No wi-fi, no problem, when you are staying in a building that dates back as far as 1430. My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and wanted a night away from all the 'noise'. Clomantagh Castle certainly is for those looking to escape it all. We were charmed on arrival, opening the many gates that led us up...

Lovely stay, cosy kitchen and welcoming bedrooms. The grounds were also nice to explore and it was a good base to explore the area around Kilkenny. The only quibble I would have is that they didn't put the heat on before we arrived and it was cold, it was fine by the next day. The bathroom facilities are also basic.

We travelled here for a family Christmas with members of both sides of the family. We prepared a number of meals in the well equipped kitchen (though cooking with a Rayburn took the chefs a little getting used to😊). It was a simply wonderful secluded retreat. The area surrounding the castle is very pretty and the restoration job was sensitively...

Thank you Conal for taking the time to review your Christmas stay at Clomantagh. We are delighted to hear that you had a nice time and that both sides of the family had an enjoyable Christmas. I am happy that cooking went well and I hope that you got a chance to try out the gravey I was telling Sarah...

We stayed here at the weekend 01/11/13 as a group of 10 adults. The place was absolutely beautiful, the facilities were Excellent & was great value for money. Myself & my husband stayed in the double bedroom in the Tower & the bed linen was 5* quality and view from the window was priceless. The Rayburn was perfect for one...

We (a group of 8 adults, 3 toddlers, and 3 babies) stayed for two nights in Clonmantagh Castle and really enjoyed it. Getting keys was arranged simply and informally, it was warm and bright. The kids had brought plenty of toys and had loads of room to run around. We got to sit about in the big living room after...

Stayed here with 10 friends and our 5 young children. Had a blast. Spookey old house (supposed to be haunted!) but great to relax. Range in the kitchen, and wood burning stove and fire in the living rooms. No phone signal either so just tune out the world.

We accidentally found Clomantagh Castle last August. We were driving home from Kilkenny when we saw a bloke on the road holding a sword in a Crusader outfit directing people towards the castle. How lucky we were, its only open to public one day a yr. Anyway we loved it and decided to book and boy we are so glad...

Clomantagh Castle is a charismatic and charming place to stay. The accommodation consists of an enormous kitchen in the bottom of the tower, and a large sitting room, with a smaller cosy room off the sitting room. There are numerous bedrooms and bathrooms. Our hostess gave us a very warm and friendly welcome. Her hospitality and playfulness with the children...

Just back from spending a weekend at Clomantagh Castle - great fun. The castle is very well equiped and the good thing we had to make our own fun as there is no TV. I would highly recommend it. The rooms are all different but have alot of character. The house is warm and clean and it is a good...

I just want to echo what most of the other reviewers have written. The castle has been restored to a condition that is so cozy and comfortable one could easily picture oneself living there. I grew up in a house not dissimilar to this hwoever my own family home was often cold and lacked the modern comforts. If I could say...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Clomantagh Castle is part of a unique settlement dating back to the 1500s. It has remained in continuous occupation for almost 500 years. At one time there would have been a large banqueting hall attached to the tower house but this has long disappeared, and now replaced by a Victorian farmhouse. There is a wonderful deep-walled kitchen in the ground floor of the tower house, reminiscent of a Tuscan farmhouse and complete with a flag stone floor. An old farm dresser, a country kitchen range and a large table fill this high vaulted kitchen. The farmhouse parlour has a strong Irish vernacular theme with rich orange tones and lovingly restored sash windows.A medieval theme carries through the tower house to the turret stone stair case leading to the main bedroom in the tower. The cast iron four poster bed makes a perfect setting for any 'king' or 'queen' of the castle. ... more   less
