Lovely hotel full of old world charm. I spent two nights with my German Shepherd and we enjoyed ourselves greatly in and around Tain, the Royal hotel added to our enjoyment.
The staff are friendly, discreet and helpful as required.

Stayed here for one night. Its a handsome building, old fashioned inside with an eclectic mix of decor. My room was a decent size and the bed was quite comfortable. It was clean although a little tired and maybe in need of a refresh. The...More
Booked a single en suite but when arrived they only had shared bathroom. Decided to go elsewhere. Owner didn't seem very upset and no option of a refund. They offered a 20% discount on the room charge. Not fair to judge on my experience but...More
Really nice find. Room had four poster and was amazing. Evening meal really good quality. Bar area has over 200 malts and not just Scottish ones. Really nice place to stay. Only downside, cooked breakfast a bit basic and self service from Bain Marie.

Hello there, apologies I did not see your question earlier. I was quite surprised by the hotel as I kind of expected the same, but it was very quiet when we were there, the restaurant was ok, however I'd recommend the restaurant by the station. It is ageing a bit, but the friendly staff and location more than made up for it as it was nice to be central. I believe the place was very busy at one point when the oil was booming, however the the terminal nearby has pretty much all but closed its door and I believe the whole town is quieter due to this. I was just in a single room, which was a bit on the small side, but I'd imagine the family rooms would be a lot larger. There is no smoking in the hotel by law (UK laws now). My room was cleaned daily. I dare say there is better hotels around Tain, however they're a bit of a distance. I was happy, but was only there on business. I hope this is of some help to you guys, and that you enjoy your trip, it is what you make of it that counts :)
