My review is mixed, first of all let me say that the B&B is conveniently located in a vibrant neighborhood of Portland, and that the Victorian via the early 1990s decor is great fun, the public rooms are very photo worthy. That said there were a number of small fixable things we didn't enjoy. Firstly the micro fiber sheets were uncomfortable and rather sweaty to sleep on, though the bed was comfortable. Overall the home is very clean, but the too small bathroom shower was in need of a deep cleaning to remove mold. The furnishings were comfortable, but too much space was taken by ornamental items made of composite materials. Our room was above a pair of industrial coolers and the noise from them was problematic for someone who lives in the quiet of the suburbs. And finally the serve yourself breakfast (a great idea) had a few items that were shall we say a bit past Thier prime. If none of these complaints seem important to you then you will love it, we didn't. It would not say 'don't'.…
We felt at home in the lovely spacious BnB. The hotel in in a great location. The Victorian architecture and decor are unique and sort of fun. Most importantly we hung out a bit in the parlors and chatted with the hosts and other guests. It gave us a feel of having a place in Portland.
I can not speak highly enough about my stay at Lion and the Rose! The location was perfect for the purposes of my being in Portland. The bed was so comfortable I slept soundly. The room was spacious and pretty in the Victorian style. My needs were met and expectations exceeded!
In the Air BnB era, great BnBs are dying out. Ones like Lion and the Rose in 100+ year old Victorian homes in historic areas are not to be missed. The house is excellently maintained, architecturally beautiful, and the hosts are warm and welcoming. I did not have time to partake in the full service breakfast but even just for the cost of my room, I was still offered a good selection of teas, fruit, cereals, etc in the kitchen. And there are snacks and candy in the common rooms for all guests to enjoy. Street parking IS tight but time it right and you can find something within a block or two. Worse case scenario: you “have” to walk a few blocks and enjoy the craftsman style and other historic homes all around. There’s also a lot of food options within two blocks. I would f Definitely stay here again…
We greatly enjoyed our stay here for two nights as we wrapped up our exploration of Oregon. The home is huge, sturdy, historic, and beautiful. We found the location to be very convenient. While here, we wandered the adjacent Irvington Historic District, walked to dinner (Petisco) and dessert (Eb & Bean), and walked to the Lloyd Center MAX station (for a trip to Washington Park). And we drove to several other sites. Both breakfasts were great, and we enjoyed the fact that one of the owners joined us for interesting conversation. The wraparound porch was a great place to linger with our coffee in the morning. Our room was roomy and luxurious.
I had such a wonderful relaxing time here. If you're into historical houses, this house and this neighborhood is for you. I spent time walking around leisurely and sipping drinks on the porch. I felt like I was back home in the South! Loved it.
The Garden Room was perfect as usual. The breakfast was relaxing. The owner and staff was so accommodating when I scheduled the wrong date and showed up a week early. Outstanding lodging and service, as expected.
I have traveled all over the world. I've stayed in castles and convents, homes and high rises, estates and cottages, but The Lion and Rose is and will likely remain one of my very, very favorite places. Such a beautiful, but approachable, home such wonderfully nice people - hosts, staff, and guests! I live a rushed and chaotic life and the moments I was able to sit in their parlor with a cup of tea surrounded by beautiful objects and soft classical music will remain in my memory for a long time.
Dusty is awesome, thanks!! I have some issues with my travel and I have really enjoyed working with Dusty. He is very, helpful, kind and great to work with. I appreciate his time and look forward to my future stays. Thanks
We spent a wonderful 3 days at the Lion and the Rose. Dusty and Steve have thought of every little detail in making this a relaxing and comfortable place to stay. The decor and furnishings are beautiful and make you feel as though you are living in an earlier period of time while enjoying current amenities. The owners are very friendly and welcoming.
