In general the property was clean and the staff was friendly. During our 6-day stay, none of the ice machines (2) were functional, which was an inconvenience. Attention to guest room maintenance was the biggest downside. Unpainted patches on the wall and detached trim around doors are a couple of examples. Lack of any breakfast options was a surprise since most hotels have figured out how to provide one during COVID.

What you would expect for this price in Portland. As mentioned in other reviews, carpets were stained and rooms looked old No remote for tv and they couldn't even get us one. Worked for what we needed moving our daughter into her dorm. Not sure we would stay here again.

Very sad that this Ramada apparently accepts homeless vouchers for rooms. Lobby smells dirty homeless people gathering at front smoking homeless people as guests in the rooms that I paid over $100 a night. Ramada used to be considered an above average quality hotel now it’s a homeless shelter that charges unexpecting travelers $100 plus to stay in the same rooms as homeless people get to stay in for free! Well not free to taxpayers! It’s not right to allow hotels to do this without disclosure before booking! I should be aware that junkies etc could be staying in the next room. Some may be dangerous! Very disappointing Ramada

Responded 9 Oct 2024
Thank you for your review, Charles! We're sorry you felt the way you did about our valued guest! Houselessness is a city-wide problem affecting most major coastal cities. As a responsible member of society, we feel proud to fulfill our civic duty to be an integral part of the countless people, organizations, charities, churches and out-reach groups working tirelessly to help those in need. At the Ramada by Wyndham Portland, we follow strict standards and established protocols set up by many of these organizations who receive much of their funding from charitable donations from the concerned and generous citizenry of our Rose City. These organizations have teams of professionals who take each individual on a case-by-case basis, after thoroughly vetting them, and reach out to us if they feel they are a good fit for our hotel and guests. We require all guests, wherever they're from, to be presentable, clean, and hygienic. We are not a "homeless shelter". The city has many homeless shelters where unhoused people can receive the help they need, including showers, laundry facilities and food. We work the agencies that help prevent houselessness before it starts, and people who need hotels during transitional housing times, and other basic needs anyone may need a hotel for at any time. We clean each room thoroughly between any guest stay, but we do have designated rooms for certain programs to ensure no overlap. We value all of our guests, yourself included, and ask that our guests extend that respect and caring to other guests. While some may get financial help from outreach organizations, others have it paid for by their parents, their company expense account, or from a variety of sources that have no bearing on how guests are treated. We have a smoking area that is 25ft from the entrance. Oregon law only requires 10ft from the doors, but we ensure our guests are over in the designated smoking area. Please reach out to us directly if you have any other questions so we can set your mind at ease. We thank you for your patronage, and we hope to see you again soon!

STAY AWAY FROM this Ramada!!!! There wasn’t any hot water the one thing all places should have. When calling the front counter and going down to the counter. There wasn’t anyone to help. So I packed up and went to check out of this dump. The Indian guy was completely rude and wouldn’t help resolving the situation. Common sense would be check me into another room that had working hot water. Instead he started yelling at me like it was my fault for the hot water not working in this dump of a place. By all means sleep in your car if you have to. It would be a lot better than paying to stay here!!! What a wasted of $115

On September 8, 2022 I began a 2 week stay at your Ramada Inn located on 9707 SE Stark. I would have never suspected that I needed to check if the toilet seat was fastened down in advance of using it but this turned out to be the case. In the middle of the night, I got up to use the toilet and nearly cracked my head on the bathtub because it hadn't been fastened down on either side. I immediately contacted the front desk requesting that this be resolved immediately. It wasn't until three days later and another call that the toilet seat actually was attached. When this was finally done, a rusty piece of metal was left in the walk way between the bed and the bathroom. These are the dangerous conditions I experienced at your motel. You should be ashamed but clearly you are not. When I paid for my stay, I was only charged for half of the stay. Even after your shabby, dangerous treatment, I still informed the front desk that there had been an error in billing. I provided a fair and accurate review on Booking.com of what had occurred.

Imagine my surprise when I attempted to rebook at your establishment on booking.com that I had been blocked from staying at the Ramada on Stark. It would appear that if anyone honestly reviews your motels and it is not to your liking then you retaliate. I think you need to own what you did and not be retaliatory. If I was willing to stay again and see if your maintenance and safety issues improved then you should fully encourage the opportunity to improve on a less than exemplary stay. I would like an explanation and an apology. To make matters worse, while attempting to contact you by email, your system wouldn’t work.

We appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review, as we were recovering from Covid times and were terribly short staffed. We appreciate your business and are saddened to hear that we were unable to meet your needs as well as the demands of the rest of the hotel. We apologize for your unfortunate experience! I can assure you that we do not retaliate for any reviews and have unfortunately let important reviews like yours go unattended far too long! We do not blacklist guests unless they have done something destructive to the hotel or other guests. Sometimes that can be something as simple as engaging in an argument or belittling or harassing our staff, which can sometimes happen in the heat of the moment, particularly when everyone was coming out of Covid, our industry was very short staffed, and everyone's tempers may not have been their best. We hope that you'll reconsider and reach out to us directly so we can assure that you're taken care of properly and all of your needs are met. We thank you for your business and hope you'll be giving us another chance to develop this valuable relationship with you!

For your safety and piece of mind pick a different hotel. There is not a lot of parking and it is not well lit. We stayed here because of the distance it was from the location of the Taekwondo tournament. With that being said there were homeless people in and out of the hotel. Hanging out in the lobby, walking down the hallways, washing their laundry, using the hot tub as a bath tub and going through the kitchen area. Outside of the hotel if you had to park in the back you could witness people shooting up, selling drugs from a honda civic, the ladies of the night, or dodge the human feces that covered the walk way. Never mind the tent city that was behind the building. When we checked in I was told there will be a $50 charge on my card for incidentals, which I was fine with instead I had two charges of $104 for the room and a $150 deposit charge. After the run around I finally got my money back a couple weeks later. We were also told you have to giggle the door to get into our room, if it doesn't open to alert the front and the will open it. Thankfully that did not happen and once getting into our room noticed half of the furniture had been damaged. Make sure to take pictures if you do choose to stay there. but i will say...DONT STAY HERE!

Opened the bed immediately at entering our room. To our shock and horror we found human hair in the bed, stained and thread bare sheets (see pics). The bed had obviously been slept in and the linen was not changed by housekeeping after the previous guests checked out. I headed to the front desk to let them know about the unacceptable condition of the bed in our room. I calmly explained what we had found and I asked to please have housekeeping change our bed. I was told that there was no housekeeping until the next day (it was 5:15pm). I then again calmly told the front desk clerk that the problem needed to be resolved. The front desk clerk told me, “you need to stop talking to me like that.” His solution was to change to a room on a lower level (FYI we wanted a top floor room and they had no other top floor rooms) but we had already unpacked. I left the desk frustrated. We then visited the front desk again, he tried to argue without even asking how he could help. I had to stop the clerk from trying to make excuses and just get him to help. I communicated to him if he could just get us clean bed linens we could change the bed our selves. Only then did he provide clean bed linens. His behavior and attitude were unacceptable as well as the housekeeping and bed linens, the same.

Thank you for your valuable review, we appreciate your business and are saddened to hear about this unfortunate experience! All of our guest rooms are cleaned thoroughly and professionally between every guest stay. We do require housekeeper hair to be professional, clean, well-groomed hair that is styled away from their face. Short hair must be kept off the shoulders and styled away from the face, while longer hair is required to be tied back in a professional style that also doesn't cover the face. While we adhere to this standard, we cannot guarantee that no hair will ever be lost in the process of deep and vigorous cleaning. Our Housekeepers keep to a daily cleaning schedule and are not on site 24/7, as is the case for most any hotel. Our preferred course of action is to get you into a different room right away. If you decline to be moved to a new room, there's not much else we can do at that point, as our front desk agents are not trained housekeepers and are not allowed to leave the front desk for extended periods due to security reasons and safety concerns. We always require all of our staff and guests to speak in a respectful and mindful manner, as they themselves would like to be spoken to. We're sorry your conversation seemed to go off of the rails a bit. We hope that every interaction with guests is a productive and enjoyable one. We thank you for doing your part and will look into doing ours better. Thank you for being a part of our recovery when our industry was understaffed and many hotels in the area were closing down. You were a valuable part of why we are still here today! You'll be happy to hear that all of our rooms have been remodeled and we hope you'll choose to give us another opportunity to give you the experience you expect and show you what your patronage means to us!

Not in a good neighborhood. Parking lot had garbage strewn all over the place.
Not enough parking, only two handicapped parking spots, and of course they were full. Had to park in the back, which would not have been so bad, but there were moving trucks parked in most of the parking places, and had to park as far back as possible. We looked for an entrance, but only found a man hiding in the bushes outside the back door, that was for employees, or ? By the time I finally got around to the front, I was having trouble walking, and almost didn't make it. That alone, is enough that I wouldn't stay there unless I had to. Elevator was so slow, I could have climbed the stairs faster, and I'm disabled. They did have an ice machine, that worked, and a vending machine. But the garbage can was so full, it was overflowing all over the floor in front of both machines. Furnace in the hallway had the front off and leaning up against it. Had trouble getting the door open, keys didn't work right. Door handle just hung there, but we did finally get in. Our room was so far back, it was overlooking the back parking lot, so we could keep an eye on our truck all night. Good thing, since I watched a man break into a van on the street, and walk off without a care in the world with the contents of the van. Bathroom is so tiny, you can't dry off, or dress in it. The water was good and hot. Bathroom door was peeling and looked like a dog had chewed it up, or scratched it all up. The beds were broke down in the middle, and looked sunken in. I did sleep half way comfortable, though. The internet was good. The furniture in the room seemed to be in good shape, and was clean, other then the paint, or polish that had been smeared all over the top, and dried there. I did not hear other guests, so it was quiet.

The hotel is very old construction, and it shows. Everything in the room is falling apart and there was a constant trash smell..
The hotel is located in a sketchy neighborhood, so even walking to the nearest 7-eleven feels unsafe.
The hotel allows pets, and the room shows pet damage (side of carpets chewed up, bathroom door scrapes), which the hotel doesn’t seem bothered enough to repair.
The hotel said upon arrival that breakfast is cancelled as a result of COVID restrictions. However this want mentioned to us while booking, in the online listing, and no discount/reimbursement was offered.
Location wise the hotel isn’t great if you are in Portland for tourism. Most attractions are towards the west side of Portland.

Just now from the hotel website" Pet Policy. We are a dog only friendly hotel. Maximum of 2 dogs are allowed for a non-refundable charge of $25 per stay. Dogs are not to be left unattended. ADA service animals are also welcome at this hotel." Hope that helps. You could confirm with the front desk, but this info is from Ramada Portland Stark St. Hotel policies.
