We stayed for one night Sunday 10th October. We were greeted by the host Barbara, she put us at ease & explained everything like to indicate breakfast choice on a sheet & leave in the hall. We were happy to complete as makes breakfast quicker than deciding in the morning. We ordered the fruit cocktail which was lovely fresh fruit including strawberries & raspberries we then had a full breakfast table service. Just like to say the room & Hotel was spotlessly clean. The bedroom had a balcony with chairs & a table we sat with our cuppa overlooking the beach & the sunset & sunrise from the balcony was fantastic. The kettle was fast we had tea bags & coffee with fresh milk in the fridge.
We saw a fantastic sunset & sunrise from the balcony.
There is nothing negative we can say about our stay at Penellen & Barbara was a lovely host & clearly works hard to make this hotel what it is.
A few photos to show the balcony, views & fruit for breakfast.

Where to start? With the beautiful rooms, stunning views, great facilities or wonderful hosts?
From our arrival our holiday was made perfect, greeted by Barbara on arrival we were shown our rooms which were absolutely perfect, modern and very well presented. We just couldn't fault them. The photos just don't do them justice. The beds are very comfortable and bathroom is spacious, clean and modern.
Breakfast in the morning was lovely with a wide selection of items available to choose. The cooked breakfast was a great start to the day with local ingredients making a nice touch.
One of the best parts of the stay was the view from our room. Staying in room 4, we had a juliet balcony with the view over the bay was beautiful and a pleasure to wake up to in the morning. The view stretches all the way over the bay to St Ives harbour and the island.
The Penellen also has a communal area facing the beach and overlooking the bay which made for amazing relaxing evenings.
We just can't fault the hosts or the property and will certainly be going again.

Ok, firstly I am a massive hotel snob and have never stayed in a b&b previously.. so my expectations were low initially. As soon as we parked up I was gobsmacked!! The location couldn’t be better.. the B&B sits overlooking Hayle Beach and every room as stunning sea views! The room was SPOTLESS (and I looked for flaws)! If I had to give feedback, I would just say that the toilet seat was loose, but that’s me really having to pick something! The shower was modern and super clean. Barbara and her husband make you feel so welcome and are full of advise on where to go. Breakfast was fab, I’m not a hot breakfast person, but my partner rated it highly! My very fussy son loved the berry bowl each day with a little box of cereal every morning. They offer 1 bottle of water per guest each day which is a lovely touch. There is ample parking for one car per guest outside.
The walk down to the beach is gorgeous too! Honestly, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else if I came to Hayle again and highly recommend to all! Thank you to Barbara, your husband and your lovely, gentle Dog, George 💕

We picked this B&B for the location and we were not disappointed. the views were beautiful from our room, and the location was central to where we wanted to be.
The room was absolutely spotless and very comfortable,
Our host's Barbara and Phil made you very welcome, and the full English Breakfast was delicious.
We are looking at booking a return visit as our stay was in a word breath-taking.

Me and my auntie have just enjoyed a wonderful two night stay here. The b&b has amazing views across Hayle beach, with very welcoming and attentive hosts. It was beautifully clean and felt like a home away from home, with lovely comfortable beds. We stayed in room 5 and fell asleep with our doors open, listening to the sounds of the ocean. We also enjoyed a lovely breakfast cooked by Barbara, with a great selection to choose from. And we got to meet George the German Shepard and loved her! Barbara and Paul even went out of their way to bring George outside so that I could say goodbye to her before we left for home. Overall, not a single bad comment and can't wait to come back again next time🐶

It’s a lovely b&b overlooking one of the UK’s best beaches. The owners were very friendly, room was very nice with amazing views of the beach and sea. Nice touch was the mini fridges in the rooms and fresh milk in a mini bottle which you could have topped up each day at breakfast time. Breakfast was nice, you do have to fill out an order form the night before. There’s a nice garden area with seats that you can use, we sat out one evening watching the sun set. They even re-froze our ice blocks for our cool box so we could take pasties back for our family. It’s the last year it’s being run as a b&b, I gathered, so if you want to go, get in quick. There are holiday apartments too, not our thing, but I imagine if they are, they’re just as nice as the b&b rooms. We had a really enjoyable stay there

Perfectly located with amazing views over St Ives bay. Just absolutely perfect we both enjoyed our stay at The Penellen.
Quiet location but not to far from anything.
The room was perfect separate WC to the shower room, French doors to s nice little balcony over the beach looking to St Ives.
The only criticism of the room is the pillows were too thin for us but apart from this absolutely spot on.
Lovely idea is the nibbles and drinks you can buy downstairs not to bad in price. Breakfast was wonderful very well cooked fresh each morning it actually is one of the best breakfasts we have had staying over night anywhere in Cornwall.
We were made to feel very welcome by a friendly host and this hotel is a credit to her. We will be staying again.

I specifically booked what I now know to be room 1 (double, front facing room with a balcony) via Booking.com. I paid £390.00 for 3 nights.
On The Penellen site this room, costs £375.00 for 3 nights.
On arrival I was given the key to Room 3. This room has a Juliette balcony and costs £345.00 for 3 nights. when I asked if there had been a mistake the owner said :
" Oh, Is this booking.com again? You've got the room you paid for".
his wife was apologetic, but he was dismissive. I contacted booking.com , who e.mailed the owner, but nothing was resolved.
According to Booking.com the problem lies with the owners.
Although the room number is not printed on my booking form It states clearly that the room comes with outdoor furniture. As it is the only double room with an outside balcony and that was the image I clicked on when I booked it, I had no reason to think otherwise.
For her part, Barbara was apologetic, but could not move us as the room was already booked.
I would not have booked room 3. We did not have the break we had envisaged. Instead of sitting looking out to sea and sipping drinks on our balcony, we had no adequate seating and a view of the car park! Granted , you can see the sea, but this was NOT the room we booked.
Barbara is exceptionally hard working and friendly, so I'm sorry to have rated her property so low.
Sadly, value for money is important to us and I feel that I was overcharged by £45.00.

I'm sorry but we totally refute this review. You booked room no 3 via Booking.com in February this year when room no 1 was already reserved and had been since November 2010 so you would have been unable to book it. As I explained to you we do not allocate rooms on arrival they are allocated at the time of booking. There is a difference in price between us and Booking.com as they charge a commission. The price we actually get from them for room 3 is £110. We have all the necessary paperwork to validate that you booked room 3 and were not overcharged as we are unable to do that.

Stayed with my sister for 2 nights on our south west coast path walk.
Barbara and her husband are very kind, everything is organised to make it very comfortable for the guests. All you need is available even drinks snacks and cosmetic utilities.
The room was very well equipped, nice furniture and an overwhelming view from the little private balcony of the beach and even over to St. Ives bay.
Breakfast prepared with love on order, very good quality, nice fresh fruits, a sort of very good juices, a variety of main warm breakfast to choose, also on very good quality.
We felt absolutely well at the penellen, would really like to come back one day.
The beach and the whole surrounding are beautiful. We enjoyed walking the coast path very much. As the penellen b&b is located right at the path, this was the perfect accommodation for us!
Thank you so much Barbara and Paul !
We felt you have a lot of experience and high motivation to make it a perfect stay for your guests.
We caught the bus back to Newquay from the busstop which is just a 3 minutes walk away from the B&B. Another great advantage !
Although we had to change buses 3 times on our return, everything worked without problems

We stayed at Penellen for two wonderful weeks it was our second stay and it did not disappoint, our room looked out over St Ives bay and watching the sunsets and sun rises was incredible, our room was a great size spotlessly clean with everything we could wish for and having a fridge was great, we had a couple of wet mornings but our room was nice to sit and relax in until the weather improved. Breakfast was really good quality ingredients and plenty for even the bigger appetites. There is a conservatory for guests to use and picnic tables in the garden that is nice if guests want to sit and have a takeaway. We have been visiting the area for many years and nothing compares to Penellen
