I'm so disappointed that St Helens Backpackers is closing down. It is meticulously clean, well equipped and had an excellent location and yet I was very disheartened to hear from the owner that he recieves more complaints about not having 24hr wifi and that he encourages a calm and relaxing social atmosphere rather than a party one, more than anything...

Well located at the entrance of town. Definitely got the impression they wanted you in and out as soon as possible, lots of rules about doors being locked, lights being switched off and strictly enforced shower and check out times, wifi only available between 4-8PM and I was unable to get it to work on my device. Lots of fun...

Stayed one night in the 12 person dorm, although there were only two of us in the room. Overall impression was that, while remarkably clean, the owners were very interested in getting you in and out as quickly as possible. First, check in is only open from 4-8 pm, which is also the only time WIFI is on. You are...

There was no soap dispenser in the shared bathroom, but when I left a bar of soap (for me and others to wash their hands!) it was dispensed of. The towel was free, but I did have to ask for it. The manager was friendly and helpful, but a bit of a 'control freak' - for what other reason would...

Having spent 3 nights here, can recommend St Helens Backpackers. Very clean, central & quiet. Short walk to bakeries etc. Try to visit nearby Blue Tier Reserve if possible. An old mining area in unspoilt rain forest etc.

Planned on only staying the one night but stayed for two. Hostel very clean and tidy. Relaxed friendly atmosphere with good amenities. Owner very helpful and had good information and knowledge about the area. Would recommend staying here.

Location ok. Not far from bay of fires. Cleanliness ok, nothing to say. Saint helens is small and there is nothing to do. If you arrive after 8 pm, it will be hard to eat, bring your own to the hostel. The director of the hostel didn't make any effort to help his guests and to find solutions. Impossible for...

The location is great. Paul, the director of this hostel was very nice and helpful. The room, bathroom, kitchen and common room area were clean and well-organized. Unfortunately, no TV signal and we can only use wifi from 4 PM to 8 PM.

Stayed only a day at St Helens Backpacker. Extremely clean, with comfortable rooms, this hostel looks and feels like a little home. Paul, the owner, is a very friendly and helpful person. He has great advices and excellent knowledges of his surrounding that he loves. I would definitely recommend this place.
