A lovely man greeted us on reception and the room was fantastic for the price we paid which included a lovely breakfast with a great choice of food. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were a little hard but it didn't stop a great nights sleep. We had two tasty evening meals in the bar and found the place to...

Having spent just one night at The Castle and Ball we found the hotel very easily placed in the middle of Marlborough High Street. The hotel has a large pay and display car park at the rear but hotel guest park for free. We were greeted by a very friendly chap on reception and told about the breakfast service etc....

Thank you for your feedback. I'm very sorry that you felt the prices weren't quite right for your drinks, a pint of Guinness is £3.99, and an pint of Peroni shandy is £4.74, this is the most expensive shandy, a pint of Amstel shandy would of been £3.74. The cost is the same for a shandy or a straight point....

Just stayed for one night as a break. A lovely old and quirky building. Showing the signs of age but in such a lovely location, it proved to be the perfect base for exploring the area and then a bit of local shopping. Worth a visit although might be on the slighty expensive side for what it is.

Thank you for your review. There certainly is a lot to do in the area, and Greeneking are often running offers on hotel stays, so it's always worth calling them if there are more places close to us that you would like to to explore.

We visited today for a small family lunch. We'd booked which seems a good idea seeing how busy they were. We ordered starters and mains, most of us opted for different roast options, all reported as very good. Two of the group went for a la carte options which scored highly too. We were looked after by lovely attentive staff...

First time we have stayed at this ‘Old English Inns’ hotel so we chose an upgraded room with a four poster bed, small balcony, shower and bath en-suite. The location, facade and bar of the hotel suggest quality and character; unfortunately our experience was more Travel Lodge (sorry Travel Lodge) than historic hotel with overall poor cleanliness apparent especially in...

Thank you for leaving us some feedback. This certainly isn't how we want our hotel to come across, and I'm very sorry that these issues weren't sorted out during your stay. If you would like to discuss this further, and let us know who you spoke during your stay, please contact us on 6422@greeneking.co.uk

Used the Bar and Restaurant recently for a family group to celebrate a birthday. I don't recall a single smile or pleasantry from any of the staff I was in contact with. Neither Bar nor Restaurant were busy but none of the staff seemed to have a spare few seconds to interact with customers. We had no real complaints about...

Four of us ate in the restaurant of the Castle and Ball on Friday evening and enjoyed excellent food and friendly service in informal surroundings. The chilli salmon on warm sweet potato and kale salad was particularly delicious. We will definitely return!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Extensively refurbished early 2012 and situated on Britain’s widest high street, The Castle & Ball has had a fascinating past dating back to the 15th century, with some of the original oak timbers pre-dating the Spanish Armada. The building’s age accounts for some individual features including the splitlevel brasserie-style restaurant. The hotel’s walled Beer Garden at the rear provides a relaxing setting for those looking to enjoy a drink and a meal alfresco-style. ... more   less
