Do not waste your time or money staying in this hotel. Everything from check-in to check-out was riddled with issues! The front desk was completely unhelpful and disinterested in doing anything at all besides the absolute bare minimum of checking guests in and out. The room is incredibly dated, just like the hotel itself. The curtains have moth holes, and look like they are straight from the 70's at best. The bed was easily the worst part of this stay. It is like sleeping on a stone slab. Because the bed is so incredibly uncomfortable, I wanted more pillows to support myself. Of course, the phone in our room didn't work, so I had to call down using my cell phone. Was told they had no extra pillows, and the lady on the phone was snippy and rude as if I was being a pain for even asking. After struggling to sleep for hours, I went down to the desk myself, hoping I might get better results if they could just hand me a blanket from housekeeping. When I asked for an extra blanket from the night auditor, I was told that housekeeping had gone home. As somebody that used to work as a night auditor, that is what you are on property for! To help the guests and act as support staff. I have ran and gotten more pillows and blankets than I can keep count of! Why can't the employees here do their job? The following morning when I called to ask for a late checkout the girl that answered the phone was so rude and unhelpful (same one that refused to help before). Shockingly, you can guess what her answer was to my request for an extra 30 minutes. It is incredibly frustrating as a guest to be told no over and over. I will not be staying here again, I'd rather sleep in my car than deal with the rude, unhelpful staff and the hand-me-down bed from the Addam's family.…
It’s a nice enough hotel but the rooms are so dark. They need to get rid of the tinted lampshades that make the rooms dark and that also applies to the bathroom. It’s difficult to put on makeup on when it’s so dimly lite. The lights should be facing down giving ample illumination not up. And as for a good nights sleep that’s hard when you’re sleeping on what seems like an extra firm mattress.
We had a decent stay here except that the beds were not comfortable. The staff was helpful. We were able to have two adjoining rooms which is not always possible. We attended an event that was well organized with excellent food. The location is convenient to the freeway but I couldn't hear the freeway. There is parking on the back that was had easy access to our hotel rooms.
We chose the Monarch at the recommendation of my Surgeon. My stay there was based around a procedure I was undergoing close by. The Front Desk Staff was friendly and welcoming. The restaurant/bar are excellent, when they’re open. (See reviews) Accessible to the freeways/downtown Portland. No high lodging tax. The hotel is pretty tired. It sits close to the freeway on a big, deserted parking lot. Despite this, it is relatively quiet and the security is good. It’s obviously geared toward conventions etc as the guest room I stayed in was not particularly designed for in-room comfort. The “No Smoking” policy was laughable at best. The entire facility had the lingering odor of cigs. Our room had a far stronger odor than the lobby, even though the window had been left open. The open window made the room quite hot as we were having unseasonably hot weather. It took a while for the temp in the room to normalize, but even with the fan on the room was still smoky. The smoking policy also prohibited the use of candles, making a smoke-eating candle not doable. Overall, they should probably just open up for full-on smoking and host Phillip Morris and R. J. Reynolds sales meetings. Our room had tiny, uncomfortable bathroom facilities. The sink area had little countertop and was bathed in a dim, yellow light. The back on the desk chair was broken, making the chair unusable beyond sitting on the edge. Leaning back in that chair would likely land you on the floor. The bed was comfortable. The fridge is nice and big as well as being quiet. We didn’t use the coffee maker or TV. There is no breakfast available beyond what you might find at the little “grab market” in the lobby. There is no room service until 11AM. No breakfast at a facility like this one is unheard of and darned inconvenient. Another HUGE frustration was finding the bar closed in the middle of the afternoon. Yeah. 2:30 PM in the greater Portland area and I find the ONE closed bar. The desk staff encouraged me to select a beer from the grab market. There was one OR beer available, or I could simply wait until 4 when the bar reopened. Thing is, I wanted an Oregon beer at 2:45 PM, not 4 PM. So we decided on a coffee instead. Sorry, restaurant closed too! FAIL. Now to the reason for the one dot rating. In no place does the Monarch Hotel inform Guests that housekeeping needs to be requested. I didn’t see it on the page-long disclaimer that pops up on the website, in my reservation confirmation, in hotel policies nor were we informed personally at check-in. My stay there was predicated on a medical procedure and clean linens were strongly recommended by my Surgeon. After returning to our unserviced room around 1:45 PM, we presumed housekeeping was on the way because they were working in several other rooms on our floor. By 2:20 PM we hadn’t had housekeeping service. I stepped out in the hall and saw a young man pushing a housekeeping cart. I told him that we needed service, but just a bed change with clean linens and clean towels would be OK. He stuttered, stammered and ultimately told me that I needed to call the desk, then he literally grabbed his cart and ran in the other direction from me. I called the desk and told them I needed our room serviced. The desk told me that housekeeping wasn’t available after 2 PM. I told them that I just saw a housekeeping staff member outside my room and he said to call the desk. The desk then stuttered, stammered and said, “well we can send a runner to see if we can catch them”. A “Runner”? Seriously?!? 30 minutes later I called the desk and asked about my request. They responded by telling me that they were calling in the Manager to best decide how to deal with my apparently mind-boggling request. I said, how about sending someone up to change the bed? They told me that they were trying to decide whether to bring us sheets or not, and who if anyone would change the bed. I couldn’t believe what was happening. Ultimately, we get a knock on the door and a young lady hands my partner a stack of folded sheets and towels, turns and walks off. Now, we were not informed that our room would not be serviced. As a matter of fact, there was one of those little “leave me on the bed for clean linens” cards in the room. That says that housekeeping will be in that room. Period. If a hotel has that card in the room, service the room. If you don’t want to service the room, REMOVE THE LINEN CARD!! This experience really tainted our stay. I plan on telling my Surgeon all about this and encouraging him to stop recommending the Monarch Hotel for his Patients. Needless to say, we won’t be staying at the Monarch again.…
DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE THE SOUND OF A DRAG STRIP!!! We attempted to have a date night and spend one night away from the kids. we rented a upgraded room with a Jacuzzi tub. Room 244 on a Saturday night. at about 6:30 pm the room began to sound like we were at a drag strip!! We went home around 930 pm because it was apparent we were not going to get any sleep. Cars racing up and down the on and off ramps to the freeway. This also coincided with the first weekend of the BBQ opening. OUT OF Chicken wings!! The first thing to choose on the menu... Not Impressed and the management was not willing to accommodate after complaints.
While the wait staff, bar tenders, and other employees were fine - the front desk was staffed by people who hated life and their jobs. Made reservation for two rooms, they tried to bait and switch for almost 3x more money. when i showed them their confirmation number, combative employee told me I "had to take it up with expedia". Linda, who at least tried to be helpful but clearly was at the bottom of the ladder, called Debora Runnion-Jessup - who literally could be replaced with a magic 8 ball. Debora couldn't be bothered to understand the problem or devise a simple solution - nope, just easier to be a crank and say no. So I canceled all my future bookings - they could have rented me out a "larger" room at the price they collected, would have cost them a room cleaning. Instead it cost them 2 rooms for the following 3 days. With unemployment this high, having a wretched crank who is "not paid to think" is astonishing. whoever is running the restaurant side of that business, needs to replace whoever is rage sleeping behind the wheel of the front desk management. When your job could literally be done by a post it note, it is time to replace the burnt out light bulb that you're calling a manager.…
Where to start... hospitality industry. This place needs a refresher on what that means. The staff was short and abrupt. Almost the most unprofessional display I've seen or experienced. (Even to the point of listening to an inappropriate conversation about customers and vendors on site. Disrespectful and just plain rude.) And honestly for the price point on almost everything, is overrated and over priced. Save your money and have a better experience elsewhere. The only good thing about this place is location, but you can fix that by sleeping in your car in the parking lot. They have been having a lot of car break ins also because of the clientele they let stay there. Motel 6 treats you and your belongings better!
I’ve stayed here many times with my company. The staff has always been extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean & modern. The hotel still has hot food available but with a limited menu for now. I was told 80% of the staff was let go because of the Coronavirus:(. It’s sad not to see familiar faces. I’m hoping when things improve that I will see these same familiar faces again welcoming me or serving me in the Restaurant or Bar again.
I stayed here for one night was charged twice. I noticed my bank statement had two charges on it. I went to the front desk they finally fixed the extra charge. A couple days later I was charged again.
We have been going to the Monarch , ever since it opened. Believe it or not, it used to be one of the few places to go out to eat in the Clackamas area. Last year the completely remodeled the restaurant and bar . ALL for the better ! The food and drinks have always been good , but now it’s even better with an updated menu. I took my sister there for her birthday lunch in December. Bythe time we left , the place was packed ! I’m so glad that people are realizing it’s there and better than ever.
