The Quayside is a lovely quaint hotel with very friendly staff. The rooms are reasonably small and accessed by a steep staircase but they are more than adequate. We had an inland view which was fine as let’s be fair how much time do you spend in your room. We enjoyed a lovely evening meal and bottle of wine on our first night. Breakfast had both continental and full English all of which was very nice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely visit again.
First night we were two couples. All happy with our rooms staff very helpful. We were on a travelzoo vouchers. One couple only staying one night bed breakfast evening meal. We were two nights bed and breakfast evening meal on first night. All very good excellent meal. Second night we booked for evening meal as so happy with first night. We asked if possible to sit in window and were advised it was booked and they apologised. No problem we sat down at another table. After about 5 to 10 minutes we were eventually given a menu. After another ten minutes we were asked by a very friendly Earl if we had decided and we said yes we had but at that moment another couple came into the restaurant and after not to happy with choice of tables Earl very kindly made up table by window!!!! He then spent such a long attentive time with them we got forgotten. Hence we left and ate elsewhere. Very disappointed as never experienced this on the two previous times we've stayed there before.
This is a quirky little hotel. The stairs are very narrow and steep. The rooms are quite small and the water pressure is rubbish. But what a view. Saying that the breakfast had a good variety on offer. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Eat your evening meal next door as it cooked by the same chef, but much cheaper.
The bar is quite small but adequate, it is only open from 6 in the evening. The lounge is next to the bar so drinks can be taken in there.
The absolute star of the hotel is definitely Earl. He is very polite, helpful and hilariously funny.
Would I return to this hotel a definite yes, but only if Earl still works there
We paid extra for a harbour view on second floor and it was lovely to wake up and see the harbour from our bed. We had a travelzoo deal with evening meal on the first night. Was surprised at the quality of the food in the restaurant. Superb fish starter (scallops) and wonderful fish main dish. The room was not a large double but was clean and comfortable and serviced every day. As its a family run hotel the service may not always appear 'corporate' but our experience at the residents bar and restaurant was consistently good and friendly. Would definitely revisit. The location is perfect for the harbour, town and Berry Head.
This hotel is unique. Yes it has its faults but the positives out way the negatives. Breakfast is good but make sure you clearly state what you want. Didn’t eat in restaurant in evening but ate next door which is run by the same people and it was good. Room was small, shower dreadful but maybe water pressure struggling at such a height. Bar open in the evening, good atmosphere and attentive staff. Special mention to Earl who definitely makes up for all the negatives as he’s a star and cannot do enough for you. Yes the car park is a hike but if you’re staying around Brixham you don’t have to do the hike very often. Would definitely stay again but please keep Earl forever as he makes this hotel what it is.
The Quayside overlooks Lyme Bay and is a short walk to Brixham town centre, the Marina and beautiful coastal paths. Public areas include a comfortable lounge, an intimate and award winning restaurant, a cosy …Moreresident's bar and a traditional public bar with great bar food. Full of character and charm, the hotel has been expertly developed from 6 period fisherman's cottages. Enjoy the atmosphere, but don't get lost in the quirky corridors and winding stairs that make our friendly Hotel so distinctive. Wi Fi Internet access is available throughout the Hotel and we have a free private car park approx 350 yards from the hotel. Less
