We're snowbirds who have been coming to GCB for over 15 years. We've stayed at Atalaya Towers once before, but rented through a local realtor. This time we're renting through Defender Resorts, the time-share agency here and it's an entirely different experience. When we arrived...More
View from the 6th floor was beautiful-falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the waves was wonderful!
Roomy layout with the kitchen, dining and living areas all open.
Nice touch in the Welcome Basket that contained “starter” items like a pack of detergent,...More
I have never stayed at a property so convenient to the ocean. When traveling with a bigger group and there are lots of chairs, umbrellas, kids toys, etc. the trek to the beach is dreadful. At Atalaya Towers as soon as you step off of...More
Great place for a family vacation. Plenty of space for eating in or going out. Be prepared for really heavy traffic in the summer. The traffic is particularly heavy around Murrells Inlet; if possible avoid Mothers Day Weekend which is bikers week in Murrells Inlet,...More

We were there over the 4th. There is so much competition for tourists $$ that we didn't have to wait anywhere. Sometimes there are issues at certain restaurants (like Drunken Jacks), but we just went to those places for lunch instead of dinner and had no wait. The fireworks are non-stop down the beach on the 4th, plus you get some incredible fly-bys from the air force. It fireworks stop by midnight so you aren't kept up all night. It's hot, but worth it. We have gone at various times of year, and each hold good and bad features, but the 4th of July is pretty cool!

There's plenty to do in the area! There's a water park (I'm sorry I can't remember the name) less than a 5 minute drive away. There's multiple putt putt places and a bowling alley on the main drag. Down by the pier are several beach shops, snack shacks, an arcade, and a few rides.
