The Dryburgh Abbey Hotel sits on the banks of the River Tweed in the breathtaking Borders countryside. Next to the historic ruins of Dryburgh Abbey, Sir Walter Scott's last resting place, it offers a fabulous location for fishing, cycling, walking, or simply enjoying a relaxing leisure break. Quality local produce is served in the tranquil setting of the Tweed resataurant by friendly and attentive staff. The proximity of the hotel to the Abbey also makes it an ideal venue for that special wedding day.

Poorly organised. Stayed for 1 night for a wedding. Staff were friendly enough but not in proper uniform , which when serving at a sit down meal looked a bit scruffy - cropped top, jeans . Receptionist just in a t shirt. Not the sort of look you expect at a nice hotel. Buffet Breakfast was a shambles. Served from 8-10am Had to ask for coffee, tea, bread for the self serve toaster. Hot food not replenished, quick enough. When I spoke to staff member she just said sorry out of our control , we can't control how much people take ! Definitely not worth £130 a room .

We had a room with a lovely river view. Plus points were comfy bed, clean bedding, good pillows and nice towels in bathroom. Staff were friendly and very accommodating with our dog. There’s walks you can do around the site and we were allowed to take dog in the majority of areas. Some great places to walk nearby too. However, there are signs of ageing in the bathroom and furniture and it would definitely benefit from investment as it’s in such a beautiful location. It’s family run and I expect it’s last refurbishment was 15+ years ago so it’s behind some standards we expect now but could be amazing with some investment, though appreciate the hospitality industry has faced a lot of challenges over the last few years. Would have liked to give 3 and a half points as ‘Good’ rather than average as there were positives and the stay was comfortable so would recommend people try the hotel.

Another most excellent stay and I look forward hopefully to an Autumnal stay. 9.0 Liked · Found my room to be more generous in space from my last visit and funkier looking bathroom, with a view towards the Abbey again. All breakfasts and evening meals were excellent as expected. There was a large family group who were attending a funeral and partaking in a celebration of life, which did not in any way impede in my 4 day birthday stay. I found them to be very friendly and didn't take over the public areas etc. The staff from reception to waiting/bar/housekeeping were all as per usual efficient and friendly. (I left some used towels outside my door and upon return - fresh ones in my room (usually left at door). I like that one of the family owners, Mr Wallace, knew to have my pint of lager at the bar for me when I returned from my daily sojourns between 5-6pm! to go sit in the lounge in front of the log burner to read a book, magazine or have very enlightened and diverse and interesting conversation with other guests. As on your own, you sometime feel you are impinging in other peoples company - but not at this hotel, it appears to be encouraged. Very big and large widest double bed ever and so comfy too and the pillows and ample wardrobe storage and hangers for clothing. The smaller wall mounted TV with Radio Stations (latter a boon for Classic FM!) It was such a lovely sunny day on day of departure, despite the past two mornings picturesque early hard frost, I was so reluctant to leave, upon enquiring my room was still free and having been a returner, got a deal for another evening. Unfortunately I had a medical appointment to keep for the Friday. Disliked · Enjoy having a hotel bath, but it appears the extractor fan was sucking heat out of any hot bath, if you can have a bath without the light on and light from room only! To be informed that the swimming pool and steam room may not ever be re-opened due to cost of running. (can see why in these times!) I was offered a coffee on day of departure, whilst sitting outside hotel in sun, finishing off postcards to walk up to local post box. On return I requested to pay at bar, (when I could've so easily conveniently forgot - not that one would!), when I queried the cost I was met with a very sharp response from a member of staff who'd previously been very friendly and polite - it appears this disappeared after they'd perceived one had already checked out! Note to future guests - be very careful of the walk in the hotel walking pamphlet on the walk from suspension bridge turning left other side of River Tweed opposite hotel to St Boswell's Village, it can be very challenging for less able on foot and slippery and dangerous in places, especially if the river has been in spate. I felt I was on the "Krypton Factor" and "Bear Gryhills" would've struggled!!!

We stayed here 6 months ago and were delighted, hence the return visit. However, how things change. The room was fine, and the parking offered plenty of choice. The food was what really let the place down, breakfast was buffet and on the first morning we partook , it was very piecemeal. There was a decent selection of cooked food, bacon, sausage, haggis, beans ,tomato but not an egg to be seen nor did they appear until we had finished.. the bacon wasn’t the best quality either. As we were leaving people were being told that it could be 15 minutes until it was all replenished. We didn’t get a maid service during our stay , although this is made clear in the hotel guest directory. Didn’t eat dinner on our first night, they close the kitchen to give staff a day off, however dinner on the second night, served in the bar area was very good, even if the service was a bit slow. Breakfast on the second morning was much better, with more choice but we did make a point of getting down there earlier. All in all not a great stay, which is a shame because it has a great location on the banks of the Tweed.

Great looking hotel in good location right next to the river. Room was nice and clean albeit not massive, but for one night it was all that we needed. Dinner was served in the bar and the menu was somewhat limited, bearing little relation to the sample menus on the website. The food was OK but nothing' to write home about'. My main criticism was the breakfast. The cooked breakfast was a 'help yourself' buffet in covered warming dishes and must have been cooked hours previous and then just kept warm(ish). There were hardly any fresh fruit, only a couple of cereals (no muesli), no marmalade, no pastries, orange juice was sweet diluted squash. Many of the tables were left with dirty pots all of the time we were there and staff sightings were rare. Such a shame as the breakfast room, on the first floor was lovely.

This is a lovely hotel in a great spot by the river, with friendly and helpful staff. We had a comfortable stay although I would say that the bathroom in particular needs an upgrade; sadly the hotel does look a little dated. But , for the money, this was a perfectly nice stay with pleasant food.

With a friend we have just spent 2 nights at this hotel. It is in a beautiful, peaceful setting which is convenient for touring the border towns. All staff were friendly, helpful and efficient and meal service was excellent. Like all hotels just now they have staffing issues so are supplying only breakfast on Thursdays to give their staff a break. The upstairs breakfast dining room is freshly decorated and overlooks the garden and the River Tweed. Dinner was served in the Bar / Bistro area down stairs and that worked well. There was a reasonable variety available on the dinner menu although vegetarian options were a bit limited. Our first floor "Abbey" double room (with optional bed settee to make it a family room) was very spacious. The decor did not look quite like the website photos; it was rather drab and could have done with at least a picture or two. The en-suite bathroom was OK, not the most modern but perfectly serviceable. Older style shower over bath worked fine. The hotel is local next to Dryburgh Abbey grounds (Historic Scotland). Much of the building is fenced off for maintenance but it made for an interesting and pleasant walk, viewing the magnificent trees and the River Tweed. The hotel is conveniently located for a visit to the very interesting Abbotsford House. The Great Tapestry of Scotland is located at nearby Galashiels. We plan to return.

I have recently enjoyed a very relaxing weekend with my wife at the hotel and wanted to thank all of the staff (Thank You!) for looking after us and making our stay a memorable one. We arrived early afternoon and decided to have afternoon tea sat on a comfy sofa. The sandwiches and cakes were lovely and hit the spot to keep us going until dinner. We met up with some friends for a few afternoon drinks sat in the grounds. What beautiful and tranquil grounds to spend time chatting with friends and a good sun trap as weather was glorious. We had dinner up in the dining room which is a lovely big room with plenty of space between tables so that you feel comfortable and not packed in, like a lot of places. After a nightcap in the bar we had a comfortable sleep and were ready for breakfast. This was plentiful and set us up for the day ahead. I know we will be returning and know for a fact that our friends have already booked to stay again. Again, I would like to thank all of the staff and management on a wonderful stay at Dryburgh Abbey Hotel, keep up the great work!

Recently stayed here for a 1 nights stay. Such a fantastic experience. We had afternoon tea by the fire place in the lounge, then some drinks outside in the sunshine with lovely views. Evening meal was so good best steak pie I have ever had. Crusty pastry with a generous portions of melt in your mouth diced beef with a tasty gravy. Served with mash potatoes and vegetables. Room was very clean and comfortable, We also had a lovely breakfast. Try the haggis. I would highly recommend and the staff are so friendly.

Lovely location but really the hotel that time forgot. Beautiful views were the only thing deluxe about a so called deluxe room. Furniture frankly needs the skip, housekeeping is pretty minimal and clearly hadn’t heard of a duster. Breakfast is not really adequate, cheap juices, poor cereal selection, no porridge, no fruit salad, Luke warm cooked breakfast and mostly do it yourself. Dinner was better but the dining room too hot and the wine list poor. This could be an amazing spot but it just about teeters on as a hotel. There is need for new ownership with ambition, an eye for detail and wanting to invest. Certainly wouldn’t return until they spend money updating and improving all aspects. If a Premier Inn opened in the vicinity they would need to improve their offer. As it is a lack of competition keeps them going
