The Thompson is impressively decorated, and well fitted for the art district in downtown Dallas. The staff was attentive, helpful and accommodating. The room and view was beautiful, comfortable beds, and great TV options. The mini bar had reasonable prices, I appreciated that when I needed a water late at night. The Monarch restaurant has wonderful food, great atmosphere and the complimentary champagne in the lobby was a welcome surprise!

The lady and myself stayed here for a recent staycation anniversary celebration and couldn't be happier about our choice! We were greeted by friendly front desk staff and offered water immediately, and our bellhop was more than accommodating by personally grabbing us ice for the room after getting us settled in and giving a quick tour of our room (a luxurious king room on the top floor, with an amazing view). A handwritten note and complimentary bottle of red greeted us, and we slept like happy babies in the uber-comfy bed. Furniture and accents were tasteful and modern, bonus points for having an exceptional in-room minibar and handy wine decanter for our red!
We asked about a place to grab a quick coffee before our date night, but after ascertaining that most of the places nearby were closed (thanks covid), they sent up a personal coffee maker! Breakfast room service was prompt and super tasty, and the shower was nothing short of exceptional, paired with their exclusive toiletries. 10/10 would highly recommend to anyone traveling to Dallas for any reason!

When we are young, we think 50 is so old! None of us can imagine who we will be or where we will be. Last year, I started to consider where I wanted to go and how I wanted to celebrate my 50th time around the sun. I had some ideas but nothing solid. Then the pandemic happened and I just stopped thinking about any future plans to celebrate. Then two great friends of mine made it their mission to plan something to celebrate my birthday in a fun way while still being safe and responsible. We decided on a staycation at the Thompson Dallas. A small group of us booked a block of rooms and stayed the weekend. From the moment we arrived, through the check-in process, treatments at the spa and salon, brunch at Nine, dinner at Catbird, our cake and champagne in our suite, to our departure, we felt safe and taken care of. All of us made comments that we felt like we were in New York or Las Vegas or someplace in Los Angeles. The hotel has only been open since November 2020 but they continue to build, adding two new restaurants that will open in the coming weeks! My friends and I have already made plans to enjoy both restaurants as soon as they open. The staff always wore masks, there were hand sanitizer stations at each elevator bank, the staff were courteous and friendly, and each room came with a packet containing extra masks and antibacterial wipes. The hotel itself is gorgeous! I spent a lot of time at the entrance and lobby taking photos of all of the floral arrangements. And the room was large and comfortable. Very modern and posh. 10 of my friends stayed at the hotel and all of them loved the property and plan to return again. The only regret I have is that I wished my birthday celebration could happen again and this time in one of their magnificent Penthouse Suites. I had the opportunity to see them but they are still putting the finishing touches on them now. They are roomy and full of nice artistic touches and all of the conveniences of a brand, new hotel. Ideal for a Valentine's Weekend/President's Day Long Weekend celebration. Having celebrated my 50th birthday at Thompson Dallas, I can't imagine wanting to spend it anywhere else, pandemic or not. This was the best place for me to spend time with my closest friends and my birthday weekend was absolutely perfect. Thank you to the Thompson Dallas staff for giving me the best birthday memory of my lifetime...so far.

We stayed for two nights over a weekend (Friday/Saturday) at the Thompson in downtown Dallas. We had a corner king room on the 20th floor. The room was nice with décor reminiscent of a loft apartment mostly. The room included a well stocked mini bar, including several bottles of mostly premium liquor options in bottles that were larger than one normally finds (think 375ml bottles, rather than airplane sized), and a drawer fridge with wine, soft drinks, water, and beer.

Service at the hotel was a definite highlight. If you needed something, a quick call to the front desk and it usually appeared in just a few minutes (ice, being a prime example).

Things we didn't love that are reducing our rating: The room service menu was extremely limited. If you wanted something after about 9pm, the entrée options were cold soba noodles or a turkey sandwich. Literally, just the two items. We found this to be frankly unacceptable. Maybe once the pandemic has settled down they will change things, but we have stayed at too many hotels lately that are using the pandemic as an excuse to reduce their service levels (not cleaning rooms daily, not offering room service, etc.) The Thompson did clean our room while we were there, but didn't leave replacement towels, so we had to call down for some.

The noise from the street is exceptionally loud. This may be less of an issue during the week, but there was noise from loud cars and motorcycles late into the night/morning. We stayed up late into the night with friends and still found it bothersome when we finally decided to call it a night and the noise in the morning was still enough to be bothersome. The building redevelopers should really have considered double glazing or additional sound proofing.

This criticism is very subjective, but we found the hotel had entirely too much aroma/perfume throughout rooms and the lobby. Friends we were visiting with enjoyed the scent, but we found it overpowering and it seemed to linger on our clothes and in our noses even after we left the property.

Lastly, our room had what was billed as a rainfall shower, but the shower had no door and water tended to get all over the floor in the bathroom. Simultaneously, the water wasn't quite warm enough.

Other things that might have improved our experience - it was spring time, but a cold weekend, so we only walked by the pool area on the 9th floor. It looked nice and we would have enjoyed spending time there on a warmer day or in the summer time.

The hotel does have a great location and lots of dining options, even inside the building, but for now, plan on making reservations in advance. Catbird had great décor but just okay food. It is really more of a trendy bar than a restaurant. The Nine had pretty good breakfast options, but the service was terrible. We did not get a chance to try Monarch (which I believe is separate from the hotel), and we weren't tempted by the ridiculous room service options.

We normally enjoy Hyatt properties, but probably won't be staying at a Thompson property again any time soon, at least in Dallas.

We paid $550 a night, and our room was average size. There was only one chair in the room. The other choice was to sit on the bed. The towels were ordinary, as were the linens on the bed. You have to request housekeeping, which we did. Housekeeping didn’t show up until after 4 o’clock on the second day. We also had a smell in our room when we returned on our second day. The housekeeper didn’t smell it, but the young man who brought us extra towels, that housekeeping did not leave with us. Noticed the smell also and reported it to the front desk. Maintenance came up with vinegar to pour down the drain. The kind gentleman from maintenance also brought us a second chair, which we needed when we had room service, which was delivered quickly and was very good. Check in and check out went smoothly. The staff was all very nice. This hotel is in busy. Busy downtown Dallas. So it’s loud late into the night. I would have preferred a larger room and a little more luxury’s for over $1000 weekend at this Hyatt property.

Reservation making was easy enough. Checking in was easy enough, however my guest and I had several bags and hanging items that we stood for several minutes holding while they got a bell cart. It never came so We proceeded to check in. Very pleasant desk clerk. Beautiful entry way appropriately decorated for VDAY. We got to our room and it was set at 60 degrees! Keep in mind, it is single digit temps outside. We called down and asked for a room change, and they said all the rooms have motion activated thermostats. This is not only ridiculous but also shame on them for thinking we are so stupid to believe that they couldn't hold the temp of the room at 68-70. It took over 30 minutes to get the room comfortable. The room itself was beautiful. Tons of amenities. The one thing about this hotel, was I heard "no" way more times than I would expect for a high end hotel. Tried to order a coffee at 7:00P before dinner, and was flat out told "we stop serving coffee at 3:00 PM". Asked if they could send up a carafe of drip from the restaurant, and they just flat out said "No, we don't do that". Ok. Not what I expect from a luxury hotel.

Everything else was fine. The hotel employees, lobby employees were very forgettable and not overly friendly or exhibited great hospitality. Definitely can get more bang for you buck down the street if you are willing to spend this kind of money.

We were looking forward to indulging in the pool side service and pool bar. However, as made obvious by staff, they are understaffed and unable to open their outdoor dining/poolside service. Furthermore, restaurant hours were limited. Hotel was very clean but we seemed to be the only ones staying on our floor and did not see housekeeping once over our 3night stay. I did spend a morning at the spa and that was excellent! this experience almost made up for the lack of other advertised services. This hotel has a potential for extreme luxury but as it operates right now it is not worth the 350$/night.

It's a nice hotel but customer service has a lot to be desired. It is not good enough for the level the Thompson wants to be at. I repeatedly asked for an itemized bill for room service from the kitchen, front desk, manager, everyone and they promised to get it to me, even took my name, email and number and yet they failed to give me such a simple request. It's very disappointing and unbecoming for what they aspire to be. Lower your expectations.

I stayed here last week, Weds thru Saturday. In summary, the Hotel and everything on the property is fabulous. My room was stylish yet comfortable - very tastefully decorated and everything was maintained to a very high standard. The bars on the 4th and 9th floors were great with the Cat Bird Bar most definitely worth a visit. And then there's the artwork and photography arround the property which, if I could afford $35k for a print would happily find a place on the walls of my own den. .
.
The only critical observation that could be made is that the hotel is quite expensive compared to some other hotel options nearby. All i would say is that the difference in "value" was clear from other stays I've had elsewhere and made for a more relaxing experience - I didnt want to leave my room!

The whole experience felt exclusinve and I will definitely be staying here again on my next trip to Dallas

Are cabanas or lounge chairs available to rent?
Answer from Derrick B

Yes. There are only a few lounge chairs right next to the pool, but plenty along the other side. You can order drinks while in the pool. There are around 4 cabanas for rent, too, right next to the pool. I was lucky to get a chair by the pool, so I didn't bother with the cabana, but there were a couple groups of locals that looked like they rented them regularly; so, I would reserve ahead of time.
