Travelers frequently commend the Isle of Mull Hotel & Spa for its prime location and the high standards of cleanliness throughout the property. However, the establishment's value is often called into question, with numerous guests criticizing the steep prices for what they perceive as average quality in food, rooms, and services. While the staff is generally lauded for their friendliness, issues with inconsistent service and communication have been highlighted. Room sizes and water pressure have received mixed reviews, and though the setting is appreciated, shared amenities sometimes fall short of expectations.

Stayed here for 3 nights with my brother and we had a lovely visit. The hotel has undergone some refurbishment and the rooms were lovely, nice new bathrooms, open hanging space and nice textiles. Had a lovely view of the harbour and some stags outside the window!
Good breakfast menu choice and all the food we had was excellent. We had dinner there one night and again food was lovely, alot of locally sourced items. I did laugh at someone saying they have too much seafood - it says on the website it has a large selection of seafood and it's on an island where seafood is a big thing, this shouldn't have been a surprise! I myself don't overly like seafood and I didn't struggle at all, had a beautiful steak with sides that was cooked perfectly. They have added some new seating outside and it was nice to have some drinks looking down to the sea. Plenty of hand sanitising stations and space for guests to move around, we both felt very safe and relaxed while we were here. They explained to us the rooms weren't cleaned or serviced every day due to covid restrictions but if we did want it cleaned just to let them know at reception.
There were one or two small issues, but people have to remember this hotel, like many, has reopened after a long time closed and will be finding it's feet again. Our room was suppose to be a twin but when we arrived it was a double, and we had no toilet roll. When I spoke to reception they were so helpful and sorted the issues very quickly, even remaking the room into a twin while we were at dinner so as to not disturb us. The dinning room ran out of some dishes but like many industries I imagine they are experiencing problems with delivery and stock and it wasn't their fault. The head waitress at the restaurant was very busy and had alot on her plate but she was very polite and professional and had alot to organise and in my opinion tried her best. Yes there is some flaking paint on the windows - they haven't managed to refurbish the whole hotel yet. Yes some of the dining staff weren't quite on the ball - they might be new and still learning. I think after the past year people could be a little more understanding and not so critical. I enjoyed my stay, was a good location with friendly helpful staff and a comfortable room. Would definitely visit again.

Thank you for the kind review MissD, your understanding of the current situation the Hospitality sector is facing is greatly appreciated. You are correct, we are proud to offer local produce including some great seafood and cheese which is generally enjoyed and appreciated by our guests. The smaller issues you have pointed out are noted and have been addressed with my team, apologies for this. I do hope we have the opportunity to host you again in the future and look forward to proving that our service and attention to detail have improved. Best wishes John

We booked a night here as there was very little choice of accommodation on the island and the location was handy for catching the ferry back to Oban in the morning. At the time of booking, I felt it was quite expensive, and on balance after staying, I don’t feel it really delivered value for money.

As some of the other reviews detail, we felt it was a story of 2 halves. There were some elements we liked and some areas for development, but I do think the hotel has potential in the future.

As mentioned, the location is conveniently located for the ferry and the view from the hotel bar is lovely, overlooking the water. We found the rooms modern and comfortable, although I wouldn’t say they offer the additional luxury touches you might imagine for the price.

The corridors to access the rooms felt in need of refurbishment and reminded us of a bit of ski lodge; there’s also lots of little banks of steps & fire doors, so a bit of a struggle with luggage.

We ate in the hotel restaurant but again, it was a bit mixed. We were seated but then forgotten about, so had to chase for menus, and then when the food arrived, the fish was tasty but the pork belly was really very over cooked and we sent it back. The waiter was very apologetic and swapped it for another dish without issue, but this obviously meant we both ate on our own.

We got up early to catch the ferry so didn’t have breakfast, but not sure, after dinner the night before, that we missed much. We didn’t have chance to experience the pool/spa facilities either so can’t comment on this.

Overall, we had a nice enough stay but I don’t think the hotel offered value for money and I probably wouldn’t return.

We stayed for 4 nights from 9th of May. The hotel was very nicely located being only a few minutes from the ferry terminal and roughly centrally positioned for access to the north or south of the island. It has large grounds leading down to the sea and a pleasant shore side walk.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. I must particularly mention Robert in the restaurant who was always looking out for ways to help both the guests and other staff.

The public areas , bars lounge and restaurant, were very comfortable and provided great views over the sea. The dinner and breakfast food was excellent.

The disappointment was the room. It was a deluxe room with very comfortable bed and had features such as robes and slippers which was very nice but it was much smaller than we were expecting at £ 220 per night. There was nowhere to put our toiletries in the bathroom or drawers for clothes. The only provision for clothes was a shelf unit and hanging space under a shelf . It was unclear that we had to ask for the room to be serviced which it wasn't on the first night. We then asked for it to be serviced but that only happened on the second night leaving it unserviced on the third night.

We had such a lovely stay at the Isle of Mull hotel.

From the moment we arrived we found every member of staff to be incredibly friendly and professional. The hospitality industry has been really challenged this year and we could see how hard all the staff were working yet they were always smiling and happy to help.

We checked into our Seaview Suite which was so spacious and had amazing sea views. The hotel has recently been renovated and our room had been done up so beautifully. The bed was really comfortable, the bath was almost big enough to swim in and our room was so quiet. We loved the Ishga bathroom amenities and the little treats with the tea and coffee making facilities.

We had a great afternoon visit to the spa - the pool is a really good size and the jacuzzi with views out to sea is a perfect place to spend time relaxing (The thermal experience was complimentary with our room type) There is also a lovely little sculpture trail which is lit up at night and leads you down to a large sandy beach at low tide.

We spent most of our stay eating and drinking! We enjoyed a late lunch on the terrace before a delicious dinner in the restaurant. All our dishes were presented beautifully and we found the prices were very reasonable for a smart hotel on an island. Breakfast was also delicious with plenty of choice - you could not check out hungry!

If you're visiting Mull then a stay here is a must, and if you weren't planning a visit to Mull, you should now!

My friend and I booked two Classic Double rooms for a one night stay.
As we were in Mull for an aviation event, we just needed to stay for one night before flying off the next day, so neither of us used the Spa facilities, so I can't comment on that part.

Both of our rooms were clean and comfortable, but the bed seemed to be the type that is made up of two bases and two conjoined matresses, and the join in the middle was slightly uncomfortable to sleep on.
Furniture in the room was adequate, but I thought it looked a bit tatty and suspect that it was carried over from before the Hotel upgrade.
The "Sea View" (£20 extra) was nice, but the view through the window also revealed substantial flaking paintwork on the outside woodwork of the building. Was this overlooked when the three million pound upgrade was carried out?

The bathroom had a softclose lavatory and a modern square sink, but was short of any shelf space for guests to put washbags, shaving equipment or make up accessories. There was a sort of wooden washboard rack that was fitted under the sink, but this didn't substitute for a proper shelf in my view.
The bath/shower was fitted with a good "rain"shower and a hand held spray, but I was very dissapointed to find that the hotel only provided a small bar of soap and two plastic bottles of liquid soap afixed to the wall over the bath. This is similar to what one often finds in a three star budget hotel. I have to say that I thought this was very poor, and for an hotel charging the rates that this one does, I'd expect to see at least a tray of soaps, shampoos, bodywash and disposable shower caps.
When I used the bath/shower, I found out, nearly to my cost, that the bath, when it got wet, was extremely slippery underfoot. I didn't see any no-slip mat anywhere in the room. I was so concerned about this that I reported it to receiption who made a note of it. If nothing is done about this, I am certain there will be an accident at some time!

When we arrived, we had not eaten for some hours and requested an evening meal, but as we had not booked in advance, we were offered our dinner at some time after 9 o'clock at night. Far too late in my opinion and I think that more seating could have been made available in the dining area for more guests to use. As it was, the kitchen were good enough to serve us a nice meal in the lounge, but the low level tables made it somewhat cumbersome to eat a three course meal off.
Breakfast in the morning was very nice, but at £18 per person , I think it was quite expensive.

All in all, a decent enough hotel, in an area that doesn't actually have many decent hotels, so perhaps this is why the management have no problem charging the prices that they do.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel on April 29 during our 10-day trip to Scotland. We stayed in some wonderful places all over Scotland but sadly, this was not one of them. I booked a water view (suite (I think almost all of the rooms face the water)) at a cost of nearly $600 USD. The only positive thing I can say is that our room was really nice and the bed was comfortable. We felt like we were at a "tourist" hotel rather than a spa/luxurious hotel. It looks like it was an older hotel (very 1970s looking) that has been remodeled to be a "luxury" hotel. The Isle of Mull is quite lovely, but this hotel doesn't make you feel like you are on Mull at all. The food was unexceptional (not awful but the worst meals we had and over priced), there was a tour group dining at the hotel that night which made for a very loud and crowded dining room, and we could smell the fish several of the diners had ordered for dinner, which is never a good sign for fish. Our breakfast the next day arrived late - I had to ask because it never arrived, and it arrived cold. The hot water in the bathroom didn't ever get really hot, so showering and bathing was a very tepid experience. It was the most expensive hotel we stayed in and our most disappointing experience in Scotland. I did complain to the front desk on check-out and the Manager came and spoke with me. She apologized and offered to cover the cost of our breakfast, which she did, otherwise our room would have been closer to $670 USD. In the end, it just really isn't worth the cost. I know covid protocols have been dropped in the UK, but there were no protocols in place at the hotel except for wiping down of tables between diners.

Glorious location, courteous staff and a great night’s sleep

From arrival to departure, we had every need catered for. We were shown to our room, which has beautiful decor (we’ve even taken some inspiration from it for our bedroom at home) and a fantastic sea view!

The first thing that struck us was how great the location was - literally minutes from the ferry, which was great considering we’d driven from the South that morning - with a sea view, lovely gardens and a very short walk to a lovely beach!

During the evening we enjoyed drinks in the bar, on the veranda and then a lovely dinner in the restaurant. Everything was so peaceful yet there was a pleasantly lively and cheerful atmosphere. The view from the restaurant window during sunset was just perfect.

As vegans it can be hard finding good food alternatives at hotels, but there were plenty of options when we requested to know if any of the meals on the main menu could be made vegan. The same was the case for breakfast.

We had a great night’s sleep on a very comfortable bed and found our room to be very quiet despite it being a relatively busy evening. We were happy to find out the hotel was dog friendly and we didn’t find this to be a hindrance to our stay either!

The only feedback we gave in the morning was that it would be nice to have vegan biscuits in the room, rather than or in addition to those already available (we were jealous we couldn’t tuck into a Tunnocks) and our feedback was taken very well with the very welcoming manager saying it was a good suggestion and one that would be looked into.

All in all, we would definitely stay again and are very grateful for the service we received during our wonderful stay!

What a wonderful review, Thank you Dominic! I am so happy that you found our Hotel to be the perfect place to relax. Catering for all dietary requirements including veganism is something we are working hard at perfecting. Thank you for the note about the Tunnocks and sorry that you were not able to enjoy these. I will certainly look at adding a vegan treat to the rooms. Best wishes John

My husband and I went here for 3 nights and were looking forward to going as we hadn’t been away and this was the first time in 2.5 years together.
We had booked an “accessible”room which was £250 a night.
The room was similar to a travelodge. The room had a beautiful view of the sea but I couldn’t see it as it was too narrow between the window and bed for the wheelchair.
The bathroom was accessed through a narrow door the wheelchair just got through. It was tiny. I had to sit sideways on the toilet and couldn’t reach the sink. To use the shower I to get out of the bathroom my husband opened the shower screen and then enter.
We arrived about 8pm so ordered 2 mains and 1 dessert no drinks to the room and were £60+ which I think is expensive.
My husband raised our concerns on Thursday night to the reception which was brushed off.
On Friday we shared our feedback to a manager who was very understanding and refunded the cost of the room.
Overall very disappointed would definitely not recommend. Definitely not 4*. Accessible room is not accessible.

Dear Nugie92, As discussed when you were here, it is agreed that although the room is accessible, it was not accessible enough for what you needed. This is something that I empathised with and therefore offered the room as complimentary and waived cancellation fees for the additional nights. While discussing this, we agreed that a better explanation of the room and the level of accessibility would go a long way in avoiding similar issues going forward, this was taken on board and will be implimented. We will continue to learn and be better at hosting guests with disabilities. I am sincerely sorry that your expectations were not met on this occasion. Best wishes John

Hotel was lovely actually. In parts you could smell fresh paint from recent refurbishment. Our room 66 was situated at the far end of the hotel. To get there we went down a stair case, then up a stair case to go down again. It was quite odd. My 80 year old aunt kept saying their should be a lift however I don’t think it would have helped as the layout of the hotel seems to be split over 3 uneven levels. The food was lovely, staff very attentive and beach walk a delight. The spa however is the reason I won’t return. Our small room at the furthest end of the hotel cost £537 for 3 nights room only. The breakfast was an additional £12.50 if booked with reception or a whopping £18 if you just turn up. Back to the Spa. The swimming pool is included in your stay but that’s it. I paid £25 each for my aunt and I to have the full use of the pool and thermal suite and then an additional £5 each for a tub of mud. So I handed over £60 and went into the spa. We enjoyed the pool and then went to spend time in the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. Whilst in the jacuzzi the other 2 couples said they didn’t pay for the extras because no one checks. The following day in the bar we were speaking to yet another couple who also said they had been to the spa, used all the facilities and weren’t asked to pay more. The mistake I made was ask at reception how much it was to enjoy the thermal suite as well as the pool. The thermal suite I should add is a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and foot spa. £25 pp extra! The mud experience which was sold to us for an additional £5 each consisted of being handed a tub of mud to do 2 people and get on with it yourself. I’ve just been left feeling ripped off as I now know most people don’t pay the extra £25 pp cos let’s face it, it’s not worth it yet still use all of the facilities. We had been at Stobo Castle the month before where the room was similarly priced yet all spa facilities (minus treatments) were included. And robes and slippers were provided. At the aisle of Mull Hotel and Spa we were handed a small towel! So nice clean room, challenging stairs for the elderly and mediocre spa which should be included.

I visited Mull for 2 nights and stayed in this hotel. Last minute we wanted to bring our dog with us which the hotel had no issue with. It is extremely dog friendly with walks on the doorstep.

There is a lovely lounge and sea deck area with the most amazing view out towards sea.

The food was great! A lot of breakfast options and the fish for dinner was superb! Although the menu is quite expensive there are still options for £14-£16.

The staff were so friendly and accommodating. This made such a delightful atmosphere in the hotel.

The swimming pool available is great, extremely light and fresh towels are provided.

The location is great, 2 minutes from ferry terminal to Mull. Half an hour to Tobermory and 1 hour from Fionnphort. A great location to visit both places as well as climb Ben More.

Highly recommend.
