This campground served our purpose which was to be close to the things we wanted to see and to avoid the congestion of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. We did have a site on the river which we enjoyed in the evenings when we came back...More
Toured area this time and viewed other campgrounds. This KOA is a great location and very lovingly taken care of by the staff. Easy access to Cade's Cove. Take Wears road and end up at light 3 in Pigeon Forge in 25 minutes. Beth made...More
So many great things about this location - but just say no anyway! Two big negatives outweigh all the positives:
1. Lady in the office is a Witch. Ask a question: get yelled at. Try to park to use the Dump: get yelled at. Even...More
This was our first trip to this KOA since we got our camper. We have been looking forward to this trip for months. The day we checked in, it all went very easy. We were lead to a site on the river and helped to...More
We stayed at the Townsend KOA campgrounds (most magical trip we've had in years, spring for the deluxe unit its worth it) in part because we wanted to do the tubing the KOA advertises. Being the cautious mom I am, I called and asked who...More

As many said - call. But, FYI, the RV sites are ridiculously small, so even if they did allow, you might not want to! The best sites are actually the tent sites by the river. We didn't have a reservation the first night, but they let us put our truck camper into tent site 124. It was heaven, although no hookups. The second night we moved to another site with hookups, and really wished we had not. If you must have a full hook up site - try for 77-84, or 121. Those are the RV sites on the river. Also, depending on what you drive, be careful. Turning in off the highway you immediately get into a traffic jam. The office, a decorative plant area, the pool, the dumpsite, the parking for towed vehicles, are all within the first 50 feet of the entrance. And there are a couple of really hard turns, and a "one way" segment of the KOA road there that also complicate things for longer rigs.
