Very lovely old building and nice grounds in beautiful town of Strathpeffer. Our room showed signs of mould inside and also in the hall outside. Imagine it is a massive job to keep up all the maintenance of this place but it does need some work in some areas. The dining room was very cold and lacked atmosphere. The evening meal was very basic but the breakfast was better, usual buffet selection. Bar area was nicer with some lovely traditional decorations. Our room was quite hot all night but that’s better than being too cold, especially in January. Would stay again.

This hotel was beautiful!!! I had a beautiful corner room with so much space and a fabulous huge bathroom! The grounds are filled with trees and flowers. It is such a gorgeous place to walk around. The town itself looks like it is out of a movie!

From the outside it is stunning a very impressive building with lovely gounds however car parking spaces are poor some had to park in the mud under the trees. The welcome was friendly and efficient the rooms are a wee bit of a maze to get to however they do have a lift. When I eventually got to my room it was cold yet radiator was on full and hot to touch large window top of 1 wall which let in a almighty draft!! The black mould of the wall. Other wall had the paper peeling off with damp. The cleanliness needs attention! However they do give you a good supply of tea/coffee. Entertainment they had on was terrible!! Bar was expensive and the food was good definitely give you plenty. Staff were friendly but clearly saw if they know you they are far more attentive (coach drivers who were in) overall its a good hotel it just requires a serious revamp and deep clean.

Just back home from a Twixmas Break at the Ben Wyvis. The Ben Wyvis is absolutely my favourite of Strathmore's hotels. Strathpeffer must be one of the most picturesque villages in Scotland and the hotel's setting and outlook is just stunning. My room a superior double was clean and comfortable with a decent bathroom. The food was good and plentiful and the dining room staff were efficient and pleasant. The dining room itself was a grand room rather reminiscent of country house dining with very impressive chandeliers. The lounge and bar area were done in a similar style and if you like a old country house style you'll probably like the hotel. I think the main appeal of the hotel are the staff who were all very welcoming especially Martin behind the bar who was kind enough to help me with wifi. This was my fourth or fifth stay at the Ben Wyvis and I'll doubtless return again.

Just back from a lovely weekend away at the Ben Wyvis Hotel. A great spot in the Victorian Spa village of Strathpeffer. Great staff, great food, great value for the winter deal and loads of walks round and about for us and the dogs. A really relaxed atmosphere, couldn’t have been better, thanks v much.

We stayed as a group in November and were greeted by a warm welcoming hotel with super friendly helpful staff who were more than happy to please. The hotel and room were spotlessly clean, the menu's varied and absolutely delicious food was served every day. The surrounding area is beautiful and provides plenty for all to do, whether you want to be active or just relax and enjoy. All in all, I cannot fault this hotel and its staff in any way, would thoroughly recommend to anyone.

What a beautiful grand entrance as you drive in, to then be greeted by this gorgeous building at the end of the drive! We arrived at midnight after a long drive from the south and was greeted by the night porter who showed us to our huge room. We had booked last minute and with 2 adults and 2 children there was only a triple room left but they called me on my way up and said they had managed to move us into a room with a double and a single and had put a Z-bed up for us and no extra charge which was very nice of them. The room was huge, a bit dated but clean and comfy beds. I don’t know anywhere you can get a family room for that price and we are well travelled. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were all so welcoming and friendly. Even though we arrived very late on the Friday night, when we went out for the day on Saturday and returned late afternoon they had still been in and cleaned our room which was lovely. Ignore any negative remarks in this site from people who expect 5* hotels for 3* prices. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend. The place is huge, I’m suprised they can even heat the place on the low amount they charge for the rooms! Our room was lovely and clean and warm and cosy. Thank you 😊

Reception staff friendly and welcoming Bar comfortable with nice staff The restaurant is where it falls apart. It turns out it serves from 5 to 8.45pm, unless you’re 2 years old no-one eats at 5. We booked a table for 8 o’clock and it was abundantly clear that home time was the primary concern, we sat down at 7.55 and were out at 8.30 We had prawn cocktail to start. It arrived in a bowl kids would eat their ice cream from, a bit of green, a piece of tomato covered with a shop bought sauce and the smallest prawns the local supermarket could find. When asked why there was no bread the answer was “that only comes with soup”. The main course was bland. We didn’t bother with dessert. Sort the restaurant out and you’re on a winner because the area is great.

We were with a tour group of 47. To start off with, my wife & I are both over 67, we both have had knee replacement surgeries and have problems with stairs. We were assigned a room on the 3rd floor, unfortunately the only elevator (lift) only goes to the 2nd floor. From there, you have to go up 2 flights of stairs, open doors to access the hallway to our room. We are loaded with clothes for a 2 week stay from the United States. That means 2 45 pound + suitcase’s, 2 carryon suitcases, and 2 extra bags. We wanted to change rooms to a lower floor, but was told that they were booked sold. They did have 2 porters haul our heavy bags up to the room. Sorry fellas! As for the room, it was very small! I mean, I had to go outside to change my mind! Th room was a dormer with a bed and a bathroom. Out of all the hotels we stayed at, this was my least favorite! One of the lower level rooms might have been nicer, but not ours! The staff kind of matched my sour experience! They were gruff, pushy and unwilling to help us with a room change. When we came down for breakfast and sat at a table near our group, they tried to direct us to some occupied seats. We had to point that out to them. Just not a good stay. I will not go back there for all the above reasons.

Stayed here overnight while travelling for my birthday. We arrived and checked in and we were given room 121. The room was beautiful, very spacious and had a 4 poster bed with panoramic windows that framed the spectacular views. We booked an evening meal because there isn't much open around this time of year. The evening meal is a set menu and priced if you have 1, 2 or 3 courses. I chose venison stew for my main and it was delicious. For dessert I chose a pineapple sponge with ice cream, the sponge was solid and had a congealed lump of something on top definitely not pineapple and the ice cream was solid just out of the freezer, sadly I sent it back because I was afraid it would break my teeth. The server was not very happy that I had returned the dessert but I really refuse to eat something at that price not up to standard. After dinner, we sat in the lounge for a while and had a drink. It was nice and warm when we first sat down but the temperature started to get cooler and the radiators became cold. When we returned to our room we noticed that the room was also cool the radiators were also off and we couldn't put them back on. Overnight the room was freezing and I slept with a hoodie on. The heating didn't come back on until around 6 am. Breakfast was good and plenty of choices. Overall I loved the hotel and our room. I was disappointed in the dessert and the server's attitude changed towards us when I returned a sub-standard item. The dessert was still on the bill when we checked out so had to ask for it to be removed. I would return to this hotel and probably recommend it to friends and family.
