Detailed Reviews
Room was small but super comfy bed with clean sheets and towels with tv (room 3). There are two shared showers and three toilets with one of the toilets in the room with shower (there are four rooms to share these)It was a very quiet room for a Friday night and had heater in room which we had on but didn’t seem to be very efficient. The breakfast room is lovely (just help yourself to cereal and toast) with a great deck which would be lovely in warmer weather. The meals were basic country pub meals with open fire place. While no complaints with room I just don’t think it justified the price we paid for it though.

+1
Place looked run down. Everything was dusty and had cobwebs. Even the upgraded bathroom had such a mouldy and dirty shower that I felt the need to clean it first before using it. Old soap scum and stuff on the shower caddy, dirty, greasy shower base, red and black mould between the tiles. HUGE hole in the toilet seat. We each got one tiny block of soap from the hotel.
Room so small you can’t take your shoes off without scuffing the already scuffed and marked walks. Host wearing a mask but with his nose and half of his mouth open. Was “yeah yeah” about us showing our vax certificates. Zero aircon and with the only window in each of the bedrooms opening on to a hot tin roof the ceiling fan was fighting a lost battle.
The garden was overgrown and nobody used it.
Inspired so little confidence in the sanitation of the place that we ate elsewhere.
Annoyed that Bookings.com acted like this place was in demand “only 3 places left!” When there are only 3 rooms and we were the only people there. Definitely paid too much for this accomodation.

Lovely old style hotel. Clean, comfortable, affordable and all over a great place to stay!
We ate in the restaurant too by the open fire and it was just delightful on a winters day. Can not fault the place and couldn't ask for more!

Used to love this cafe BUT... difficult to order due to the lady running off to get food, and disappearing, before we had finished telling what we wanted.
The result was a missing plate; requested twice when ordering. (Two serves of scones on one plate arrived.) The dollop cream that used to be given had changed to the pressure pack muck. My husband's cappuccino never arrived, even though he asked for it twice.
When I tried to give feedback politely, to a man , hoping it would help the business, he exploded.
This cafe is also using the Grand Central Hotel's QR code, our table was dirty and our scones had been cut open for us (unusual). I hope the lady who took our order and grabbed some of our food, had not cut our scones. She had been putting her hands on her face, near her nose. Aren't we in a pandemic?

Went there for a counter meal lunch. The menu was uninspired and overpriced. The decor was shabby and grubby and the male toilet facility had urine pooled on the floor. Looks and feels like a place on the downward slide. Could be a little gem with better management.

Came here with a group. Four double rooms upstairs. We had the whole upper floor. There is a really large balcony overlooking the Main Street. Two separate bathrooms and two separate toilets. Comfortable rooms. Two with aircon
Comfortable lounge dining area adjoining balcony makes for a relaxing ambience.
All tastefully decorated in accordance with the heritage listing of the property.
Mary the licensee was so welcoming and couldn’t have been more obliging. When she found out that that one in our group was celebrating a significant birthday my friend was presented with a lovely bottle of Tasmanian sparkling wine.
We dined that night and found the friendliness and food to be very good. Their wine list was not extensive ,but the owners clearly know the Victorian wineries and have chosen well.
If visiting this area and looking for accommodation you cannot go wrong here.
For $100 per room including continental breakfast you can’t go wrong.
One does not need to book all four rooms as each room has its own key and lounge and balcony are accessed by all rooms

This may not be a five star hotel, but it is certainly a five star experience. The hosts and staff are all outstanding, nothing was too much bother. The rooms are small, but comfortable. and the shared facilities are good. There are numerous nooks and crannies around the hotel including a beautiful balcony overlooking the street, lounge areas, beer garden, bar, restaurant, bike shed etc. The wine list was short, but expertly selected. All in all, a great stay and excellent value.

On the way back from Buller had a beautiful eye fillet steak in front of the open fire. A magnificent piece of meat, perfectly cooked. What could be better? Nothing pretentious about the pub or the bistro, just great hospitality and great food.
