I want to preface all of this by saying that I have NEVER had an issue like this with a hotel before. I booked the Quality Inn & Suites North in Youngstown after 9+ hours of driving. I checked into the hotel at 9PM. I noticed the lobby and elevators were pretty dirty, but I don't expect much when I come to Choice hotels, so I didn't think too much of it. I unpacked in my room and ate dinner at the desk. When I went to get into bed, I noticed a huge red stain on one of the pillows that looked like dried blood. Then I flipped over another pillow to find the same thing. It was extremely off-putting and instantly made me question if the sheets were even cleaned at all-- while in the midst of a pandemic. I called the front desk and the lady told me to come down and get a new room but she wasn't the least bit hospitable. I packed up all my stuff to move at 10:30PM. In room #2, I immediately went to check the bed before unpacking. As soon as I lifted the sheets, there were multiple tiny dead bugs in the bed. I called back down to the front desk. I told her "I have literally never had an issue with a hotel before, but there are dead bugs in this bed". She then proceeded to tell me that she's "never heard of any of this happening in the hotel before" in an accusatory tone. I told her I took photos or she can go check the room herself. She said she didn't want to do that an proceeded to blame me. She did not apologize. She did not offer a new room until I asked. By room #3, it was 11PM and I was dreading what would come when I opened the door. Well, my first impression was that I couldn't even see anything because the light was broken; and then as I walked in, I noticed that the whole room had a horrible fishy smell. The sheets were clean though (thank god), so I settled for broken-light-fishy-smelling-room #3 because I have to drive another 9 hours tomorrow and I can't be f*cked to find another hotel. …
The bed was comfortable. The water in the bathroom has a bad odor. The carpeting in the halls and entry are dirty. The is slight musty smell in the room and other areas. The breakfast coffee was weak. The attendant at the main desk appeared unkempt. I would not stay there again.
I know this is not a high dollar hotel, so i expect some issues, but they seem never ending at this property. I travel frequently, so i gave it two chances... 1. The water temperature in the shower cannot be adjusted to one steady temp. Constantly getting burned in the shower or suddenly cold. 2. The pool is GREEN and Closed in mid july. Closed in june also. Desk clerk says not working well this year. (whatever that means) 3. Beds have a plastic cover on mattress. This makes my skin on mattress side sweat profusely. 4. Had to go online and complain that rewards points were not given, took some time to get my points.
Apparently hotel is famous for teen pool parties, we mistake of booking a room for sleeping. Housekeeping decided 9:50 PM was reasonable time to vacuum hallway, front desk defended that decision. My wife and kept rolling into each other on swayback queen bed. One door card demagnetized. Shabby hotel far past its prime; go elsewhere!
I ALWAYS stay here, each month , for a week, when visiting Youngstown, OH. I LOVE the fact that there is a fitness room, an indoor pool and a restaurant all in one location! The staff is ...2nd to none! AMAZING service and always very helpful!! The only thing I would request...and did, during my stay, was to turn the heat up in the pool room. The pool water temp was wonderful....but the pool room was a bit chilly, despite the heater on the ceiling running.... I asked the lady at the desk if they could “up” the temp...and she said that “we can’t change the temperature in the room because there is a box over the thermostat..”... had a great swim nevertheless!!!! GREAT ROOM...GREAT exercise room, GREAT restaurant, AWESOME STAFF!.... Can’t wait to book my week for next month!!!! ....(April..should be warmer for the swimming room). Thanks …
