My husband, 7-year old son and I spent three nights at this hotel. We booked it because a relative was already staying there but will come back just for the hotel. Each room is dedicated to a writer and decor themed accordingly. Without wi-if or televisions, guests play board games or do puzzles in the well stocked game/coffee room or...

I had an overall good time. The hotel is very popular. The choice of a room can be slim unless you reserve way ahead. I stayed in the Gertrude Stein room, which I wouldn't recommend. The mattress was lumpy and pillows are shot and maybe that's part of the theme. I didn't sleep well. The room was also very musty...

Best part of this hotel was dinner - our dinner mates were wonderful - small and intimate and great food. We played "2 Truths and a Lie" after eating as is the custom - so plan ahead!! There are even rumors of a ghost or two at the hotel - fun fun!! The library with tea and spiced wine was...

Super sweet old building in a small community outside of Newport -- Nye Beach. Don't miss this spot. Hotel is comfortable and each room is dedicated to one author. So much fun. Right on the beach. Sweet walkable "downtown" area with coffee shops, boutiques and restaurants. Only one complaint: the pillows we had were shot -- super old. No neck...

It's intended to be eccentric. Pros: Good ocean view, no television, good mattresses, decidedly offbeat, easy walk to restaurants Cons: No shampoo, no Internet, food is mediocre, some rooms without private bath, expensive for what you get. Parking can be a problem Avoid the dinner (expensive, not very good)

I loved our time at the Sylvia beach hotel! We stayed during a road trip down the Oregon coast, and booked the Herman Melville room. The room was decorated with a thorough (and passionate) attention to detail! Every room is uniquely designed around an author or a book. We were so excited to see that until a room is occupied,...

This review is based on touring the premises, talking to the front desk manager, using the gift shop. I will do another review after I actually go and stay there. And I really want to do that after my visit. We saw many of the rooms, about half of them. They are quite open to letting you wander through and...

The Sylvia Beach Hotel on Nye Beach in Newport is a gem on the Oregon coast! Located on a bluff overlooking the beach this is a book lovers B&B with all of the rooms named after authors e.g. Agatha Christie (the room we stayed in), the Hemingway room, J.K. Rowling, Jules Verne, Dr. Seuss and many more. Each room is...

For those who don't know, the Sylvia Beach hotel has all its rooms decorated around different themes associated with authors--the Mark Twain room, the Ernest Hemmingway room (with stuffed head on the door), and so forth. Our room was the Virginia Woolf room and quite small. No view of the ocean but a few steps from the beach. The food...

Yes, you certainly need reservations to stay here because it is very popular. But, seriously, this isn't the place for you if 1. You can't live without the Internet, 2. You can't live without TV, 3. You can't handle stairs (but see below), 4. Small rooms, uneven floors, old buildings, and a certain shabbiness turn you off. Room selection is...
