You have to like this hotel for its location and fine staff. The room seemed dark due to its furniture and paint, and outside roof air handler’s contributed to some noise. The staff was very helpful with a well organized list of walking distance restaurants. Breakfast was well done if you enjoy traditional items and coordinated by a well organized lady and staff. Easy place to stay.
Planing a family and friends reunion I discovered this hotel that has great reviews, fair pricing and great location. The idea was to have over 14 people together and enjoy good food and wine, unfortunately I found out their restaurant was close since the beginning of the COVID nightmare, so I spoke to Russell Rodriguez to seek alternatives, he kindly suggested a few near by restaurants and even made the reservation to the one met all our needs. Russell is a dependable person, if I had a hotel or any other business in the hospitality field I will put him at the very top of the operation!
There was an incident downtown which caused the hotel and surrounding area to be "shelter in place". The staff at the front desk went above and beyond in keeping us apprised of the situation and providing clarification when needed. (We were NEVER in any danger, and the hotel is in a very safe area. There had been an incident at the Salem Mall which is 4-5 blocks away). They even made us a fresh pot of coffee since I had wanted to go out and get a cup. The staff is amazing, and the professionalism and caring of your staff is what makes the hotel exceed all our expectations. I love the location and being able to walk a very short distance to try new restaurants and bars. Parking is covered and free.
We stayed two wonderful nights in this full-service hotel in downtown Salem. Parking is free in the underground garage. It may be one of the largest buildings in downtown. I have to tip my hat to Mika Yamanaka, who works the front desk and sometimes, reservations. She helped me secure the bookings and made sure our stay was pleasant and trouble-free. Since the route from Salem to Bend is problematic during winter, she went out of her way to update me on the road conditions. She was the one who cautioned me about the mandatory carrying of tire chains. The hotel gave us large junior and suite rooms at very reasonable rates with a full, buffet breakfast. We have not seen buffet service since pre-pandemic. The maintenance man gave me a glob of silicone caulking that plugged a hole in my shoe. It worked well to stop my socks and toes from getting wet and cold. The Grand Hotel in Salem lives up to its name.…
I can't thank the Grand Hotel enough for going above and beyond to assist me in holding a 90th birthday party for my Mom. Russ From the very beginning was kind, helpful and readily available if I had a question. I had been for over the years sad to see customer service just go by the wayside. Russ brought it al back, tenfold! From setting extra tables, to helping with caterers, every little detail, brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Grand Hotel, and special thanks to Russ. I wish I could give 10 stars!!
This hotel was an excellent choice in Salem. Russell at the front desk made us feel at home, he upgraded our room to a suite for a good price difference. He suggested several good restaurants nearby that were great. also he suggested places and parks to visit in the area that we really enjoyed it. We cannot say enough about his service. We will never forget his service.
Friendly front desk and location of this hotel is fabulous! I’ve stayed here many times and it never disappoints. The rooms are dated but that really doesn’t matter to me it’s a comfortable bed and well appointed rooms. Unfortunately that liz is still closed but they do a great job for the Buffay breakfast for the location is so close to awesome restaurants are around all within walking distance. I will continue to have this is my Salem go to hotel!
Very few COVID safety measures in place. Room was clean and comfortable. Stayed for a local wedding and met friends downstairs for their breakfast. It was a buffet with no sneeze guards, everyone shared utensils and handled the coffee urns. Tables were close and many folks without the mandated masks. While the hotel seemed to have low occupancy - we saw 150 go through the breakfast line.
Booked this “nice” hotel suite for. 60th birthday trip from so cal. Strike one, got the the hotel at 5:20 pm Saturday 21 August. How is the room not ready until 6:00 pm? Strike two, got the the room, super small bathroom, old, not historic furniture and the toilet will not flush. Strike three, room key does not work and no bottles water in our suite. It’s just water, you can afford bottles of water at +$200 a night
We stayed at 5 properties during this trip and the Grand was the most elegant. Great pool and hot tub tho a bit of a walk. Hallway decor is reminiscent of the haunted mansion, but in a good way. The hot buffet breakfast was nice but the restaurant and bar are closed until September 2021 due to Covid. Parking was easy and spacious. All around a good experience
