This 18th-century-style B & B is charming and quiet, filled with period antiques. We were glad that Shelter Harbor Inn is nearby for dinner, as were were travel-weary. Hostess Ellen went above-and-beyond to help us locate a tiny, obscure family cemetery where my husband's ancestors are buried. This delightful person in her beautiful home is just a few minutes from... More

Having fallen in love with this little slice of the northeast (southern Rhode Island), my partner and I jogged up from NYC for Columbus Day weekend. While we love the beach, we thought we'd stay a little farther out and enjoy the coolness and early colors of fall. We weren't disappointed. We arrived after a lovely dinner in nearby Stonington... We were delighted with our stay at Woody Hill. Our room and bathroom were clean, beds comfortable and breakfast delicious. Ellen, the proprietor, was charming, friendly and welcoming. In spite of a very cold rainy weekend we were warm and cozy. Would definitely return!

Truly enjoyed a relaxing evening hosted by Ellen & her feline sidekick Jenny. We had a beautiful sunset view from the balcony, & when it got chilly Ellen was kind enough to set a beautiful fire with wood from her property in the sitting room. Perfect amount of privacy & companionship. Thanks for a wonderful impromptu stay!

This is a beautiful historic home located in a quiet wooded area on several acres. The pool is just wonderful, as it was very hot each day, we thoroughly enjoyed cooling off. The Family Suite was large and had a pleasant balcony and pretty canopy beds. The bathroom stall shower is very small...but again, the house is old. The Family... More

Our family met up at Woody Hill for an overnight and a hearth cooking lesson. The dinner was excellent. Easy lessons that were interesting and produced a great meal. The host was very kind and helpful, kept us moving along but allowed plenty of time to visit and enjoy our meal. The house is very nice, well built, nicely decorated.... More

My wife and I just returned from Wody Hill and were very happy with our choice. We could not find a room on Block Island so we chose to stay on the mainland. This was a wise decision because when we got to the island it was VERY crowded around Old Harbour where most of the Inns were located. Woody... More

Please understand I travel a great deal, I am not picky but I do require the basics from the places I stay. This B&B is lacking in many areas of the travellers needs. The entire house smells musty the smell reminds me of a cottage in the mountains. The smell I believe comes from the total absence of AC's and... More

My wife and I have journeyed to Westerly for the last 10 years, and each time we have thoroughly enjoyed staying at Ellen Madison's Woody Hill Bed & Breakfast in Westerly Rhode Island. The superb accomodations, delicious breakfast offerings and Ellen's hospitality make a weekend or a vacation at Woody Hill a most pleasant experience. The atmosphere is relaxed and... More

“The "Family" room seems to be a lovely room with a more recently update bathroom, fans over the beds, and a private second floor terrace. The Queen Anne has lovely views, but is more dated.”
