I brought visitors to the magical Woolrich Retreat, twice in 3 weeks...and we were blown away by the beautiful and clean accommodation, the generous provisions for breakfasts, bubbly, port, fruit, chocolates, and everything else. Thank you Mary and Ches for sharing such a breathtakingly beautiful spot with us. On one of the visits, we had some trouble lighting up the...

Dorothy - thank you for your lovely review. I'm glad the fire worked for you. Now lyrebirds are in abundance in the garden. I hope you saw some when you stayed. We look forward to seeing you again.

We had a wonderful stay in the Garden Retreat. Everything was beautifully kept and the kitchen and breakfast provisions were delicious. Everything you need for a couple of nights away. Lots of thoughtful touches. The gardens were enchanting, and seeing the lyrebirds was an amazing experience. Nicely situated in Olinda - we were able to get there on the train...

We arrived to find our retreat waiting for us. All food supplies & wine supplied for a sumptuous breakfast repast. Fantastic views of the gardens & ranges. We enjoyed our open fire in the evening & soaked our tired bodies in the beautiful spa. We had spent the day walking around & this topped off our day.

Could not fault this accommodation...it had the lot, peaceful surroundings, plentiful provisions we very much appreciated, Jacuzzi, open fire place...all the comforts. Very close to the National Rhododendron Gardens and Cloudhill Gardens and well regarded restaurants Pig and Whistle and The Cukkoo Restaurant.

Every part of our stay at the Woolrich Cottage was absolutely magnificent. Value for money was exceptional. We booked a girls night away and couldn't have asked for a more pleasant stay. Everything was perfect from the fresh loaf of bread right down to the amount of towels we needed, everything was perfect!! We will definitely be back, thank you...

This was our second stay in The Retreat, and it was just as good as we remembered it. The whole atmosphere is of calmness and peace, the only sounds those of birds on and around the outside eating area. This overlooks part of the garden and has distant views of hills, and is well furnished with a large parasol for...

We stayed here the night before and the night of our wedding and just loved it. It had everything we needed and was a great place to relax. Mary dropped in the day we arrived just to show us a few things and the gardens were lovely and the jacuzzi fantastic!

This was our second stay at Woolrich Retreat, and we are already planning our third. It was just as wonderful as we remembered. The cottage is decorated in an art deco style and the most generous and delicious breakfast provisions are provided. As before, we just loved roaming through Rangeview and Cloudehill Gardens. Our kids discovered a fairy's door in...

We enjoyed two perfect days and nights at Woolrich, within easy distance of the six large Hills gardens we visited and walked through. The two-bedroom house is very comfortable and well equipped in all respects, its interiors peaceful, and its garden setting magical. The view from the large deck extends to the Gippsland Hills. We enjoyed all our meals at...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
WELCOME TO WOOLRICH RETREAT In Woolrich's historic five-acre woodlands you will find our two luxury retreats where guests will enjoy the very best bed & breakfast accommodation available in the Dandenong Ranges. Privacy, open fires, spas, ensuites, decks with BBQs overlooking the gardens and free entry to Cloudehill Gardens next door. Walk, laze by the fire, relax in the spa or soak in the view with a glass of wine. The perfect Yarra Valley & Dandenong Ranges getaway. WOOLRICH COTTAGE Built in the 1920s, the cottage's Art Deco features have been retained and restored to create this elegant accommodation. Fine furniture complements the period architectural features such as the Art Deco leadlight windows. The cottage includes two bedrooms with large ensuites, so two couples can enjoy equal luxury as well as an indoor, four person Jacuzzi hot tub under a glass skylight. The lounge room has an open fire, and a bay window with dining table. The kitchen has granite bench tops and a farmhouse sink. French doors open up onto a deck with a BBQ and outdoor furniture for alfresco dining with garden and mountain views. GARDEN RETREAT In French Provence style, the Garden Retreat is perfect for one couple with its king-size bed and double spa (separate shower). Miele appliances in the kitchen, leadlight windows, in the bathroom and bedroom, TV with Foxtel and DVD and a lovely open wood fire in the cosy lounge room makes this an experience to remember. Outside, the balcony, complete with BBQ, and art deco table and chairs sits at the edge of a canopy of trees. Walk down the steps next to your retreat and open the gate to Cloudehill Gardens or go the other way into the Woolrich Woodlands with its meandering paths, lyrebirds, azalea maze and the dell. OLINDA VILLAGE Olinda is one of the major villages of the hills. It is close to the winery district of Yarra Valley and Puffing Billy, a steam train which goes to Emerald. It is the centre of many famous gardens. Just along the road is the National Rhododendron Garden, there are many other national and private gardens which are open to the public. You can go and pick raspberries and strawberries in season, visit the trout farm, or see William Rickett's sanctuary where he created sculptures honouring the aborigines. It is a delight to shop in the villages which is full of all kinds of shops with unusual things for sale. ... more   less
