Our cycle group stayed here en route from Mansfield to Mernda. Rooms are dated and basic, but clean, comfortable and quiet. Conveniently located right in the centre of town for dining and shopping options.

There wasn't much about the Tartan Motel that spoke of the Scottish tartan, however, the motel is well placed to provide very easy access to the town of Yea; it is in the main street! It also provided a clean comfortable resting place. We stayed while en route to Melbourne, and Yea is a favoured stopover spot for us. It is a delightful little town with an interesting history.

Specifically, on this occasion we were keen to bicycle the Yea to Molesworth Rail Trail which we did. Besides being a very pleasant ride through lovely country-side it takes you through the 100 year old Cheviot Tunnel, a beautifully made brick tunnel 9 kms from Yea on the Rail Trail.

We're happy to recommend the Tartan motel as a comfortable and convenient average accommodation. The service was friendly.

This was a tired and dated motel. The room was small and rather dark, and unlike many of the motels we stayed at on our Australia trip, it seemed rather impersonal. There was no guest laundry or free wi fi. Their literature says they do cooked breakfast but their was no sign of it. It was however very convenient for the wetlands walk, which is the main reason for visiting Yea. I wouldn't choose to stay there again.

I tried and tried to call reception 3 or 4 times I self booked and got room9 it was dirty there was still cobwebs in the room. The smoke alarms had been disconnected it says breakfast to your room but there is no one here to take the order and nothing in the room either.

The lighting is very poor. On the whole the worse $115.00 dollars for a night I have ever spent infact if I knew what I know now I would have slept in the car.

The only good thing of the stay was we found a great pub for a feed which was only a walk away.

It is my opinion that please save your money and find another place to stay yea is a beautiful town just this motel lacks the love

We found an empty condom wrapper and a suspicious type of used tissue in plain view in the room. This level of cleanliness is not acceptable in todays current Covid environment. Informed reception who stated they would advise management..

Great little motel in the heart of yea. Very clean rooms and large in size to be able to have portcot and bike in room. Staff have great knowledge of town and help with place to eat.
Serve hot breakfast to your room and was so good.. yum :)
We will be returning to this motel again for sure

I was looking for last minute accommodation in town as I was attending a nearby function. It was the only room I could find and hesitantly booked the room based on the average reviews. Well I was rather surprised! At check in I was met by Isabella who made me feel most welcome.
I went to the room and was surprised to find a neat, clean and well presented room. My room had a queen and a single. Decor is very much older style but clean tidy and functional. I loved the long bench down the side of the room. There were also three chairs. Small brand new fridge, wall heater and older style wall Airconditioner. Although it was cool outside the temperature in room was thus that I did not need to use heating or cooling. Smallish remote control television did the job, just!
Bathroom is tight but functional. Basin was new, clean toilet with a modular shower recess. Again tight but did the job. Unfortunately there was a shower curtain (god I hate them) but I guess it did the job. Bathroom was very clean, but exhaust fan and light fitting needed a good clean.
The clothes cupboards are very old fashioned but ok and contained extra pillows and blankets. All were spotlessly clean. There is a cupboard (see photo) with tea and coffee, milk, hair dryer, toaster, jug etc etc. all good. Plenty of lighting all very adequate. That night I found the bed extremely comfortable, I didn't want to get up. Pillows were flat so I had to double them up and then it was perfect. A great nights sleep was had and so very quiet. I did not hear any road noise or people considering it is right in the Main Street.
Cooked breakfast in the morning was excellent no complaints.
Overall I have to say I was surprised. Yes it's older style but clean and very comfortable. Could do with a microwave I thought. Good value for money also. My suggestion surprise yourself and give it a go, I miss the mattress so much already!
I liked how you could walk across the road for shopping, bakeries and coffee shops. Very handy! I will definitely be staying again. If they clean the bathroom light and fan and replace the television with something larger and install a microwave it will be right up there. Older style means larger rooms than the newer motels.

Great friendly service however the bed was awful, I actually considered getting up and sleeping in my car. The room was pretty outdated. I wouldn't stay here again based on the awful mattress. Again great friendly people though. Room was warm and blankets were nice.

This place was exactly what we needed after a very long bike ride. The owner was lovely and welcoming when we arrived: suggesting a place for dinner and calling up to make a reservation for us. The room was clean and warm. It has a very effective heater, electric blankets, and a very good shower. Its across the road from the best restaurant in town, next to a laundromat, and a few steps from cafes, bakeries, and a Foodworks. All in all, exactly what we needed.
