Stayed here with a group of 35 people. They are extremely accommodating. FREE BREAKFAST EVERYMORNING! Central location to all the bars, restaurants, and beach. Only downside is if you want air con in your room you have to pay an extra $10 per night.

Be advised you cannot reserve here and you must pay each morning to stay the night. We stayed 3 nights in a twin private room with own bathroom. Although the surf shop was right outside our room it was not noisy at all. If you are looking for a party hostel this is not the place for you. The hostel...

Me and my friends rent surfboards and took the shuttle to Playa Hermosa. The shuttle service is very nice but the surfboard rental kind of suck. My girlfriend and I haven't surf very much (like 15 minutes) because she got injured above the eye by her surfboard. We went to the hospital and came back (it cost us 50$US of...

Really cool hostel with great lounge areas, complimentary breakfast, kitchen, clay water filters, wifi, hammocks, outdoor area to hang clothes, cheap shuttles to the beach, surf rentals, a rooftop bar....basically they have everything you could want. Staff are friendly, and we met a ton of great people in our dorm.

Had a great week here. Staff were always super helpful about arranging surf lessons and transport to the beaches. Its located at the end of one of the main drags so its quiet at night but close to everything going on. Its also got the best included breakfast I've ever had at a hostel. Huge bonus.

I had a similar experience to Jeessiikka who stayed in January 2015. I stayed in Dec 2015/Jan 2016. The rooms on the top floor are fairly clean for hostel living but very hot. I got moved to a downstairs room with no explanation. I was told the room was full but when I checked there was a bed available and...

It's $10 for a dorm so pretty good value. There is a bar...

Loved Casa Oro!! It was the perfect balance of being a social hostel without having a party jammed down your throat if you didn't want it. Wifi was great, free breakfast was delicious, and staff were really friendly and helpful. Daily shuttles to various beaches, close to a tonne of restaurants and shops. We had planned on only one or...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Casa Oro was the first hostel and surf school in San Juan del Sur. Before that it was an obligatory spot on the historic gold route through Central America. Today, Casa Oro is the first eco-hostel in San Juan del Sur, part of the Circulo Initiative, a family of for purpose businesses in pursuit of regeneration. Tourism growth and development often leave destructive side effects for cultures, communities and the environment. It doesn’t have to be like this though. We find inspiration in how nature works and use this as our compass for holistic creation. In everything we do, our aim is to leave places better than we found them. So far, it’s working. -- Just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach, Casa Oro offers a variety of budget-friendly accommodations designed with conscious backpackers in mind. We have both dorms and private rooms available. All of our dorm beds come equipped with privacy curtains for your convenience. The second and third floor boast a balcony that wraps around the entire building. A scrumptious breakfast is included with any stay along with free Wi-Fi, lockers (bring your own lock), free filtered water and access to a communal kitchen. Friendly vibes and hugs are also included at no extra charge. Our beach shuttles are conveniently located just outside the front door, surf school is downstairs and there’s even a RestoCafe/Bar, so all you’ve gotta do is roll out of bed and everything’s at your fingertips. We’ve also got donation-based yoga classes regularly. ... more   less
