From the moment we went in to the George to meet Mark to discuss arrangements for our mother's funeral reception I knew we (and she) had made the best choice! He proved to be not only extremely accommodating and sensitive to our particular needs ("Where there's a will there's a way!") but was personable and attentive throughout our stay. So...

I stayed here a few weeks ago and I can thoroughly recommend it. The Gentleman who checked me in when I arrived was very nice and the Lady who served breakfast in the morning was equally pleasant. The room was a good size for a single, and the bathroom was larger than many other Hotels'. The bed was nice and...

We stayed at The George Hotel for two nights for our anniversary weekend. The owner, Mark, and his staff are what makes this place - they are all warm, welcoming and very helpful. The waiting staff are brilliant, honestly Jess was superb; we bought a bottle of wine to have with our meal in the bar on our first night...

Being local to the area, we had heard that the George Hotel was under new ownership. We dropped in for a coffee a few days ago, which was enjoyed in a nice comfortable lounge area so we decided to try lunch. The food was exceptional and well presented and the service was also very good. We would recommend it, and...

My husband & I stayed here on Saturday night as we wanted to go to the Antique Fair & when ringing to book was advised that the fair was next door - definitely an added bonus. On arrival, we were greeted very warmly by Mark, who answered our questions about the area & we booked to have dinner that evening....

This hotel is in a great location in a lovely small traditional Devon market town. The new owners are well on with their regeneration plans and in re-establishing it as a classic hotel. The current facilities are good if a little tired, food well prepared and plentiful and the service excellent. Definitely a place to stay again. In time this...

Very comfortable night, excellent deep-yellow yolked poached eggs for breakfast, delicious dinner and excellent rose wine (not always that easy to find in remoter areas of the country). Clean rooms and really friendly and helpful staff. Only very minor drawback is canned music which seems to follow you from room to room. However, when we asked for it to be...

Popped in with friends who live locally who were enthusiastic about the new owner and the changes to the hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed the creamy homemade mushroom soup, salmon and capers/fish and chips which were freshly cooked and presented well. Mark and his waiting staff were very friendly. Having a welcoming atmosphere with reasonable prices and excellent food means we...

Dear BerkshireLindylou Thank you so much for your kind words following the lunch that you and your friends enjoyed with us on Saturday. We launched our lunch menu last week which is being well received by our hotel guests and locals alike. A gentle reminder and note for your diary - we serve lunch Tuesday through Saturday, 12pm to 2pm...
