Very convenient hotel to riverwalk and shopping in Eugene. Recently remodeled after a fire a few years ago and it is really nice and quiet. Rooms are new with nice bedding and good showers. Definitely a good choice when visiting this town. The lounge and dining area (reviewed separately) is top notch. Since they were not yet serving breakfast, we could walk to Elmers for breakfast.

We traveled to Eugene for the AOL conference and we stay at Valley River every time we attend. The rooms are very clean and they updated by adding a mini refrigerator and a safe in case you have items that you want to lock them up.We got our room immediately and was able to get our bags into our room and relaxe a little before the meetings started. It is a large facility so all the meetings were at the one site and we did not have to travel any where else unless we chose to do so. Friendly staff and enjoy seeing the people that were still working at the facilty that were there before. Beds are comfortable we enjoyed our stay.We also like the fact they have a resturant there as well.

I first stayed at this nearly 50 year old hotel 20 years ago. Perhaps both our relative youth made a big impression back then. So I was looking forward to staying there again this trip. I'd say it's aged pretty well, with only a few wrinkles here and there. The room was well appointed with king bed, couch, chair, and desk. A fridge, large screen TV, and Keurig rounded out the amenities. There are obvious signs of paint touchups and the ceiling looks like it may have suffered some water damage, but nothing seemed obviously warn.

Sweetwaters Grill is still putting out some fine food and the staff were all friendly and attentive.

With newer, glitzier hotels opening downtown and elsewhere, the VRI seems to have adapted itself to being an above-average conference facility and has lowered its room rates to reflect its slightly lower position in the pecking order. At the rate I paid, I feel like I got more than a good value.

The day before my initial check-in, I received texts welcoming me with any special requests I have, to text them back (which was pleasant to receive).

I showed up at 4pm the day of check-in, after paying for/reserving my room a couple weeks in advance.

I wasn’t allowed to check into my room until 8:30pm; 9.5hrs after the checkout time of the previous occupants.
No one notified me that they were well behind on cleaning.

They charge $10 just to park your vehicle there.

The bathtub had hair in it.

The staff was very friendly, and this review should not be taken personally by them.

I paid almost $200 for one night I stayed, but there’s other hotels that are cleaner and much more updated for about the same price.

Thank you for the candid and specific feedback. We have had some delay in check-ins related to our ability to staff on any given day, but that is no excuse for a lack of cleanliness. Is there anything I might do to make it up to you?

On 051021 I booked a stay at Valley River Inn as I, my wife, and her brother and his wife were flying to Mexico the next morning on vacation. The hotel said they offered a flight and stay, where you could leave your car for up to 2 weeks, for the low cost of $50,00. Since we were going to be gone for 7 days, we paid the extra and took their shuttle. When we returned on the 18th I called the Inn from Denver and advised we would be landing at 9:15pm. I asked how to schedule the return shuttle and was told by Hans "no shuttle was available". When I explained I had paid for this service, I was told again it wasn't available and I would have to hire a taxi or Uber.

I arrived on time and found there were no ride shares available. I had to call 4 taxi companies before I found one working, then was told I would have to get 2 taxis because they weren't large enough to handle 4 people. When the first taxi arrived, I was placing my luggage in the trunk when I was almost struck by a shuttle leaving the airport. You guessed it, it was the Valley River inn shuttle that "wasn't available".

When we flagged it down, it held the flight crew from a plane that landed 30 minutes after our flight. The shuttle was not full and the driver agreed to take us back to our vehicle and the Inn. The problem was, I had already ordered and paid for the taxi, so while I was able to cancel 1 taxi, I had to pay $25 for the first one. I followed the shuttle back to the Inn and contacted Hans, asking why he had lied. Hans continued to insist a shuttle wasn't available, even though it had eventually picked up my brother-in-law and his wife.

The purpose of this review is to warn future travelers DO NOT TRUST Valley River inn, as this cost more than parking at the airport myself. And by the way, I attempted to contact their General Manager, leaving 3 voice mails, to date he has failed to return my call. What a shame!!!

My sister and I were at the INN from Thurs. to Monday. Everyday we put out the service the room card and each evening when we got back, no service. We called the office but no one answered. By Sat. we really needed clean towels and specially washrags as we had only 3 for the whole time, once again we called to complain and try to get some towels and they said they would take care of it. We were gone until evening and when we got back there was a pile of towels sitting on the floor in front of our door and no washrags! We complained again and they said that they don't service the rooms when they're occupied because of Covid....They should tell people that up front.....

I have to say, I was very surprised at the number of negative reviews here. I have traveled extensively and while this hotel is not a Ritz-Carlton, you are also not paying Ritz prices! My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights while we had an event to attend nearby and found the hotel to be really nice. It is right on the Willamette River with a walking and biking trail to enjoy. There is an eagle's nest on a pole near the path. It was inspiring watching the eagle ( on July 4th) going back and forth from the river to the nest to feed its' family. The room and bed were very comfortable.I think my only negative comment is that the doors are very heavy and slam shut if you don't make an effort to close them gently. Other than that, I had no noise problems. I wish my house was that quiet. We had a room overlooking the pool and I would highly recommend the view. The pool was absolutely wonderful. We dined in the restaurant and also ordered take out and were very pleased overall. I look forward to returning to the Valley River Inn.

We were disappointed and sad to experience the loss of class at the Inn. Sean at check-in was efficient but impersonal with a patter designed to make us think we were getting a deal (“but I am going to waive the parking”, “I am upgrading you because we have overbooked” in an obviously quiet hotel. The discharge clean had not been checked: food in fridge, no hair dryer, no pen/paper, mirrors smeared, high dusting neglected, no extra blanket or pillow. A hair dryer was delivered. Requests for blanket ignored. Our sign for room service hung on the door all day with no service. On a high note, the shower hose broke during a shower. The very nice maintenance man took care immediately. The housekeeping staff appeared sparse. The pool (not likely warm in April) is well-tended and clean as are the grounds. The restaurant food is excellent (no room service) but the service was spotty. This was not a pleasure trip, so the stay met our need but I would not recommend this for an uplifting vacation. We did fine without housekeeping. The desk sends multiple texts and should have asked if we wanted them (“Do you need ____?”)The price was right for our suite and the quiet was good for us but not for the business. We hope the special service returns to match the nice setting. It is the only comparable hotel with outdoor access from the room.

I’ll start with the good. I booked a 6 day trip to Eugene, OR to this hotel December 29th through January 5th. I booked this hotel for a 2nd time because the price & location are great. The hotel is a bit old & dated but it’s clean, cozy and the rooms are large. My husband likes the balcony so that he can “sneak” out and smoke. It’s within walking distance of the mall, plenty of restaurants and close to the freeway. And... the Priceline reservation I found on Trip Advisor is by far the best deal for this hotel. Don’t bother booking directly through them since they won’t match or reduce their “in house” rate.

The bad: they collected my credit card at check in & said it was for incidentals. Okay, that’s standard. The day I checked out, I noticed they charged my card for $50. I figured it was pending & would drop off. It didn’t. I called and spoke to the staff, they indicated it was for PARKING??? What the? Parking? Are they kidding? I mentioned we stayed there in October of 2020, 2 months prior to our recent stay, and was never charged parking. I asked why we weren’t informed of an additional $10 a day parking fee, she stated the paper parking pass should have been an indication. Well it isn’t! It’s the principal of the matter to me. I could have parked my car in the very wide open, semi vacant parking lots of the mall, Elmers, Texas Roadhouse and walked 100 yards to the hotel entrance to save myself $50 bucks.

Anyhow- maybe it’s a pick & choose which guests pay for parking based upon who or how they booked their reservation. I guess the hotel has to try and collect fees they missed out on by allowing other vendors to book their hotel for less than they charge for a direct reservation. That’s just my opinion.

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel and for the feedback. I appreciate your frustration as no one likes hidden fees. I just went on Priceline as our fees are supposed to be listed. They aren't listed on Priceline's initial screen but they are listed on the amenities page; "USD 10 per stay." We'll be in contact with Priceline about that presentation. Our goal isn't to surprise anyone with fees, charges or rate; please contact me at the hotel and I'll make it right. Sincerely, Greg

Lisa treated my friend and I very well during our time there. She made us some incredible Bloody Mary’s, and kept checking in on us appropriately to make sure that we were never thirsty. If you’re staying at the inn I highly suggest that you check out the sweet waters in below and grab some drinks for the bar. Great drinks for great prices!
