A group of family and friends had high tea..I have eaten in many establishments including 5* hotels in London and we all agreed this was the best..the food and service was fantastic and the surroundings and decor was superb..I will be going back
From canapé in the library, to the amazing bread and accompaniments, to the duck and scallops, the Venison and cod, the chocolate and tart tatin, the cheese board and wine and the cocktails we had nothing short of an amazing dining experience to celebrate a significant birthday around the stunning Mara dining table. We will all remember this for a long time to come and thank you also to the frankly amazing staff who were so warm and friendly which just added to the experience
I was extremely lucky to be treated to a night here by my husband for our anniversary, and boy did he pick well, we stayed in the Thurso suite which is in the newest building, as luck would have it, we were the only people in that building for the night, it made the experience even more special, relaxing in the large lounge on the super comfy sofas with a glass of champagne and the place to ourselves felt like we’d won the lottery and bought a mansion haha. The suite was breathtaking how beautiful it was decorated, the bed was huuuuge and so appreciated the Hypnos mattress as we have that at home so we both slept soundly. The paintings everywhere are so interesting too. The dinner at night was truly exceptional as was the wine, I loved the metal flask with iced water as it was much needed after the wine, and there was still ice in it in the morning. And the chocolates left for our return from dinner was a nice touch. The whole place is immaculate, oh and we were greeted so lovely on arrival by Philippa, she showed us round and explained everything so well. I’m now planning on returning very soon to treat hubby for his birthday as a surprise, and it’s rare we ever return to the same hotel so that says a lot.…
On arrival at Links House, we were warmly welcomed by Philippa. She introduced us to her Dad, Fraser, who looked after us the whole time we were there. Fraser was our waiter, tea connoisseur and expert on all that was served to us. Everything was homemade and the scones, in my opinion, were the star of the show. They were the perfect size for afternoon tea, warm, slightly crisp on the outside and melt in the mouth in the inside. Nothing was too much trouble for Philippa and Fraser and we will definitely be booking a return visit. Superb!!
This covered all the basis. Great room great service great food. Nothing was to much trouble. We will return if only for the food and delightful service. A little gem to be savoured. A great selection of whiskey and very knowledgeable staff to advise on tastes you had not experienced.
This is our second stay at this hotel which we absolutely adore however it is not without its faults. We (two couples) stayed in the Glenshiel suites and loved the decor, size and quality of the fixtures and furnishings. The ground floor lounge area that services the 5 or so rooms in this building is a beautiful space but could do with a resident butler or member of staff to assist. There is supposed to be an honesty bar but this was not in operation. Tea and coffee making facilities on the first floor are inconvenient, why no nespresso machine in room? We paid for packed lunches one day but were disappointed. The soup was luke warm, the sandwiches were on bread an inch thick, dry and not buttered. £15 each would have been a reasonably price if the quality was right. Our second evening in Mara restaurant was not a great success, we did change our dining time unexpectedly but were then left waiting in the lounge for a long time and the meal service was painfully slow. The first evenings experience was far better with Fraser in attendance. So, unfortunately, a mixed review. It won’t put us off staying again but a few tweeks would make the experience so much better.…
Stayed in the Mallert suite which was spacious, full of antique furniture and comfortable. Great for self catering and has a fully equipped kitchen. Beautifully decorated throughout and great outside space on the balcony for sitting. Excellent check in with a thorough explanation of how everything works in the suite and how to book for breakfast. Breakfast was served in the Mara restaurant. Good sized tables which were impeccably set. Orders were taken meticulously and prompt delivery of of food. Great choice of starters, cooked breakfast and breakfast drinks. We were not golfer but exploring the local area. Great base for things to do in the local area. Did not feel out of place because we were not golfers. Would recommend and is one of the best.
Paid £350 for a single small room for one night. Extraordinary lack of facilities in the room. No coffee machine (on the landing and broken) no kettle, no ironing board, no fridge in the room. Internet down to 2.5mbs much of the evening. Staff nice, hotel looks nice and the rooms are expensively decorated. I can get better facilities at a premier inn.
What can I say about this visit. Staff are lovely, very much a family feeling to the warm welcome we received. Our boys were sharing a room and I asked if they had one free and a canceled booking that morning meant room each, all dealt with superbly and with no fuss. Our room was on the top floor and was the “owners suite”. Three beautiful appointed rooms. Very much like a home from home. Boys rooms were both as nice. Food was to a very high standard as was service in the evening, breakfast was a little slow, but that was probably me wanting to leave promptly, but the food was equally as good as dinner. Feedback from our boys…probably the most comfortable rooms we have ever stayed in. Beds are big and very comfortable. We shall be back soon to sit by the real fire on a cold winters evening. Can’t wait.…
We had tea and toured the rooms. Great food, service and ambiance. The town is quaint with little shops. We traveled with golfers from the US and plan to return yearly! We would have loved to stayed but we were on a ship. I also had a fantastic white burgundy with my meal.
