Playa Hermosa Ecolodge is absolutely gorgeous and I highly recommend staying here! The proximity to the beach is unbelievable, step outside the lodge and you are right there. It was one of the most beautiful places I stayed in Nicaragua. There is nothing else around the ecolodge so you feel very peaceful and close to nature, a really unique experience. The staff are wonderful and Levi, the manager, was very welcoming and very helpful with any requests. I can't say enough great things about this place!

We visited February 2019. This beach was absolutely beautiful. We had food from the restaurant which was excellent. The staff was very friendly. We took surf lessons and thought the instructors did an awesome job. Would highly recommend this place.

The views from the rooms are absolutly stunning. Nothing beats being right on the beach. The food is out of this world. The staff is very kind and helpful. They make you feel at home. You feel so much at home you forget you are at a resort. Highly recommend.

I enjoyed the ride going to Playa Hermosa. Going through unpaved road, crossing streams, it was an adventure. That said PH is further away from the city giving it a more private location. Waiters of the restaurant would come by you wherever you sit to check what you would like to order and they would bring you your food. Relaxing area with hammocks, although benches under roofed huts are also available.

From the start of the trip the staff have been very accommodating. I had the mountain view room and it was great. Clean. Spacious. Safe. The only negatives I can think of is I could hear evrything my neighbours were doing. Noise travels here. Also the doors don't shut completely so the wind made it hard to fall asleep. Finally the restaurant is pricey and there is only one healthy option. However the place is gorgeous and after the day tourists leave it's quite special.

We enjoyed traveling throughout southwestern Nicaragua to see the sights, visit Granada, Ometepe Island, etc. But THIS was the PERFECT spot to be for our last 2 nights before we left town. The rooms are basic, but let's be real - if you need a fancy room with a ton of amenities, this probably isn't the vacation for you. Get outside and enjoy the beach, the horse back riding, the surfing, exploring for sand dollars (there were a ton!), and the nightly bonfire. We also had the opportunity to watch the ecolodge release 70 baby turtles. The beach goes on for days and because the ecolodge owns 2,000 acres, there is NO other condos or hotels around. This place is perfect for groups, a romantic getaway or a family. The food was a bit more pricey than what we were used to in other areas of our visit to Nicaragua, but the pricing was aligned with the gorgeous view and great staff the ecolodge has to offer. We will definitely be back and bring our two young boys with us next time.

We drove our rental car. Forded a stream 16 times on the narrow unpaved road, sounds worse than it was. Paid $10 per person at the gate. We got there early so had the pick of places to sit. There are 2 toilets each for males and females, hardly sufficient for the crowds that accumulated over the day. Beautiful beach, views, and ($8 ea) Bloody Marys. You stake out your spot w/ a couple of cozy hotel chairs but what if you want to take a walk or swim? For me, it becomes a hassle to guard your space and flag down the busy servers. I’m glad we experienced it. A 4 hour early day visit was adequate.

The wait staff and hotel staff were all absolutely amazing. From moving tables to accommodate us and our request for shade to consistently checking us throughout our visit. They really went way above and beyond when we lost a set of keys at the restaurant, they found them and brought them to us in San Juan Del Sur, incredible. Best staff of any hotel or restaurant we experienced in Nicaragua.

This hotel markets itself as an eco-lodge (its in their website address!) but in fact, they are anything but. And what’s worse is that they top off an unsustainable business model with poor service, especially for day visitors. I looked on the hotel’s website and saw they offered day passes for $10, including return transport. The website said the time and location of the shuttle, and my hotel in SJDS thought the information on the website was correct. So, I went to the meeting point (the central park) and waited. And waited. And waited. The shuttle was scheduled to come at 11:30, but hadn’t arrived at noon. One of their employees who was waiting for a ride to work told us that the shuttle would come in five minutes. But fifteen minutes later there was no shuttle. By now, we’d been waiting in the hot sun in the park for a full hour. Throughout the wait I phoned all three numbers from their website repeatedly but nobody answered. The employee told us he could organize transport for us to the hotel. However, he came back with an offer from the taxi driver of $25... per person! We said no way, and they we would wait for the shuttle. Another employee arrived by foot and told us it would be forty minutes more! At this point the original employee came back to us and said he found a taxi that would take us for $20 total, which seemed fair (especially if he was tossing in a few more cordobas too) so we agreed. The taxi took us to the hotel, but when we got out, the driver said we had agreed to pay $30 and suddenly the employee was saying the same thing. We had NEVER agreed on $30 - they were trying to scam us. We held our ground, though, and refused to pay more. We went to reception and asked about the shuttle, and the man working there was appallingly rude. He implied that it was our fault for “not checking our emails” (they don’t even have my email address - how would that help?), said he didn’t know if a shuttle would return that evening (so much for round-trip transportation!) and then got even more angry, crumpling up a piece of paper into a ball and slamming it into the trash while yelling in Spanish. Wow, what a welcome! Okay, inside the resort it is clearly a beautiful beach. It is long, the water is calm and warm, and it’s great for swimming and surfing. Full stop. Because while the natural beauty is stunning, this resort is a disgusting excuse for an “eco” hotel. It was packed with hundreds of tourists (including large groups of 50+) and every last inch of space was taken up. They pump loud music all day (including some about “b***hes and t**ties”... great for families!I personally picked up two beer cans off the beach and put them in a garbage bin, where I also noticed hundreds of plastic cups because this “eco” hotel serves alcohol in plastic cups... easily 1000 or more every day. They show zero respect for their beautiful natural surroundings, choosing instead to maximize profit by cutting corners in service, comfort and sustainability. I hope that Playa Hermosa finds completely new ownership and management who can build a destination that matches the beauty of Nicaragua’s Pacific Coast. Until that happens, I’d recommend avoiding this hotel for both day and overnight visits, because it is actually heartbreaking to see just how terribly it is being run today.

It's well worth the $3USD/pp fee for a clean and safe facility with a good restaurant/bar, maintained toilets, changing rooms and lots of wide powdery sand beaches to walk along and a very active surf scene with available surf boards and instructors. Go early in the day and snag a beach side spot with hammocks, table and benches. The restaurant has good and ample food from breakfast to dinner with drink specials. Arrange your own transportation to/from Playa Hermosa, making sure you leave before it's dark, unless you are staying at the hotel.
