I am really baffled by some of the reviews on here about this hostelry. It is clearly a labour of love for the owners. The staff were friendly and helpful. The pub is immaculate warm and inviting and nicely decorated. The food was lovely and they served a great gin in the proper bulb glasses (definitely a bonus and rare... More

Fantastic Hotel to stay in. We booked for 4 nights and we had a wonderful stay. ALL staff were very attentive and would always be on hand if you needed something. Lovely craft ciders brewed in the area and nice real ales. Also a lovely choice of food first dinner. We can recommend the Scallop Rissotto and also the home... More

Whilst on holiday in Dorset for a week we dropped into the Ilchester Hotel for a meal one night. The menu had only a few choices. A young lad behind the bar asked what we would like to drink so we ordered a pint of shandy and a half pint of cider. He struggled to total the cost of the... More

This pub is awful I came here with my mum and dad on a lovely day out we looked this pub up and it looked nice. So we thought we would give it a go. We were wrong. We waited an hour for our 3 meals to come in which my mum's bacon was cold a hair was found in... More

Called in on a very warm day for a welcome drink with OH and dog. Loved the quirky rooms - could have spent a few hours looking around. I asked my OH to get me a cider. Loads of choice, so instead of my favourite Stowford Press went for a nettle cider! It did actually taste of nettles with a... More

Arrived at Ilchester Arms Hotel on Friday night after spending over an hour driving around trying to find some accommodation. Staff were warm and friendly on arrival and thankfully for us had a room at a very reasonable price! After checking in we were shown to our room, which was named 'violet' it was a very good sized room and... More

The Ilchester Arms is an old coaching inn in the centre of Abbotsbury. The car park is accessed through a rather tight coach arch and one would not want to arrive in a Hummer. We had taken a number of rooms to accommodate us over a wedding being held locally. We started to arrive around one against a check-in time... More

We do not live a great distance away from this village, yet had never actually stopped for a visit before. We knew we would be away for the Saturday afternoon so decided to make a weekend of it and through laterooms booked a night in the Violet room at the Ilchester Arms. We were so glad we did. We arrived... More

My stay actually got off to a rather positive start. I was shown to my room by a very amiable gentleman (the owner I think) who was pleasant and welcoming. Unfortunately his assurances that there was plenty of hot water, "you just have to let it run for a while", proved to be incorrect. The shower never got past lukewarm... More

We have just had the best meal in 2 weeks of touring. The atmosphere here is lovely, quirky, and my risotto with scallops and bacon is certainly a meal I will try to replicate at home. Give it a go if your in Dorset.
