Detailed Reviews
I had a two day break at the Crown this Hotel is in the prime location right on the Harbour with magnificent views .
The Bar is typically Scottish bustling friendly with great selection of drinks at good prices .
All staff were efficient , welcoming and probably smiling behind there masks .
The room I had was at the rear. of the Hotel up a steep winding narrow staircase , although there was no sea view the room was a decent size with a large en suite with powerful shower with plentiful not water .
The furniture though old was of good quality , the twin beds were extremely comfortable .
The breakfasts were very good full Scottish with tattie scone, black pudding , bacon egg and sausage .
This was served piping not , I enjoyed all of it except the sausage .
This Hotel may not suit everyone but I would say it is excellent value for money .

Went for 2 nights mid September and have to give the hotel 100% on all aspects or maybe cut it to 98% if I was picky. Room was booked direct with hotel and we were in the top floor harbour facing and room was of decent size larger than expected, bathroom was also large. Check in went smooth even though the pub was busy and all Covid rules for then were very strictly adhered to. Good view over the harbour and very good meals and terrific atmosphere inside. Excellent staff and very attentive. You could have meals in the bar / or go through the back to the main dining area. Good breakfast and even though you could sit outside for meals or late drinks it was still respectfully quiet at night. This hotel was a lot more popular than the others and it is no wonder it gets booked up very quickly. I would love to come back here again for a Christmas or New Year shindig but suspect it would need boked about 3 years in advance with it being so popular. I will be back here again in the near future Also parking very easy just yards away

I think the Crown is relying on past reputation and it's sea front location and has forgotten the importance of maintaining good food standards. Our food was mediocre. Presentation was appalling, pate slopped on a plate with a squirt of sauce over it. Main courses just not up to scratch, feel I wasted £21 on a steak that was served medium as requested but that's all the positive feedback I could give. All the food was under seasoned and bland. We were also seated in the room at the back which is very cold, several people asked to be moved as it was so chilly.
The staff were all fantastic and service is top notch but I wouldn't choose to eat here again. Sorry.

Called into the Crown Hotel today in Portpatrick to check the process for booking lunch in this current climate - unfortunately the ignorant female bar staff didn’t bother looking up from her phone and carried on texting. I said ‘hello’ which she ignored and then my 9 year old son asked her a question. It seemed that our interruption of her message, set the tone for rest of our short conversation, as her abrupt response and lack of detail reflected this. Against my better judgement and the thought of a quality cooked local meal, I overlooked this slight hiccup in the planned lunch, as she could have just had a bad start to her day . However, it was a sad affair, the hotel has a prime location with fresh food at hand and they serve cheap processed rubbish. I chose fish and chips with tartare sauce, which you expect to be good in a port town with home made tartare sauce. How wrong I was, the chips were over cooked, the breaded fish was nearly as hard as the under cooked peas and when I asked where the tartare sauce was, the waitress checked and came back pointing at the satchets pot on the table. My wife had the cod loin, which although tasty, again came with over cooked chips and what appeared to be badly cooked veg. There was no follow up questions by the waitresses checking how the meal was. We were recommended this pub for its quality food by local residents and I even checked the reviews before we arrived in Scotland, unfortunately I missed the most recent ones about the ignorant staff and the poor quality shop bought food served as their own. To the management at the pub, manners cost nothing and if the food had been as good as recommended, we would have come back several times during our holidays, sadly ignorant staff and cheap processed food doesn’t work for repeat custom….

We booked to stay at The Crown Hotel ,Friday to Sunday morning as I’d been told Port Patrick was worth a stop off and it is a lovely place. I had booked the best room in the hotel over looking the harbour. It had a large bed, a sofa, two chairs and a great bathroom even though the lights above the bed didn’t work and I had to ask for a small light to plug in. Great I thought we can have a nice relaxing weekend.
The restaurant, food and staff were all excellent and here comes the but. The room was over the bar, the pub was very, very busy lots of noise from inside and outside. It was ok Friday night the noise stopped before midnight. Saturday night was a birthday party, the loudest music I’ve heard for a while and it went on until just after 1 am.
If the management had said at the time of booking( because I did ring and book) that this room was over the bar, and by the way we have a birthday party on the Saturday night I would not have booked. I’ve had conversations like this with other establishments and thought it kind of them to point it out. If we’d been a lot younger we might have joined in but being nearer 80 my dancing days are nearly over. We settled our bill after an early dinner on the Saturday night and had there been a manager or someone I could have spoken to at 9.30am when we left on Sunday morning I would not have written this negative review.
It was quite an expensive room considering our stay was an unhappy one, we went further north for a few more days and stayed in a similar room for half the price. I guess we were unlucky this time. It would be nice to point out the position of this lovely room so others are not disappointed.

Stayed at the Crown for 5 nights for our 30th wedding anniversary, we should've been in Cyprus originally. We had a great week. Managed to park across the road, social distancing was well organised in the bar/restaurant areas. I had emailed for an earlier check in which was approved although on arrival at 11.00am were told the room wouldn't be ready until 1.00, a little disappointing. We had a walk then back to get some lunch. Our room(5) is a large room with a big bathroom, the shower takes a while to warm up and it needs a bedside table on the other side, otherwise a fine room. Huge comfy bed, good storage space, the usual facilities. TV signal was a bit on and off. Great view of the harbour. We ate at the hotel on all but one night. No complaints about the food, all meals were excellent. That included steak, salmon, fish and chips, thai chicken and rice, all very good. Breakfast was great too, I had full Scottish every day which kept me going for the day. Also, cereals, porridge, fruit all available. A lovely spot right across from the harbour with great coast walks, particularly to the north past the golf club which went round to two lovely coves. A great stay, helped by cheerful friendly staff. Many thanks..

As many have said, this pub with rooms has an excellent location on the seafront, and whilst does not have its own parking, there was no trouble getting a space just across the road. Our room had a lovely view over the bay - unfortunately the weather was not kind to us, it feeling more like December than June.
The rooms are a bit dated and could do with a bit of a refurb, but were clean and comfortable.
Breakfasts were excellent - particularly the haddock and poached eggs, but we found the evening meals to be more 'pub grub' than restaurant standard. You certainly can't fault the portion sizes - only managing a main course on the 2nd night, having tried and failed to eat a starter and main on the 1st!
Friendly and helpful staff, both in the bar and restaurant.

They claim this is chicken breast
Look at the photo and make your own mind up.
I pointed out to the older waitress with the glasses and said that this was unacceptable and I had accidentally swallowed a bone which is why I only order chicken breast. She said this was chicken breast - judge for yourselves!

+1
Manager was rude and unnecessarily aggressive. We were incredibly unhappy with our main meals when they arrived and calmly mentioned that we did not want to eat them as they simply looked inedible, we had already struggled through a pile of overcooked, gritty and barnacle covered mussels.
When the manager arrived to address our complaints, his face was red with anger and he was about ready to attack us despite our calm attitudes. He proceeded to say we had not even tried the food and “this wasn’t how it worked”. I can confidently say we’ve eaten in some wonderful restaurants and know good food when we see it. (Connors in Portpatrick is an example of this)
We had gone out for a meal as a way to celebrate and left feeling upset. We had attempted to be pragmatic and understanding, recognising that COVID has been hard on the hospitality sector. Instead he was horribly nasty and told us finish our drinks and get out. You would understand this reaction if we had been rude to the waiting staff and manager. He made us out to be mugging him off, as though we were trying to get a free meal.
The main food isn’t even worth going into. Awful food is awful food but let’s just say; if you can’t even make the presentation of your food look good, there’s no point in me even eating it. It’s your primary responsibility to make me want to taste it. I did try the hollandaise on my salmon “special” and it was the equivalent to eggy margarine, so vile it made me gag. Please refer to the images below where you will see in detail what they thought was worth £13.95.

Room Tip: Just avoid at all cost. Food is meant to be an enjoyment. Here they insult it.

A great harbour side location in a pretty village gave a very good location for exploring the area. Plenty of nearby free parking. Staff were all really friendly and full of helpful advice on getting the best from our trip. Rooms okay, clean and well maintained, but a little tired. Seafood specialty recommend, the cod loin and mussels superb, rest of menu standard pub food . Breakfast was delicious. Very covid secure. We would recommend and return

The Crown is a fabulous pub, great food and atmosphere. Live music at weekends, but I've never experienced karaoke.
