What a lovely and pleasant country pub with very comfortable accommodation. A stay in the cottages right next to the pub, is like having your own country getaway with a pub and restaurant right on the doorstep. Great value for money. The pub is a traditional old fashioned coaching Inn with excellent real ales and is run by a lovely...

Stayed here recently when attending a wedding. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Warm welcome, good food (breakfast was made to order) and the room was exceptional - very clean and fabulously furnished. The landlady even waited up for us to return from our wedding and enjoy a night cap. Would definitely stay again.

We booked a cottage at the Portsmouth Arms the night before our wedding 3rd November 2016 at Millbrook Estate. It was very good we ate in the pub for our evening meal and that was very good and had breakfast in the morning which was cooked to order. Our cottage was just fine and we thought that it was very...

Just returned from a 3 night stay in the Portsmouth Arms. accommodation was really comfortable, great nights sleep. The food is excellent, Dee is a great cook and the portions are really generous. We enjoyed meeting the locals, everyone is very friendly and would not hesitate to go back when we are down that way again.

Travelling around Britain we had an appointment in Bideford and selected this place online to be close by. We were very happy we did. As another reviewer has said we had the best sausage and mash ever! We were very happy to have an enormous dish of beautifully cooked veges ( something we have craved after 3 weeks of travelling)....

Had probably the best sausage and mash that I have ever eaten. The sausages come from a local butcher and are really tasty. The dish was served with a side of fresh veggies in a dish almost as large as the main. There was broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cabbage, mange tout and green beans, very nice. One of the nicest things...

It's not until you taste fresh fish that you remember how good it is, of course it helps if it is cooked and served well - which it was. The "other half" had sausage and mash - they were huge - but he managed. Expected the pub to be noisy as it is sandwiched between a road and a railway...

Random visit for Sunday lunch. Very clean and tidy with great pub food . Dogs are welcome . Vegetarians are welcome 😃. I would recommend a visit ,it seemed quite for a Sunday diner time. Will certainly be returning soon with the family. Only criticism was that I think the owners could have been a lot more welcoming .

We had amazing food here which were really big portions! The owners were both really friendly and the pub is really cute. You definitely don't need a starter though (we shared one), highly recommend the steak (get the peppercorn sauce with it, best we've ever had!) and gammon.
