The Dayton House Resort garners accolades for its friendly staff and prime beachfront location, with the atmosphere often described as inviting, underscored by enjoyable music. While its amenities, including pools, hot tubs, and complimentary breakfast, are a hit among guests, some feel the rooms fall short, citing a need for updates and improved cleanliness.
Opinions on value are split; many guests find the resort affordable, yet others question the cost given their experiences. Despite this, the resort's overall service and location continue to draw travelers.

Detailed Reviews
This was my third visit to Dayton House over a period of about 18 years since we our first trip to Myrtle Beach ever. I visited in 2018 right after the South Building was renovated, a big reason for staying then. The big draw is the zero entry pool with handrails perfect for little ones and older people like my father making it easy to get in and out. The other draw is DH has one of the best (if not the best) large grassy lawns on the beach with plenty of tables, umbrellas and seating. This trip my husband and I were here celebrating our 30th anniversary. We enjoyed the large hot tubs (2), Yella Umbrella poolside snack bar and pool. Our room 449 was a king angle oceanview on the south corner with a wrap balcony the overlooked the street and the south side public parking. The downfall of this location is there are port-a-john's directly below which, when the wind blows right, you can smell. The room was spacious and we liked the extra light from having windows on both sides. We only had housekeeping come in twice during our stay, but the staff were all very nice and helpful. I think reservations are centralized now. We arrived a day earlier than planned and called to see if we could get in our room a day early or at least get a different room for one night, but Richard informed me we would have to modify our entire reservation and keep the new room the entire week. This made no sense to me as I have to believe if someone came in for one night only and a room was available that a separate reservation could be opened for one night. Having been on the road and not wanting to bother, we stayed elsewhere that first night in town. We do really like this resort and hope to stay again.

Millburymom, it means a great deal to us that you have trusted our property with your beach vacations on three separate occasions. Thank you. We are glad that you all enjoyed another great holiday, and appreciate that you mentioned the updates that have been occurring over the last four to five years. As of spring 2020 every single unit has been provided extensive updates or hefty improvements. We are sorry that you could not be accommodated with a night at the beginning of your stay and grateful that you hope to visit with us a fourth time. Please know that we would love for you to return!

We were in MB for a robotics competition that was being held at the MB Convention Center, only 1/2 mile away. This location was very convenient because of this. THe room was clean, but was just a typical room at the beach. We had the 1 br queen and a pull down bed in the LR.
The kitchen was nice to have, but was VERY lacking in dishes/cookware. I think there were just 3 pans for the stove top, nothing for the oven, and very few cooking utensils. There were only 3 forks and 1 sharp knife and a few spoons. So grab some plastic ware from the breakfast if you need more than you have in your room. Luckily I had brought disposable pans to cook in so I wouldn't have to do as many dishes. Coffee mugs were very small and the coffee pot is a small one (I think 4 cup maybe). So if you bring your own coffee, be sure to bring small filters.
Shower was a good size, but the water pressure was not good and the shower head was pretty small. It did the job, but was as nice as many showers in hotels I have stayed in.
The workers were all pretty friendly, with the exception of 1 and I think she was just having a bad day.
The breakfast was really good, the stewed tomatoes were delicious. It was nice to not have to provide our own breakfast or worry about where we would go to get something to eat.
We did not use the pools or other amenities, but the tables and patio chairs looked like a nice place to relax if you had nicer weather than we had.
The worst thing was parking. WE did not have any issues except the parking garage was VERY small and we did scrap bottom when we went up one ramp, so we ended up parking in the parking area between the hotels that was free until March 1st. I don't know where they put all the cars when it is busy season.
Lastly, our room was right by the elevators and on the weekend it got pretty busy and you could def hear the dinging of the elevator. This was not an issue for us during the week when it was not busy, but during busy times this could be annoying.

The Dayton House crew hopes that you and your robotics team placed well in the recent competition. Thank you drbaker1994 for choosing our property for accommodations during your visit. We are thrilled to read that the daily hot breakfast provided was such a convenience for you and your group. Should you experience a need during your stay, please make the guest services team aware. As with your example regarding cookware, we are happy to provide additional pieces to ensure you are able to prepare a larger meal. Each visitor will arrive with slightly different requirements and we like to be prepared for those eventualities. We apologize that parking led to confusion. The registration team provides a property map, at check-in, which details all of the areas in which a guest can park. The various parking lots and garages are all marked with blue and white signage displaying the property name. Additionally, you are always welcome to ask a member of the team for assistance. They can point you in the direction of the most convenient area, or delve further by locating a space for you. Again, we are grateful for the opportunity to have served and invite you to return. Competition, vacation, or just because; the beach can make it better.

We booked a room on Priceline for an oceanview king suite. When we arrived we had been upgraded to an oceanfront king suite. We gave a credit card for the resort fee which we knew about prior to booking. The suites building was separate from the building where you check in so we had to (for convenience) move our car to the parking garage under the suites building. Parking structure could use some work as pipes were sticking out and it was pretty dark in there which felt a bit unsafe.
It was easy to get to our room, taking the elevator from the floor we parked on up to the 11th floor. Room was clean and spacious. There was a king bed with oceanview and a TV. You go through a hallway which doubled as the kitchen with a full size refrigerator, sink, stove, and microwave. The bathroom is off the kitchen area with the sink around separated from the bath/shower and toilet by a door. My complaint here is that it is very tight with the main bathroom door. In order to get into the toilet and bath/shower room, you basically have to close the door. Not a big deal but in the middle of the night without a light on, it is annoying. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Our toilet did tend to run so we had to jiggle the handle in order to make it stop.
There was an additional room with a sofa and a pull down bed (that we did not use). There was also a table with 2 chairs and a large TV. This leads to the balcony with a pretty good oceanfront view. There is a drain pipe in front of this building where rainwater comes out and the seagulls and pigeons love to congregate in this area. The lazy river was closed (it was January), but the indoor pool was open. Small but warm. There are plenty of chairs set up outside if you want to relax.
Breakfast was included in the price and was a nice buffet. You check in at the front with your room number and name. There was a make your own waffle station, and 2 very nice gentlemen serving items on the buffet. When we stayed it was hard boiled eggs, yogurt, eggs, grits with and without cheese, bacon, muffins, potatoes, and biscuits and gravy. Several types of juices, coffee, and other drinks and cereals. Hostesses were friendly and seemed to enjoy getting to know guests. Price for a January visit were excellent for what we received. Will stay again if we are in the area.

I have stayed here a few times, about 10-11 years ago and then in September 2020. We have always been in the suites building. I know DH is an older resort, so I dont fault them for that. the kitchen updated appliances are nice. The staff is friendly, the grounds are beautifully kept. Our room this time however was a different story. It was downright dirty. Baseboards with a layer or dirt and dust, carpet so-so, behind the murphy bed was dirty and gross. A moldy, mildew smell fro the A/C. We let the front desk know about the A/C and maintenance came and washed the front panel and sprayed a deodorizer in the room, that helped some. Then we had roaches join our vacation. Again we let the front desk know, about the bugs and the lack of cleanliness, they were apologetic and sent someone to spray the room. But we cut our trip short. We had had enough. It is hard to sleep in a dirty room and bugs too.
We have always loved Dayton House and it holds a lot of memories. But for us to return we will need to see some stellar reviews.
I've heard the management has changed and maybe that is what the problem is, either way, The cleaning policy has to be dealt with, especially during Covid-19 pandemic, I expected more (not less).
It made me very sad to have to write this review.

SRDSammy00, thank you for opting to stay with the Dayton House over the years. We are truly sorry to read that the housekeeping services provided during this trip differed from those during previous stays. Beginning in late 2017 our ownership and management invested millions of dollars in updates and improvements to the five different guest buildings (North, Middle, South, Suites and West). Our goal was to offer long time patrons and new visitors a refresh experience. Though grateful that our team responded to your requests for assistance, we regret that your expectation was not fully met from the start. Please know that the property receives regular monthly treatments from a reputable and nationally recognized pest service provider. The Orkin team will gladly dispatch a technician in the event that additional service is needed. The guest services team will also work on relocation should inventory permits. Additionally, our on-site team will assist in any way they can to rectify the matter and bring you piece of mind. We truly hope that you will consider the Dayton House when traveling to the South Carolina coast again. Our ownership is still the same, and many of the faces you encountered ten years ago are still present today. Our folks have taken good care of you in the past and helped to provide you with an atmosphere perfect for building noteworthy vacation memories and they will work to restore your faith in our property. Thank you once more for your patronage and for sharing those experiences you feel would benefit from change.

We enjoyed our stay in the suites building. Love the view and all the pools. Food at the bar by the pool was good. Kids loved the homemade chips. We also enjoyed playing cornhole. We never had a problem finding parking in the garage attached to the suites building and we left multiple times. It was nice that the SkyWheel/boardwalk was in walking distance. We all enjoyed the free breakfast and didn’t mind it was in another building. We actually liked it more because it got us up and moving and we would walk the beach after instead of laying around the room letting the day go by. The breakfast was similar everyday. Fruit changes daily and sometimes there was muffins or biscuits, sausage or bacon along with eggs and waffles and French toast sticks. Our room was not ready when we arrived at 4:30 but they did give us our bracelets so we could use the pools and showed us where the bathrooms were. We didn’t wait long though. We walked around to check out all the pools and then walked down to the beach. We then decided to sit down at one of the tables and find a place for dinner while we wait but noticed we had a missed call and it was the front desk saying our room was ready. It was 5:15 when we noticed the missed call. Front desk staff was friendly. Housekeeping came by everyday and took out trash and replaced towels. They would also ask if we needed anything else like toilet paper or blankets. There are no towels for the beach or pool but we brought our own. We ended up not needing them. It was so hot that by the time the kids got out of the pool they were dry in two minutes. The full kitchen was great. We made our own lunch everyday and went out for dinner. Never seen any bugs in our room but we could smell people smoking while on the balcony. I brought an air purifier and air fresheners and never smelled smoke in the room.

Our resort has served beach loving families for more than six decades Nicole B, and we appreciate that your family decided to stay. Thank you for letting us know that you all enjoyed a great experience. Your detailed account is testament to our teams dedication to friendly, personal service. Check-in begins daily at 4:00 pm and may be any time after this, depedent on business levels. In the event that travelers arrive before check-in, they may stop by guest services. Here, our folks can complete prelimenary paperwork, issue parking passes and pool wristbands. For a speedier process, it is advised that folks bring their photo ID, credit card and license plate numbers with them at registration. Patrons are permitted to use the pools and other amenties until it is time for check-in. Pool and beach towels are not provided by the resort, however, affordable options are available at nearby businesses. The guest service team will happily provide recommendations and directions. Or, like you, folks are encouraged to bring their own beach accessories. We are pleased that you all made time for the pool and poolside bar. The Dayton House offers an array of water amenities, and after a long day by the pool it is great to be able to grab a convenient cold beverage or some lunch. We again thank you for being our guest and for sharing the experience. Our team also looks forward to next opportunity to serve your family.

We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children under 8). We stayed here August 2021.
Dayton House is a good location for the kids and being close to the beach and Myrtle Beach tourists spots. It is not a high end resort with many of the bells and whistles. Yet, is was an affordable option which allowed us to have a great time. The best parts of the trip; friendly staff and great oceanfront location. Worst parts of the trip; carpet in the rooms with a terrible smell and older building with many updates needed.
Pros
oceanfront view, nice sized balcony, friendly staff (maintenance came to my room very quickly for a minor need), honored my lower floor request, elevators not very crowded, grass area with yellow tables was very attractive and plentiful, room size was expected as advertised, murphy bed was very convenient, beds were clean and comfortable, shower was very clean with a light in the shower, outdoor amenities were as advertised and great for my kids, kitchen was updated and very convenient, breakfast was plentiful
Cons
Room smelled very bad probably due to the carpet in the room (stale and urine odor), when sitting on the outside balcony terrible smell when the ac unit kicked on - the smell was so bad that it turned my stomach, ac was very loud when sitting on the balcony, the buildings and rooms did not seem very renovated like advertised (the most updated areas were the kitchen and bathroom), parking in the suites building was limited (only 3 levels of parking), parking garage in the suites building very low clearance (this was advertised with a sign in the garage), there were a large variety of parking areas, yet many were uncovered and not very close to the suites building (I prefer covered parking and very close to the building)
I did report the bad smell of the room to the front desk staff. They did offer to have housekeeping come to check it out or to move my room if needed. I decided not to change rooms due to already being settled in with two young kids and an elderly person. We spent most of the time out of the room and left the door to the balcony open to help with the smell.

FamilyTripAug, we appreciate your choice of the Dayton House while vacationing with family in Myrtle Beach. Additionally, we thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for providing recommendations based on your need. Many patrons share with us that they love the central location of the resort. We are situated closely to many of the attractions and amusements folks enjoy, but not so close as to deminish enjoyment. Based on your recollections, it would seem that the kids made thorough us of the plentiful water amenities and large oceanfront tanning lawn. Beach vacation fun can be found in every direction. Please know that our guest service, maintence, houskeeping and food and beverage crews are at your service. These folks will work to address any item that is brought to their attention. We genuinely want visitors to immerse themelseves in a stress free environment. Our resort and its various teams have served families for more than six decades. It is our hope that your family will visit with us again and that we will help you all to build lifelong, positive memories. Thank you all for being our guests!

We booked the Dayton House for our first visit to Myrtle Beach. We were charged and extra $67.50 labeled a "resort fee". When we got to our room the door was not locked. The carpet felt damp, the kitchenette and bathroom floor was dirty and the drapes were falling off the track. We called the front desk to report the drapes. They didn't come take care of it. After no room services like cleaning and towel replacement after 3 days, we called and asked for fresh towels and some toilet paper. Again no service! The location to the beach is good but this hotel is in need of some serious repair and updates as well as attention to servicing the people that are staying in the place.

The check in wasn’t pleasant. I had booked it through Groupon and the details clearly stated that the rate was good for up to 6 adults and that kids stayed free. The very rude and contemptuous receptionist (middle-aged white male on the last window) charged me extra for my 8 year old. He then gave me one less armband, when I went back to ask, he didn’t accept it and charged me another $10! The breakfast was smelly, frozen boiled eggs, disorganized staff and just two options. We ended up not taking the breakfast despite the fact that it was included in the room rate. The rooms are smelly, the bathrooms are dated and there were cockroaches in the room (see pic!). Bottom line: don’t go there and look for something better.

We also regret that you were not made to feel welcome and appreciated at check-in. Hospitality is a staple of our property and it is disappointing to read details of your encounter. Thank you for making us aware of your experience at the Rose Room, and we wish that breakfast had been better suited to your individual taste. Whenever possible our food and beverage associates will work to accommodate special dietary needs. In the event that no option is found, they will happily recommend alternative dining establishments. Please know that our property receives regular monthly treatments by a nationally recognized and reputable pest elimination service. In the event that additional attention is needed, Orkin with dispatch a technician to address the matter. Our in-house team is also happy to provide you with more immediate attention should it be needed. Thank you once more for being our guest and for taking the time to share aspects of the visit you feel would benefit from improvement. 2020 marks our sixtieth year in service to beach goers, and we continually discover new ways to provide patrons with the things they enjoy most. Stayed at this property 4 years ago for Christmas it is typically very affordable. It is older with some upgrades but in need of more maintenance and better housekeeping. This was a last minute Christmas getaway checked in Dec 23rd was informed I had been upgraded to a suite. Pleasant surprise!!! Room appeared clean but bathroom had at least 20 visible pieces of hair in and around the tub. Disgusting housekeeping must be using there same rag for everything, because when I looked in the refrigerator the same hair everywhere. Housekeeping needs better training even if it is an older property it should still be clean. Called front desk but she said no one could come clean the room she could move me but with 2 young kids I declined. The highlight of our stay Mrs. Brenda and the breakfast staff. I appreciated breakfast was included in the stay it was one of the reasons I selected the property, but everyone at breakfast went above and beyond to offer fresh hot tasty food and accommodate young kids.

Excellent place with Amazing Amenities and beautiful ocean views. Loved the suites. Newly painted and redone. New beds/matresses, furniture, updated kitchen complete with full size fridge and stove and bathrooms were clean and newly tiled.. So much to see and do. Loved the pools, hot tub, and lazy river. The suites are the way to go for the best views. Living room is very spacious, love the large balcony to sit and look at the ocean. The Yella Umbrella had great food at affordable prices. Loved the mixed drink selection available. I would suggest the beach bum 😀 the breakfast hall across the street was a huge bonus. Newly aquired and updated. Great choices for everyone from fruit to waffles. Scrambled eggs, sausage and grits were served daily along with other daily options. Coffee, milk, and juice was also included. The water was very good so no bottled water is needed, and i am very picky when it comes to my water. We ate dinner out each night but you could cook instead to save money. Suggestion is to eat early or very late or you will wait up to 2 hours for a table. The board walk is so much fun. Weekends usually have free bands. The parking is very good at the resort. The elevators are a bit slow. Teh staff was friendly and very helpful. 100% recommend this place.

No I think they both would be similar. I think we stayed in the north tower. Parking is a bit of a complication bit not horrible. The parking lot is across the street and minimal nearby parking spots directly in front of main entrance.
In-room coffee makers are the standard variety.
Beach towels were not provided and bath towels were insufficient (in quantity and quality). We had to go to Walmart to buy bath towels that were capable of absorbing water and they wouldn’t send housekeeping (because they don’t have it) to rectify the incorrect number of towels provided. We stayed in a “suite” with 3 beds and they would only give us two towels daily.
