Enjoy your stay in Tain!
I stayed at the hotel for two nights on a family trip and boy am I glad I did. From the point of booking, the service was slick and easy. We received a warm welcome from Heather and Derek and were shown to our twin room which was immaculate. The room was quiet, and the bed was so comfy I could easily have slept it voluntarily.... but that would have meant missing breakfast! And what a breakfast. In fact, the meals both nights were beautiful with fresh local cuisine front and centre. I class myself as being high on the greedy scale, but it felt like an audition for an eating contest! Amazing value for money which meant I bet the cost-of-living crisis for a couple of days by skipping lunch. Heather and Derek were such friendly hosts and were very knowledgeable about the local area and NC500. I would highly recommend the hotel and will definitely return! …
My favourite place to stay in Tain. Honestly cannot fault this place at all. Food absolutely superb staff lovely really go above and beyond and make you feel welcome the place is absolutely spotless and nice comfortable beds. I will definitely be back 😀 thanks guys
Fantastic hotel with a very warm welcome, run by a lovely couple, Heather & Derek. Food is exceptional with extremely generous portions, all cooked by Derek. Super comfy beds in quiet room. Very clean and comfortable overall but the friendliness is second to none, truly a home from home. Thank you for the welcome break en route to Orkney Heather & Derek.
Well, I'm not usually one for writing reviews, but this place is well worthy of a little of my time. Myself and Brother Ali were on business in the area and needed somewhere to stay that was close to our next day destination. So we got booked into the Lodge. Now I'm a little sceptical of non well branded accommodation, I'm usually comfortable with Lenny Henry's place, at a push a Hillbilly Inn ? How wrong was I. We booked, immediately received a text from Heather advising us of the current Covid rules in Scotland (we're from England) very, very politely I might add. We got the menu and restaurant timings via text, our room numbers, how we could access the hotel rooms, and to call if we had the slightest issue. We arrived early, but accessed our rooms which were extremely clean, well equipped, but most importantly.... WARM! It's cold up there. Anyway, after a quick shower we decided that we ought to go and say hello to our hosts and maybe have a quick beer. We were greeted by Heather's Husband (shamefully I never asked his name) but what a warm, friendly, engaging sort of guy he is. More about him in a moment. Heather arrived a little while after and was equally as warm and engaging as her Husband. We had a beer and a chat about life and time generally - which was great, it was then time to eat. Well I kid you not. I've had Plaice, Chips and Peas before..... Not like this. EPIC is the only way to describe it. Beautifully cooked, beautifully presented, and so, so tasty. We don't get fish thats white in the middle in the Midlands!! Let me tell you, Mr Husband can cook!! Moving on. A few more beers and we were asked what we might like for breakfast, and also what time we would like it as it would be freshly cooked to order. I've never experienced that before. So, I ordered the full Scottish, Brother Ali opted for Smoked Salmon and scrambled egg. More toast jam and honey than you could ever eat, fresh coffee and juice. Seriously, that guy can cook!! Well, again, it was EPIC. We both left the Lodge well rested, well fed, and well happy. Absolutely great hosts (sorry Mr Owner but I didn't get your name) great value, great place. All you need to do is go there. Who Knew...... Best Regards Baz & Ali Nicwood Logistics…
We stayed for 3 nights at this excellent hotel. Heather and Derek, the owners looked after us superbly, despite the difficulties of face masks and other Covid restrictions. The bedroom was immaculate and food delicious, with a great choice for breakfast. Heather even offered us ‘off menu’ specialties following chats about food we particularly like. Husband was delighted with his mussel stew and the lamb cutlets were top notch. At breakfast, my top favourite was the Finan Haddock with poached eggs on top. It glad been poached in milk and lemon which gave a delicious flavour. Heather also made a special trip to Tain cheese factory to buy a box of 8 Tain cheeses on our behalf. Terrific value at £20! Highly recommend
Good parking on site, adjacent to main road; quiet location. Wi-fi & mobile good; room is comfortable and decent size. Food is very good. Staff were helpful and cheery. Ideal location for travelling north or south.
Stayed as part of a driving group and we had a great time there. The hotel and rooms are a little dated and are not a visual highlight. However the pride in the service and making customers feel welcome was exemplary and the food was absolutely fabulous. Prices are very reasonable too so I would highly recommend it.
The food and the staff here are fantastic! I had visited some time ago with a friend who lives locally. The food now, is still every bit as delicious as it was on my previous visit. Absolutely fantastic dishes, all served quickly and piping hot. We were here with a small group, and only stayed for one night. The staff were amazing, too. Great value!
It is not clear why this hotel describes itself as a lodge. It is a purpose built restaurant and bar with rooms. The restaurant and bar are better than the rooms which are tiny. There is nowhere to stow a suitcase and the only place to sit down is on the chairs next to the bed which double as bedside tables. In our room the toilet roll holder was falling off the wall and one of the shower doors had come adrift from its track. The dining room on the other hand is quite large and I imagine is a popular venue for weddings. The food is plentiful. Breakfast was good quality and freshly cooked. On the whole, however, I would try to find somewhere else next time.
Really enjoyed the cute and cozy bar and the pint of Guinness with my husband. Heather could not have been kinder or more helpful. The menu was wide and varied and the food was delicious! Would highly recommend this spot for a drink or dinner or both!
