. Luckily we brought two friends to take photos for us. It would have been a disaster otherwise. During the ceremony the minister pronounced my name wrong several times, the toast was done with sparkling Cherry juice, and our first dance was to a CD of instrumental 80s monster ballads (at least it didn't skip this time). Luckily, we were just so happy to be together and be married that we laughed these things off, but I can imagine that if I had cared more about the ceremony being perfect, I probably would have cried. A lot. The upside was that they gave us a pretty good discount for not fulfilling the promises of the wedding package we'd chosen and messing up the best day of our lives. Overall, we had a great time in Decatur, and the B&B was much more unique than a normal hotel off the highway would have been. We definitely have many good stories from our wedding day and we can thank the Abbercromby for them. I would definitely recommend this establishment to others, but if you're planning on getting married there, beware--prepare for things to go wrong.

Some friends of ours had their wedding there and couldn't stop raving about it. And then when we saw their pictures we knew we had to go. It is located right on the Courthouse square of Decatur which is a must see if you haven't been out that way. A beautiful pink granite castle. Though there isn't a lot to do in the town at night. We stayed in the Summersby suite which was perfect it has a jacuzzi for two and the decorations are timeless, comfortable king sized bed and a sitting room that was decorated elegently with a large birdcage and chase lounge. I am sure I am not doing it justice. One of the things I really liked about this room is that it didn't have any windows, which sounds odd, but it was great, no bright shinning light hitting you in the face in the morning. I would call it an Inn instead of a B&B because when I think of B&Bs I think of meeting the owner which we enjoy sometimes but sometimes you feel awkward if you don't come down to breakfast at a reasonable hour. I really liked not having to worry about if someone thought we went to bed too late or too early or was down for breakfast in the morning. There are also a lot of neat shops around the square to walk around and see, but I wish there were more. It really was just a nice time to focus on eachother without a lot of distractions. We have already reserved another weekend for my birthday to try out the western room which looks like it could be fun.
