We spent two nights here for a short break in which we walked two sections of the Ridgeway. Both times on arrival we had cake and a hot drink which was very welcome, especially the 2nd day when it had just started to rain. We had the double room with dressing room and ensuite bathroom - very spacious. Our lift...

We booked three rooms, all of which were very comfortable with everything we needed. Breakfast in the sun room was a treat, with chickens wandering about outside as we ate their delicious eggs, perfectly cooked by Rebecca, with endless supplies of tea, coffee and toast with homemade jams. We were very well looked after witj supplies of maps and guidebooks...

We arrived in the rain and the tea and cake was just what we needed. Six of us stayed just one night, whilst completing The Ridgeway walk. Our rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious with lots of choice. Rebecca made us all a packed lunch which was lovely and Keith helped us out when we couldn't get...

Affable, welcoming hostess of a B&B with a particularly airy and spacious sun room. Immediately upon arrival, we were treated to a special late afternoon tea. The breakfast menu featured free range eggs produced by free range chickens that frolicked in the yard (if you stay, then ask to be shown the diva hen, Ms. Bossy).

A wonderfully warm welcome with tea and a cake to our group of six Ridgeway Walkers. Excellent overnight stay with a delicious full breakfast before we set off on the final stretch to Avebury. Easy to find, plenty of parking, large well furnished rooms.

We stayed for 4 nights with our two rescue staffies. Rebecca and Keith and their two Golden Retrievers couldn't have been more welcoming and the location is ideal for exploring various counties and sights as well as being quiet and attractive and having off-road parking. The twin room itself was lovely- good ensuite and the beds were made into a...

What a lovely place to stay. We couldn't have asked for a nicer B&B to stop at while walking the ridgeway. Warm welcome, good advice prior to visit for sorting evening meal, hearty breakfast to set us up for the day and a lovely pack lunch to keep us going to next stopover. The chickens are fascinating to watch and...

Very friendly welcome. A generous and friendly hostess who greeted us with a lovely slice of Victoria sponge cake. The rooms are clean and comfortable. A hearty breakfast and well made sandwiches, for our day ahead, followed.

We arrived early for the first of our 2 night stay hoping to just drop off rucksacks. Rebecca welcomed us warmly with home made cake and a pot of coffee. The family room with private bathroom opposite was perfect for the 3 of us. The choices at breakfast were varied particularly liked the fruit salad. Lifts to and from the...

Arrived far too early, soaking wet and miserable after a day walking the Ridgeway in the rain. Was welcomed in with a cup of tea and my boots and socks taken away to dry. Thank you! When I booked I hadn't realised I could have been shuttled to starts and picked up from the first two Ridgeway stage finishes. Book...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Sanctuary is a family-run B&B near Marlborough with a four-star rating from the English Tourist Board. We're praised for the spacious rooms and the quality of our meals, using local produce whenever possible, either from our own garden or local suppliers, all served at attractive prices. We have three spacious and flexible rooms available for our guests, with a good range of facilities for personal or business use. As we provide relaxed and friendly accommodation within a family surrounding, children and dogs are very welcome as well. There is plenty of space for all, and a large garden to sit or play in (especially useful for children if you've been stuck in a car for a while). Ogbourne St.George is in a lovely location in the Og River valley between the Marlborough Downs and Aldbourne Downs, and equidistant from Aldbourne, Chisldeon and Marlborough. It's a favourite stop-over for people walking, cycling or running stages of the Ridgeway Trail that passes through on its way from Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire to Overton Hill near Marlborough. You might be staying here to enjoy one of the many activities available, or while you're exploring the rich and varied history of the area. Nearby are many ancient monuments; the most famous of course are Stonehenge and Avebury (which is only 15 minutes away by car) and there are plenty more lesser-known megaliths around as well. ... more   less
