This B & B is simply fabulous for so many reasons. The owners, Melanie and Dave are exceptional hosts who are interesting, intelligent and thoughtful. They are warm hosts who make you comfortable from the moment that you enter their establishment. Word of warning, DO NOT RELY ON YOUR NAVIGATION system! It will lead you down a neighbour’s very long and nasty driveway, look for the road sign that says Johnson Shore Inn.
They have a rather grand room on the ground floor with a large dining table, a living room area surrounding a beautiful fireplace and another area with 2 person tables. They provide a refrigerator with drinks and an ice machine, an extensive collection of teas, coffee and hot chocolate at all times. Upstairs there are perhaps 10 guest rooms, all with en suite bathrooms and each one has a view. We were very lucky to stay in room 9 which is a corner room with a lovely breeze and spectacular views of the ocean and red cliffs. The rooms are spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, roomy and comfortable. Breakfasts are delicious and hearty making lunch optional even on busy days. We chose to eat our dinners at the B & B and we were very pleased with ourselves for doing so. The dinners were wonderful, delicious, generous and thoughtfully prepared. We brought our own wine but that isn’t necessary as they also provide wine. Mel is an award winning pie maker and we know why! We spent a few delightful evenings conversing with our hosts and their funny and lovely dog Jonesy. This place has it all and we will return to enjoy it and these wonderful hosts another day.

The Johnson Shore Inn is a lovely bed and breakfast, but you will be missing out if you don't make it bed and breakfast and dinner, too.
Mel and Dave (as other reviewers have mentioned) are talented cooks who have restaurant experience. We so enjoyed this spot (splurge for one of the corner rooms) and though it feels like a remote location, it was an easy 15-20 minute drive to St. Peters Bay to rent bikes and spend a day biking on the Confederation Trail.
It's such a friendly atmosphere and we not only enjoyed talking with Mel and Dave but also all the other guests we met and ate meals with.

We stayed on the second floor “sunrise” corner room. Incredible views of the east end northern cliffs and beaches plus sunrise.
The inn’s location is down a 1km dirt driveway, so it’s a little tricky if it’s been raining; but the end it opens upon the wide open huge grass lawn that surrounds the inn, perched safely near the cliffs.
Delicious multi-course breakfast at this B&B. Dinners (supper in this part of the woods) are extra for guests only by reservation. (They owners claim they don’t run a restaurant, just like to cook. ) Lots of good food and worth the (higher than average) price. Tip: if not eating supper at the inn, plan on getting food at the end of the day while out exploring the central and east end of PEI before heading back; there isn’t any dining options nearby.

Mel and Dave are special people. They invite perfect strangers into their home and make you feel like long lost friends by the time you leave. The community space in the inn is very open with views of the Prince Edward Island shore from every window. We were in Room 10 on the second floor. It afforded us a view of the sunset and greeted with a sunrise each morning. Breakfast is included and Dave serves up perfectly prepared eggs. There are healthy choices available as well. Dinner is available each night for guests of the inn. Mel takes over the kitchen for dinner and prepares a 3 course meal - salad , entrée, and dessert. The food is cooked with love and tastes great. The inn currently does not have air conditioning but there is a constant breeze and each room has a ceiling fan so it was comfortable for sleeping. Our room was freshened up each day that we were there - the bed was made and towels were replaced. This is such a treat. Dave and Mel are very knowledgeable about PEI and don't mind sharing their knowledge to help make the most of your time on PEI. Thank you Dave and Mel for an unforgettable 8 days and give Mr. Jones a hug for us.

We stayed three wonderful nights at the inn where we were greeted by the most hospitable inn keepers we have ever experienced. Mel and Dave immediately made us feel welcome and opened up all the communal space for our enjoyment, including tea and coffee and snacks any time of the day and evening. We were able to enjoy delicious home cooked suppers every evening, once we let Mel know by noon, including a full lobster feast! Breakfasts were made to order by Dave and nothing was too much trouble. One evening a guest played guitar and we all sat around singing some golden oldies with a glass of wine. Our very spacious Room #12 gave a full vista of the red cliffs and ocean with spectacular sunsets. The bed and pillows were conducive to restful sleep. The peacefulness to be found at the end of the long driveway was worth every bump along the way. We can definitely rate this experience as a full 10+ and will not hesitate to return as soon as we can. THANKS for everything Mellanie and Dave. The Bacons

Do not be put off by your first sight of the drive way to Johnson Shore Inn. It is worth driving. Mel and Dave (the owners) are welcoming and wonderful and the setting can't be beat.
We did a walk along the bluffs both in the evening and in the morning and it was amazing. The red rock bluffs, with the waves crashing below and the view out into the Gulf. We both walked along the top and scrambling over the rocks on the beach. Admittedly, the wind off the ocean was chilly (it was still early May) but you dress for it.
And Mel & Dave served us a lobster supper (extra cost, of course), which they ate with us and 2 other guests at the same table (we could have had our own table, if we had wanted). It included a lesson on how to eat a whole lobster and lots of local information.
One note - this is a rural location, which is part of its charm. But, if you really need something, nothing is really that far away on PEI.
In all, the stay way exceeded our expectations.

My wife and I stayed for two nights during our honeymoon trip touring PEI. The east side of the island where in the inn resides is the more scenic part of PEI, and you'll find some of the best views right in the backyard of Johnson Shore Inn. One of our most memorable moments from the entire trip was watching the sun set over the water right from our room.
Breakfasts were simple fare and quite yummy. Conveniently, Mellanie and Dave can also cook you dinner if you notify them by midmorning.
One tip: bring strong bug repellent if you plan to visit over the summer. There are mosquitos and such hanging around the grounds.

Amazing setting, great hospitality, very clean, great resident dog. Dinner provided for $$; breakfast may be complimentary. Ample wine. Food is excellent, not skimpy. Driveway ~1.2 km long and unpaved. Would stay there again. Good for R&R, peace and quiet.

We stayed at the Johnson Shore Inn for 3 nights in mid-September. It was absolutely wonderful!
We loved how remote the location is and how the Inn sits alone overlooking the red cliffs. The views are spectacular.
We enjoyed walking/hiking the trails around the Inn that border the ocean. And it’s only a short drive to the Confederation Trail where we biked.
Mellanie and Dave are amazing hosts. The full breakfasts and the excellent dinners were absolutely delicious.
We appreciated how clean our bedroom and bathroom were.
We will definitely return.

Yes it was wonderful and most notably what took my breath away was to wake and glance toward the window to see the sunrise in the clear blue sky over the water. I was mesmerized! The Inn is a beautiful setting, surrounded by water on three sides. The room was very comfortable but of course it was the lively and engaging banter with the great hosts Mel and Dave that made the trip so memorable. I had dinner which was simply easier than leaving to go elsewhere. I loved the salmon and lintels main course. Mel revelaed that the secret ingredient that was so appealing was the thyme! A wonderful stay to a wonderful place with wonderful hosts.

If you were only going to PEI, then Charlottetown airport is perfect. We saw a bit of NB as well & wanted to cross the confederation bridge... so used Moncton. East coast -light house, Souris area, North Point even Cavendish & Charlottetown are all easily accessable from the inn. We were there in Sept & 'tourist' season was over. Would eat at St Peters, Naufrage, or Souris but Meals at Johnson were outstanding & you could not find better hospitality & scenery.
The lawn chairs are being painted and set this weekend. There are some mosquitos but we also have lots of Swallows. So, other than a calm dusk, sure you can.
