On a recent overnight stay we were delighted to find such a quality inn in this hidden and remote setting. The welcome was warm, the staff professional at all times and both the food and the room good value and of a high standard

We live locally and have eaten at The Marquis of Lorne 4 times this year and the food has been very good. We love the pub's atmosphere and location. However, on this occasion we were disappointed with our Roast Beef Sunday Lunch and Puddings. The Beef itself was over cooked and tough and although it was accompanied by an excellent...

Booked to stay one night. Some of the room names are quirky! The room was In keeping with the age of the property. The view from the room was stunning. Beverage tray was well stocked including homemade cookies and fresh milk. Breakfast included locally sourced produce and extremely good local farm sausages. If staying I recommend you book a table...

We had come across this pub in Dorset Arts Week in May and stopped for an excellent coffee before the pub had fully opened, and watched a deliriously happy spaniel watching a herd of semi-cooperative cows being guided past the pub. We were so impressed we resolved to negotiate the narrow lanes again and come back for a lunch. This...

We discovered the Marquis whilst on holiday in nearby West Milton. Its in a beautiful setting in the West Dorset countryside - quiet and deeply rural. The beer was excellent. Palmers bitter, well kept and tasty. The food too was excellent, lots of choice on the menu, well cooked, generous portions and good value. All in all, main course, pudding...

Let's start with the restaurant. If this was just a restaurant review, it would be 5 stars. The menu is inventive and very well executed. One night we had lamb cutlets and shoulder of lamb, the next lobster. The starters were very good, particularly the avocado, salmon and crayfish dish. Kudos to the chef. This is an attractive country inn...

Visited twice whilst on our week long holiday and were very impressed with the food and the warm, friendly atmosphere. On arrival you are greeted by the landlady with a smile and thereafter nothing is too much trouble. The staff are efficient and the food extremely well cooked and presented. The portion size is generous which is always important when...

We stayed for a 2 night stay and the food was so good we had dinner both nights. Menu has excellent choices and the presentation was superb. The quality of produce was very high, clearly don't cut corners. We enjoyed steak the first evening cooked to perfection and Lamb shoulder the second evening. Cooked breakfast was the best. Interesting drive...

Great pub. Delighted to have found it. Will be coming back as the the lunch ciabatta's and the evening dinner were the best we have had in this area. Great location as well with fab play area for kids. Met people there who have been staying there for the the last few years and still love every aspect.
