I do not know where to start, from the moldy coffee pot, the room that smelled like wet dog, the barking dog in the next room( not in the pet are of the hotel), rude staff upon check in that forgot our wedding gift bag, to the dog poop all outside the exit door. The overall stay was a disaster, however the wedding we were at was fabulous! Would NEVERrecommend this place to anyone.

Hotel's Favourite
We went 2 Newport for the long weekend and were looking for an affordable, but nice place to stay. This hotel was great and met all our needs. It was clean, comfortable, and close to all the places we visited. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The indoor pool/ hot tub was a great place for us to relax as the kids swam. We plan to return in the future.

I've stayed in many 5 star luxury properties worldwide and when I'm in Newport I usually stay at The Castle Hill Inn. CHI was booked so we quickly reserved Sonesta Select. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by Sonesta Select. The property is tucked beyond the main road so it offers privacy and great accessibility to everything to do in Newport. We were looking for a 'true' suite that had a physical separation between the bedroom and the living area and that is exactly what we got at Sonesta. The Superior Suite multiple beds with Patio had two queen beds in the Master and a double sleeper sofa in the living area. Quite a spacious unit for 4 people- The property previously a courtyard still offers great amenities. Indoor/outdoor pool with jacuzzi. 24 hour fitness center and most importantly responsive and attentive guest services. The hotel i a bit outdated but if you can look past the facade it is a clean and cozy property. You can easily drive 2-5 minutes down the street for casual dining options or drive another 10 minutes and you're in the heart of Old Newport for a night out. I never stayed at Sonesta Hotels before but I will now consider them next time we are thinking about Newport :) Cheers!

Recently hosted a wedding in Newport and had about 50 guests stay here. The staff was the best from Erin Felder to the front desk staff who helped with passing out the Welcome Bags, to setting up for an after the wedding breakfast. The facility was clean and great spaces for socializing with guests. The location was great for guests to get around for food and other incidentals and all within a 10 minute ride to Newport. I would definitely recommend the Sonesta Select!

After deciding to visit Newport RI for a few days, we started looking into hotels. There some fair 2.5-3-star hotels in the Warwick/Kingstown area which are reasonably priced, but staying there would involve about a 30-minute ride one-way in and out of Newport. Since all of our to-dos on the itinerary were in the Newport/Middletown area, we decided to try to get a hotel there. Now, there is a huge price difference between the two areas; a $150 per night in Warwick would be $300 in Middletown and $400+ in Newport. We settled on a few in the Middletown area which is only about a 10-15 minute drive into Newport/Wharf area. Of those few, the Sonesta consistently received above average-good reviews and was modestly-priced, given the location. The Sonesta is located off W. Main Road with lots of food, retail and fuel options. This is always helpful when you are traveling with a family. We arrived at about 3 pm on a Thursday and it was very quiet. I stopped off at the reception area and was quickly checked in within a few minutes. The front desk staff were very nice. As of this writing, face masks were required in all common areas, though I observed guests both masked and unmasked (50/50) in the common areas throughout our stay. We were advised of the closest entrance to our rooms. We drove around to that entrance, parked and entered our room after a short walk. The room was what I expected: typical 2.5-3-star accommodations. Pros: generally clean room, sufficient outlets, lots of lights, mini fridge, coffee maker but no cups, efficient temperature controls, convenient roll-out wheeled desk with chair. Cons: some grit in the bathroom corners, no microwave but communal microwave near ice maker (iffy call during COVID), beds seemed to be double beds and NOT queens, small flat screen tv seemed very outdated, no liners in any of the garbage cans, TV remote a bit frustrating (like many other hotels) I am not a fan of the separate toilet/tub from the sink/mirror, but I’ve seen this before in other hotels. Our biggest issue, like many other reviewers have mentioned, is the complete lack of room housekeeping. In our 3-day, 2-night stay, not only was our room not cleaned, but I did NOT see any housekeeping service in the halls throughout our entire stay! It wasn’t much of a problem for us as we reused towels and kept the room clean ourselves… but it was just very unusual. I’ve known other hotels to ONLY clean when requested in an effort to conserve water (washing sheets/towels) to be more eco-friendly but they usually announce that somewhere. There was NO indication or signs that this was their practice. My guess is that, like many businesses affected by COVID, especially hotels, they are very short staffed and simply cannot accommodate daily cleanings, though I may be wrong. But, since I observed very little staff throughout my entire stay, I believe this is the most probably cause. I don’t mind this…I just wish it was announced and the guests were notified. The Fitness Center was small with only two treadmills, an elliptical, a bike, free weights and a water/towel station, but enough for one or two people at a given time. The pool looked nice and ranged from 3-5 feet but we did not have a chance to visit. You can swim from the indoor pool section to the outdoor pool section, but this was blocked since the outdoor pool was closed at our time of visit. There is a small outdoor courtyard where most of the rooms face which contains the outdoor pool and a fire pit. I don’t know if it is lit regularly though. There are a few (older) arcade games near the tourist brochure section. Their free breakfast was grab-and-go style with coffee, juices, muffins, yogurt and a few other portable items. Check out was easy. Overall we had a good stay…I didn’t mind most of the “Cons” but the lack of available services and notification to the guests about those deficiencies can understandably be frustrating.

Jennifer was amazing! I recently stayed and booked a larger room then I needed. She was able to switch the room for me with no problem. The hotel was clean and adhering to COVID standards. Even though the hotel was about 10 - 15 minutes away from the Newport attractions, it served my families needs. We felt safer being away from the main crowds. Sonesta Select were previously Marriott Courtyard properties so the design of the hotel was pristine. The free Starbucks coffee every morning was an added plus.

Sadly, the change from Marriott to Sonesta during 2020 turned a great experience in 2019 into something really wanting. We felt terrible for the staff which was on a shoestring and just not able to do more. Room was not really worth the cost. No housekeeping. I had to go into the hotel's laundry facility to get towels and snuck into the supply room for soap. A real decline

This hotel should be inspected by the board of health. We checked into our room and needed to drop off our bags so we could make a reservation that we were late for. We returned late that evening, changed and went to sleep. The next morning we started to unpack only to realize that the room was never fully cleaned prior to check in. There were empty cans of beer in the trash cans, a used tea bag still in the coffee maker and a huge fly in the room. I went down to the front desk to complain and was told that the room was cleaned prior to us checking in. They said they would send housekeeping sometime that day. I went online and found another area hotel and made a reservation for that evening. I went to the front desk and advised them that we were not comfortable staying in that room nor any room in the hotel. Before I advised them of this situation, there was a woman in front of me making the same complaint to the hotel management. Management really didn't seem to care of either of our complaints. I called today and spoke to Cindy at the front desk. Cindy said she remembered speaking to me and denied that the woman in front of me was also complaining. Cindy also said that after we checked out they found trash in the room, but instead of acknowledging that the trash was there prior to us checking in, she accused US of making the mess. In all the years traveling, I have never encountered such a rude and unprofessional person being part of hotel management. WARNING: Stay away from this dirty, disgusting rudely run dump of a hotel. I gave this a 1 star rating only because you couldn't post without assigning at lease one star. What a joke.

I stayed at this Hotel for a girls trip July 4th weekend. At the end of the trip there was some confusion about how to apply cash at check and the rest on the card with a woman that was a bit older and not savvy (in her words). Wanted to apply part cash so i didnt have to carry it around for the day and the rest on the credit card on file. Not that hard in todays world bills are split everywhere!!!! anyway she even told the person behind me if you are asking for anything special to be done the answer is NO! WOW! Anyway minor task at check out. Needless to say I couldnt apply the cash. She put it on my card (debit) and in doing so she charged me an additional $300 for the 2-night stay. I called spoke with Cindy once said she would look into it and call back never did. Called several other times and spoke to Patty whom said she would call back twice and didnt. Said oh accounting isnt in today, I was off blah blah blah... bottom line my money was not important to her. Barely received an apology for this inconvenience and it took 9 days and after a call to Corporate for me to get my money back!! Unacceptable. "Sorry about this" was the only bit of an apology i received. Ridiculous. Rooms are the only good thing in this place, bathrooms are tight! no restaurant or bar and pool was not open. overpriced, inconvenienced and bad customer service across the board in my experience. Wasnt offered any type of anything for any of this. Wont be going back.

The price and location is attractive but the rooms (at least the 2 I’ve been in) smell like mold. Even spoke with the manager who said the smell was what they use to clean the carpet—have never smelled a cleaning product like that! Beds are uncomfortable, tv is small and oddly placed, hotel sign is still a banner on the side of the building. Sonesta doesn’t seem to be paying attention to the Sonesta Select Middletown so I suggest you do the same!
