Detailed Reviews
To start by getting the biggest negatives out of the way, I would not call this a hotel. It doesn't even offer a breakfast following some previous event which caused internal flooding, and apparently from messages on reviews, is taking a very long time to repair.
It is, however, a great place to get a room, at a reasonable rate, with a great location and fantastic view.
Lots of free parking outside, and overlooking the Criccieth harbour, the views of crashing waves are priceless.
We were welcomed here by a solo representative, who was occupying the former dining room working on his model. Very nice chap, who told us all we needed to know and pointed us to the room.
Room, and most of building, appeared quite dated, and in need of a major revamp, but otherwise clean, and room was vary spacious.
Basic tea and coffee making facilities are available in room, with a self service top-up station for those needing more tea, coffee, milk or toilet rolls.
Bed was large and very comfortable, but we did choose to spend both nights with the window open. I have previously been told that recorded wave sounds can be relaxing - I can assure that live wave sounds are also pretty good.
Lack of dining facility can be partly addressed by neighbouring cafe (Swn y Mor) and coffee shop (Blue China) who provide a very presentable breakfast, and partly addressed by nearby pub, Prince of Wales, which has good drink, very good welcome, and great selection of main meals (see separate review).
Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but can't help feeling that the Moelwyn could be so much more without a huge amount of effort or investment, and would be able to better capitalize on its excellent location.

Absolutely outstanding service and food! Excellent Gluten free options, we sat on the terrace with an amazing view of the sea front .
The hostess was so welcoming and friendly and discussed the entire menu with myself who suffers from coeliac disease.
Would recommend coming here for a pot of tea or even an overnight stay!
Nothing seemed too much trouble for them.

I stayed here with my friend in room 3. The hotel is on a corner location with excellent views of the sea. Our room had 2 bay windows and 1 small window. With the windows open you can hear the waves of the sea. The hosts were very welcoming and from the Midlands. There is currently no breakfast being served, however there are a choice of cafes with lovely views that serve food. Which are walking distance. The hotel has a lovely seating area outside with views of the sea. Car parking is free. We would definitely return back to this hotel. There is a kettle in the room and you can stock up with tea, coffee, milk sachets and toilet roll at no extra cost. There is a lovely dinning room downstairs and sitting room. There is an iron and ironing board downstairs. The hosts informed us there is also a fridge downstairs.

Amazing hosts!
After a devastating flood (believed to be caused by a guest) this place has had a complete makeover in the dining room ready for re-opening of the restaurant.
We were allowed to use it for our takeaway tea with amazing views over the bay.
There is a cafe 50 metres away offering breakfast from 8am if you need it.
The rooms were of a great size and whilst needing some modernisation, had everything you need and were very comfortable.
Highly recommended.

A pleasant stay at the Moelwyn. The staff were very friendly and really attentive- I had absolutely no problem here.
My disappointment lied within the hotel itself. The room wasn’t very clean at all, there were lots of little flies on the windowsills and on the bed it’s self. The bed sheets were clean but need replacing as there was pen marks, yellow stains and holes in the bedding- I also found a few hairs in the bed.
There was a very bad musty smell in the room which was very unpleasant when you walked in.
The breakfast was lovely, the chef would cook you anything you would like which I found great! However, the attention to detail lacked in the breakfast as the cutlery, mugs and glasses were all very dirty. I found the hotel felt a little run down and not welcoming in the main downstairs areas.
The hotel was in a beautiful location right on the beach front. Overall I had a pleasant stay at the Moelwyn, however the hotel is lacking that attention to details and the cleanliness is not that great. Thank you to the staff at the Moelwyn you were fab!

Called for a quick lunch on my 1st day in Criccieth and hhad delicious home made soup on a scone. However I saw the most amazing burgers going to the next table so I returned.
2 days later I returned and sat on the outside terrace overlooking the Bay the burger did not disappoint it was so tasty and yiu cooked tell it was homemade.
The ow we came snd chatted to me and eas so friendly and informative of the area.
The restaurant is a credit to this hard working family.

We wanted to stay in this area and the Moelwyn fitted the bill. We got on very well with the staff we met and enjoyed our stay: lovely cooked breakfast, comfortable quiet room and parking nearby. Above all the views are marvellous.
However, it appears to be a work in progress.
1. The carpet in our bedroom was very dirty and urgently needs deep cleaning.
2. The grout in our shower was mouldy in large patches.
3. Some options at breakfast were limited: three varieties of cereal, only strawberry jam. No fruit.
4. Some paint on our bedroom ceiling was pealing off.
I would love to return to see the finished product.

We were greeted with a comfortable bed, great views, a luxurious bath and a sun trap of a deck. Parking is plentiful and close by, as is a good-quality cafe to look after you while the restaurant is restored. Above all, the hosts treat you like an old friend - couldn't ask for better!

The staff gave us a warm welcome and were very helpful. Our top floor room and bathroom were bright, comfortable and clean. The location is in front of the beach with lovely views. There is a free carpark in front and a nice cafe next door for breakfast etc. We were advised in advance that there is currently no restaurant in the hotel. However, we were given the option to use the room and seafront veranda for our own food and drinks. We enjoyed our stay.

The b&b is in a great location next to the sea front, with clean and good sized rooms. The lady we met apon arrival was very welcoming, and even gave us a room upgrade as there was a cancellation.
We had a delicious full English in the morning, with tea, coffee and juice. There was also cereal available. We were offered more if we were still hungry. The only improvement being some baked beans.
In the evening we struggled to find somewhere to eat, due to covid the restaurant wasn't open, which is a shame. However, we were allowed to sit on the terrace to enjoy the view with a takeaway.
I would advise you book a table at Dylan's early as it seem to be the nicest place to eat in town, and the only place open past 8 for decent food.
