We chose The Old Rectory as a starting point for our week in Snowdonia - and as accommodation close to the Dolgellau parkrun. What a fantastic find! The location, welcome, guest room, and food was second to none. The hosts were thoughtful and generous....and everything was done with quality in mind. We had supper on both nights of our stay...

You were our first guests to specifically stay here so you could attend the Parkrun in Dolgellau which now takes place every Saturday morning and we are so pleased you enjoyed the whole experience. I would love to regularly take part too but sadly breakfast duty keeps me away and so far I have only managed to run in one....

I booked this as a surprise for my partners birthday in July and the stay was outstanding. The room was spacious and well decorated with a four poster bed and huge bath tub. The biggest surprise for us was the food, we were not sure what to expect but it was absolutely outstanding, it wouldn't have been out of place...

We stayed at the Old Rectory on the Lake in the Craig Cogh Room for a long weekend mid-September, to escape the London hustle and bustle for a short period. John and Ricky were fabulous hosts and very welcoming from first arrival on a Friday afternoon, to the end of our stay. Highlights for us were managing to summit both...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Rectory on the lake has been overlooking Tal-y-llyn, in south Snowdonia for over a hundred years. This imposing residence stands on the foothills of Cader Idris and offers five star luxurious bed and breakfast accommodation in a stunning setting. It is the ideal base for the discerning visitor to explore this particularly quiet and unspoilt scenic area of Wales. We are equidistant between the bustling market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau and the delightful coastal village of Aberdyfi. The Old Rectory on the lake has three double letting rooms - all ensuite - and all look out onto the lake. Our bathrooms upstairs were described as being 'outstanding contemporary ensuites' by the Visit Wales inspector when awarding us five stars.Already our culinary reputation is beginning to spread - indeed we have even been mentioned by name in The House of Commons during a debate on Welsh produce. Our chef can cater for any dietary requirement. The Old Rectory on the lake is licensed. We suggest that this is the ultimate place to unwind; the scenery is breath taking and the silence deafening. All our beds have crisp Egyptian cotton sheets and freshly laundered fluffy towels are in every bathroom and also in the sauna and out outdoor hot tub area which - like most of our windows - looks out over the ever changing Talyllyn - enthusiastically penned in our entry in Alistair Sawday's Special Places to Stay book as ' large, lovely and luminous'.We look forward to perhaps welcoming you here very soon. ... more   less
