My wife and I stayed overnight after a weekend in Birr, which is just the other side of the Slieve Bloom mountains. Unfortunately we didn't have time to explore the grounds or further afield from the house, but the 18th century house is charming, our bedroom was large and comfortable, and Paddy's cooking superb. Eating here is redolent of a...

This was our return to Roundwood after a first visit in 2014 - this is truly the quintessential Irish Country House Hotel experience. A wonderful old (circa 1740) Georgian home, gracious and fun hosts and staff (thank you Hannah, Paddy, Lucy, Amelie and all the staff), a friendly welcome from a happy to see you dog, and more. Large comfortable...

There is a real honesty and generosity about Roundwood House. Paddy, Hannah and colleagues really care about the experience they offer...they work hard and it shows in what they provide. The accommodation, food and drawing rooms are all top notch (with the lovely idiosyncrasies of a very old house). The meat eaters and one vegetarian all loved the food (breakfast,...

My wife and I went to Roundwood House for a very small, intimate wedding. The accommodation is beautifully rustic and the grounds offer a stunning but manageable 1km walk which won't tax older people or the very young. I slept a lot this weekend; it's the perfect place to unwind. The hosts are very thoughtful and attentive. The food is...

Didn't imagine I would end up playing board games in the sitting room with 10 strangers of all ages and different nationalities. We certainly were not strangers by the end of the night. Plied with excellent food and wine by our welcoming hosts, the night was full of laughter and excellent conversation. The house has fantastic grounds and outbuildings that...

In a book I read long ago there is reference to a house which may or may not be Roundwood House. Recently, researching overnight lodging to break a journey somewhere roughly midway between my home in West Cork and a venue in Carrick on Shannon, Roundwood House manifested among my choices. I booked a room for one night. Whether or...

Wow. If you're up for staying in a low key, lived-in Georgian mansion that has been lived in by the same family for a few generations, and you're up for a dog, some geese, a couple of lovely kids, then this is the place for you. Also, as has been said before, the food is exceptional. It was the best...

Stayed 1 night in a room in the main house and enjoyed our delicious evening meal with other house guests at one large table. Excellent company. Lovely house. Probably the best meal I have ever eaten. The food alone will bring us back!

When you say "probably" what exactly do you mean? Okay, kidding aside, Paddy says thanks a million for that incredibly high accolade :-) Hannah

Had a fantastic stay on the weekend just past. Our second time eating here but first in residence. I just love the laid-back nature of the place, the warm family welcome and the uniqueness of the surrounds. History in every corner. Paddy and Hannah make you feel right at home from the minute you see the front door. Dinner was...

My husbands family and I recently visited Roundwood house for my mother in law's 80th birthday. On arrival we were greeted warmly by Hannah and shown to our beautiful room in the lodge. We then had tea and freshly made scones in the library, a restored barn with a fantastic mezzanine level and wall to wall books. Paddy even set...
