We had an amazing experience staying here for 2 nights! The owners are so welcoming, felt like we were part of the family. They offer both traditional and modern rooms (we picked the traditional room) and the food was delicious! The grounds are beautiful, with the welcoming gate, wooden houses, animals, outdoor seating and wooden swing, garden, etc. Highly recommend!

Three of us coming far far away from Malaysia and we were treated like family members - by Maria and her family. We had 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners over here during our stay and were so satisfied with the delicious home cooked food - free flow of wine (home made again) - Maria is so nice and hospitable even she cannot communicate fluently in English but she tried all her means to make us understand and it worked perfectly. The photos sum up well what we ate and we will definitely miss it.

This is a great place to stay in Breb, one of the most traditional villages from Maramures. The owners, Vasile and Maria, are very friendly and ready to make you feel like home !Their Pension has two buildings - an Old Wooden House and a more modern one. The Old House has 4 bedrooms decorated in a traditional stay. All rooms have the modern facilities you need and are very clean. You can also eat at their place and the food is delicious. The Pension has a large garden where kids can play or where you can spend a nice time. They also have bycicles to rent. The location is very good for exploring Maramures ! Highly recommended !

We were on a company teambuilding at Pensiunea Maramu'. Location: away from the bustle and bustle of main road, Bred is a piece of heaven.A silent little village among the hills, which guarantees a relaxing stay. Accommodation: we stayed in the "old house" - a traditionally decorated and furnished house, its only drawback being the thin walls which, I imagine, can become quite annyoing when there is full house as one can literally hear every word from the rooms next and below.I believe the main guesthouse would be a better option for your stay. Food & drinks: a great variety of tasty local food and drinks (including the traditional "horinca" and "afanata" - a must-try when you are in Maramures) Hosts: friendly and always ready to give you info & share stories about the area during meals, always helpful whaterver you needed.

We visited the town of Bleb on our tour of Romania and ate lunch at Maramu. It was a wonderful meal sitting out on the side porch. The meatball/potato soup and homemade bread was delicious and of course homemade. The lunch was a pork cutlet with a cabbage slaw and rice. Had Romanian donuts for dessert covered in powdered sugar. YUM!! A delicious treat! Thanks for your families' friendly hospitality.

Pensiunea Maramu was one of the most, if not the most, idyllic place I stayed in nearly 3 months of traveling throughout Europe. It is a beautiful homestead, set in the beautiful town of Breb, in Maramures, Romania. There is nearby hiking and plenty of scenery worth strolling around and through. The area is surrounded by rolling hills and fields, and workers pitching extraordinarily-shaped haystacks with wood-carved pitchforks. The family the runs this pensuinea could not be nicer; however, they do not speak English, but are more than willing to bridge communication gaps by whatever means possible--and it's almost always possible. I believe they can communicate in Italian and possibly Spanish (Latin languages, akin to Romanian, more so than English at least). Meals are available with the a price very reasonable, especially if visiting with USD or Euros or other western currencies. The meals were beyond filling and extraordinarily yummy! I don't think I ever completely finished my dinner, wish came out in three courses (including dessert). If you drink alcohol, the tables, which are often available on the covered front porch of the main house, are usually pre-set with a wine or related drink and palinca, which I believe is a clear brandy. I asked for milk and it was provided, although it came warm, almost hot, and was quite creamy, even compared to whole milk in the U.S., so I'm not sure if this was farm-fresh or not (you may want to ask if it's pasteurized if you ask for milk). I had no issues from it though. I stayed in one of the two "traditional" rooms, in the smaller house, across from the main house, where the owners live. I saw this room online, long before visiting Breb, and hoped it would be available when I arrived, and it was. A beautiful room with two beds--one more comfortable than the other--with gorgeous, colorful tapestries/blankets rolled and hung by the wall. The only downside to my room was that, upon arrival and while there, the owners let the front door of the building I was in stay open and some flies got in my room, and they were very challenging to get rid of. The ceiling was also quite "traditional" in that it wasn't insulated, and I could hear a bit too much of my upstairs neighbors in the late hours (if you know what I mean!). I only stayed 2 or 3 nights, but this was one of the only places where I wish I had stayed longer. I was able to visit the Merry (or Happy) Cemetery while there, which was modest drive to the north. Breb is definitely more convenient to reach by car, I think, than by public transport, as Romania doesn't have quite the transit system yet that many western European countries have. This is definitely a good, inexpensive base to stay, eat, drink (if you like), relax, hike, and/or tour the beautiful, Maramures region!
