Detailed Reviews
With 2 balcony rooms booked for an Easter stay, the staff were extremely friendly and hospitable right from our arrival, and throughout our stay, and made our Easter stay extremely enjoyable. Granted the weather was superb, so breakfasts on the balcony each morning and a few coldies in the evening watching the sun set was idyllic.
Meals were of very generous proportions, well presented, and yes, much better than "a country pub meal". 2 of our group of 4 are vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and don't eat this or that (bloody fussy and overboard I reckon!) but the staff and chef looked after everyone's requirements with some great alternatives.
Thoroughly recommended for accomodation, meals, hospitality and atmosphere.

We stayed in a Beautifully decorated room with a generous double shower . Dindy natural bathroom goodies . Room number 2 had a large balcony with comfy chairs outside it . The food in the restaurant was top quality . If cycling the Victorian rail trail as a couple I would highly recommend staying here .

My partner and I stayed at the Yea Peppercorn Hotel whilst cycling the Great Victorian Rail Trail. It is a beautiful old pub, the rooms are lovely and clean. Huge towels and plenty of supplies including fine soaps & a bonus breakfast. We enjoyed beers in the garden under the trees and ate dinner that night in the restaurant. The food was 10/10. The staff are very friendly and helpful, good to see the restaurant full of locals. The Peppercorn is well situated near the rail trail and not that far from the Main Street. Bring a bike lock as bike storage is outside. All in all a fantastic place to stay, we’ll definitely be back!

Pictures on website very deceptive, rear "garden" area very unkempt with old kitchen sink units and other removed items strewn around. Rear entry steps overgrown with vines. Building generally very worn and tired, then entered our room which was also very tired and worn with obvious water damage in a section of trim and wall at ceiling to wall join, only 1 shower head fitted in double shower (which was probably removed to stop water from nearest shower flooding floor from shower door which would not shut properly), shower base unit also had a major break/crack across center simply roughly filled with clear silicon, bathroom light was so dim that door had to be left open to let light in, vanity riser and mixer tap so poorly fitted that it simply flopped around and had pieces of timber jammed between vanity top and riser flange to stop it falling over entirely, and there were numerous power cords and power boards not in use and hanging down walls from power points. Room cleanliness also left a lot to be desired. To staffs credit when we naturally complained they arranged a $50 discount on the $150 room cost, which whilst greatly appreciated does not address the many issues which should have been fixed obviously a long time ago. We cannot comment on the food as after the state of the room we had very little faith in the restaurant.

One night stay. The web site states the room we booked had a balcony. We naturally assumed from the photos it opened onto the second level balcony. No...a walk across the hall to shared front balcony. Which was ok, but not what i was expecting . The room was large , eclectic and comfortable. Art Deco style, which we like. Its a grand old hotel, high ceilings and I imagine a lot to maintain. The exposed wooden floors in the room were gorgeous. Granted the room was a little odd shape, but that wasn't a concern. The hotel is old, its a little faded in places, but that adds the charm we felt. The double shower in the bathroom floor had a rather large crack, but ive stayed in far less desirable spaces. There are some narrow stairs to your room so if you have mobility issues this may not be suitable. But I think they have a ground floor space . The balcony was great, but the furniture needed replacing . A little old and tattered. Mini Bar, coffee and tea. There is "breakfast station" in the corridor with cereal, bread milk tea coffee and some condiments. For the very reasonable price for the accommodation I thought it was great. The thing that let us down was the restaurant. It looks beautiful, the decor the antique tables, the gorgeous wood the lighting..it just looks fabulous. Then we got our order. i chose the parma, as everything else was pretty pricey, $36-$45 for a main . It was sooo salty , it was not edible. My partner chose different main, same result a salt bath. The atmosphere was lovely the staff were fine. But I have to be honest and say the dinner was really disappointing. Which was a shame as the space was gorgeous. There is a quaint outdoor beer garden space as well. Limited off street parking, but plenty on the street .

Save your money. Was great until it recently changed owner. Has gone down hill very fast. Food was poor, one of my Oysters was replaced with a Muscle for my entree. Waiters and bar staff were unhappy and the general upkeep of the restaurant was below satisfactory.
Not worth your money or time.

Wow don’t know where to start! So disappointed. Nothing like photos on website!! We had the garden room and I thought we were at the wrong place! The garden was overgrown and dirty and strewn with discarded furniture. Then our room was the oldest looking cheap doona cover and a dirty valance…not one thing like the photos! Went looking for a little packet shower cap and nothing not even a cake of soap!
Had a dinner booking for 8pm on the Saturday night and when we arrived were told the kitchen closed at 7:30pm. As it turns out the food and menu are not what is on website either and is now an Indian restaurant apparently.
After reading the reviews on web page I was so excited to be finally visiting the Peppercorn and it’s all untrue what they are advertising.
I have no words for the disappointment of this whole experience.

Beds were comfortable however shower dripped all night.
Breakfast cereal containers were not replenished and filled.
The cobwebs could do with a sweep off the ceilings in the Unit and outside off all the windows and doors.
As an ex employee of this business a little disappointed with new owners and their cleanliness???

Very nicely decorated room, paintings etc large with very cosy lounges, big comfortable bed. Large bathroom. Double shower. Nice touches with good quality bathroom products, large towels. All very nicely done. Short walk to town centre.
Continental breakfast provided but you had to get it from a communal landing area. We seemed to be there alone so it was ok.
There is a bar/lounge/restaurant downstairs but not open Monday/Tuesday. It looked really nice, decorated in olde world style so disappointed we couldn’t try it. The local pizza place however was excellent!
Some wine, beer/ciders, soft drinks available in the room at reasonable prices.
The only slight downside was the narrow staircase to access the upstairs room. Difficult to negotiate with luggage.

What a little gem. We found this hotel by doing a search on Google for the general area and we’re so pleased we found it. We had a very warm welcome and were booked into a delightful, quirky room. We booked in for dinner and again this was superb and the team were delightful too. Although not sold as providing breakfast, we were left with access to milk, cereals and toast. As an added bonus, this traditional building has a first floor veranda where we were able to have a lovely sundowner. Perfect end to our perfect holiday in Australia. Thank you.
