This was really good pork loin and superb apple fritters and sausages and mashed potatoes . They were well presented and a real treat absolutely superb. the pork and apple fritters should be on the menu on a permanent basis . Nice ambience and nice service . Forget the fancy places pretentious places on the high street and make a...

I can thoroughly recommend The Gaskell Arms for a coaching inn break. The rooms are quirky, large and comfortable, the beer brilliantly kept (with our favourite, Butty Bach, just perfect) and the staff welcoming and friendly, particularly Ian who checked us in and showed us our rooms. The menu is quite traditional and main courses around £10, but each of...

Hotel delightfully quirky, easy parking, in Town centre. Staff fabulous, room large and airy. Breakfast beautifully cooked and presented. Restaurant good, homely food, at very reasonable prices, wines not extortionate either.

We needed to stay in the area to attend a family event and stayed for one night hiring two rooms. Both rooms clean and tidy and although we didn't eat in the evening the breakfast was first class, in particular the sausages and bacon were very flavourful! The staff were particularly attentive especially as we had misunderstood the spoken instructions...

Decor and general surroundings tired and run down, but clean. Like staying with your nan. Very expensive, would expect better in London for the price. Managerial staff rather unfriendly, but young serving staff tried to be more friendly and helpful. Asked for a quiet room, and were given that, then this was reneged on and we were given the room...

Pleasant 17th century coaching Inn with a good sized car park. The hotel has lovely grounds and a terraced area to the rear. Inside the Gaskell Arms benefits from a traditional lay out with separate bar, lounge and dining areas. They offered 3 well kept local cask ales, best range in the town in my opinion. Food was good. Our...

A Family party of 10 visited the Gaskill Arms for a special birthday lunch. The service and food were both excellent. We have eaten here many times as a family group. I can recommend the restaurant as somewhere where you can rely on beautifully cooked food served with a smile.

A group of us (two couples) and dog called in after a rather wet walk that afternoon. The Pub isn't dog friendly, which I don't have an issue with. What I didn't care for was the rude barman who seemed more interested in doing anything rather than serving us. We asked about the possibility of some food, but were told...

I am very sorry to hear that you did not have good service at our establishment and have taken the matter up with the barman concerned . He is normally very attentive and well liked by my customers and therefore surprised to receive this unpleasant review. We are also a 3 star AA rated hotel and restaurant and not a...

Stayed the one night in the Mews accommodation - sitting room, downstairs bathroom and one bedroom upstairs. Clean, comfortable accommodation. Very convenient location for the town (also a useful Nisa just across the road.) Good choice of breakfast with traditional waitress service. Had a pleasant stay.

Stayed for 2 nights, good location short walk into the village and to the Priory. Plenty of free parking. Booked a double room and pleasantly suprised we were given the family room, lovely big room with bay window and the bathroom was huge! Bed comfortable and plenty of complimentary tea, coffe, hot chocolate and biscuits. Breakfast was great with a...
