Never written a review, but just returned from a two day break in Islay and stayed at the wonderful Kilmeny Country House. Our perfect hostess Margaret, could not do enough to make you feel welcome. From the wonderful afternoon tea on arrival to the quite excellent breakfast, nothing was too much trouble. Bed was huge and exceptionally comfortable and the...

We have been travelling to Islay for many years and had never heard of Kilmeny House before. A family bereavement resulted in us trying to find accommodation at short notice a friend suggested we contact Margaret. You could not possibly find a kinder person, attuned to our situation and determined to make us as comfortable as possible. We took 3...

We stayed two nights in April and loved everything about it. The house is warm and welcoming and our hostess, Margaret, was charming and extremely helpful. We arrived rather late and she had left some delicious cakes and a wee dram in our room for us. The setting is perfect, up on the hillside and surrounded by sheep, with two...

We stayed in September whilst cycling around the west coast islands. Well the house is very traditionally decorated and immaculate. The host was incredible welcoming, tea and cake in the living room. There were lots of nice touches in the bedroom, robes, milk in the fridge, wee dram of whiskey. The bathroom in our suite had a tv built into...

Full disclosure: I stayed here in April 2014, but never got around to posting the review. The room was very comfortable and stocked (appropriately) with Laphroaig. Looking in all directions you see sheep meadows, so as you can imagine it's staggeringly quiet at night. The quantity of stars you can see in the sky is disorienting. For anyone used to...

We had the most delightful stay last July at Kilmeny Country House. Words cannot express how charming this place is or the beautiful setting on a hillside overlooking fields of very friendly sheep. Our hosts saw to our every need with tea and cake waiting as well as a wee dram to chase away the cold (yes - it was...

Stayed here for 3 nights in August with family for I think the fourth time and had a wonderful weekend. I challenge anyone to find a better location with friendlier hosts than Margaret and Blair. The bedrooms are beautiful with little touches I have not seen anywhere else - from toiletries to shaving kits, dressing gowns, a small fridge with...

Everything about the experience provided at Kilmeny was spot on. Wonderful hospitality and rooms. Nothing too much trouble. The breakfasts are the best start to the day one could wish for, something for every taste and to set you up whatever you're doing; exploring, canoeing, site-seeing, whisky touring or simply relaxing. We stayed in the apricot room which was exceptionally...

Quaint country luxury. My friend & I were lucky enough to have a two night stay here as I returned home to see my sister be married. Margaret is the most wonderful and welcoming hostess. Nothing is too much trouble. Margaret & the wonderful staff work extremely hard to maintain such a high standard. We had a beautiful double en...

We could not speak highly enough about the experience of staying at Kilmeny House. Whatever your reason for visiting Islay you must stay here. The accommodation and Margaret ,your host, will exceed expectations. If you wish to get married somewhere remote then this is the place to stay. Get married on an island on a lake about a mile from...
