Place is old, however it is comfortable, clean and quite. However watch out for the $25 buffet, we paid for at checkin only to find the next morning that the buffet was not operating, and the cook couldn’t even cook a pouched egg. Also they closed the bar at 9.05pm as we walked up to it, the close time is advertised as 9.30pm.
Not much of this style of accommodation about these days - about a century? old! It’s lovely to go back in time .... We enjoyed our attentive host, the open fire and the ambiance but most of all one of the finest meals ourselves and our 3 dinner guests have had in ages. Keep that chef happy - very good . The grounds are truly magical, as is the hotel itself and it's history. Unfortunately, there seems to be something off with the plumbing .... there was a stench of sewrage through the corridors in the upper levels. We had dinner at the hotel - the service was good but the food was terrible - my foccacia was stale, for example. The staff seem lovely and are doing their best, but whoever owns the hotel needs to do some plumbing and maintenance ASAP, and work on improving the quality of the food.
Lovely old historic hotel to stay in, ongoing restoration. Wonderful service by staff. We had a King deluxe room with own bathroom, beautiful large room, spacious. Heater in room but no air-conditioning. Comfortable beds and lovely soft white towels every day. Room serviced daily. Room was located on 2nd floor, so you will have to walk up 4 flights of stairs to get to the 2nd floor; not good for elderly. No lift available in this hotel. Breakfast was buffet style, lots of choices to choose from although a little expensive and lots of flies unfortunately hovering around the food. The cooked breakfast was cold unfortunately. Pool area was appreciated by all guests on the long weekend as Robertson was experiencing heatwave conditions. Dining room worth a meal here - very delicious. Cafe was also great offering good coffee and lovely delicious treats to savour. Lovely high ceilings in all rooms of hotel. Living Room was very popular with guests for pre-dinner drinks or after dinner for that nightcap. A nice bar area with plenty of seating is also available. Lovely gardens to walk around and the local geese and ducks roam the property during the day. Watch out for the geese they will chase the guests sometimes. Walk around the property and visit the disused Railway platform "Ranelagh House Station" and the meandering walk to get there. A beautiful hotel old world, thoroughly enjoyed our weekend there, would stay again.…
We went for dinner here last evening. The dining room, somewhat stark but beautiful, with enormously h igh ceilings and all white, was lovely. We were delighted to be seated by the fire as, despite it being summer, it was a cold night. The warmth and charm of all the staff is worth a mention. Then there was the food! DELICIOUS! All of it. I was not expecting anything like this high standard of cooking so don't delay and give this a try. You will be as pleased as we were. Garden and grounds lovely. Interesting decor and furniture.
