Stumbled upon this place when staying in the nearby White Swan. Discovered they did food so - unsure where else to go - we gave it a try. It was excellent. Lovely fish and chips, great beer, staff were friendly and everything came out quickly despite it being quite busy. Highly recommended!

Many pubs only do Sunday lunch menus on a Sunday, luckily the Market Tavern does their full menu alongside a Sunday roast. We shared the Northumbrian platter, my husband thought he would need extra bread, how wrong he was! Nettle cheese, chutney, chicken wings, battered fish, smoked salmon, tasty sausage, belly pork meat terrine, mead baked ham and crusty bread!...

Lovely friendly place. Lovely food not too expensive. Allowed dogs into bar area but at back tables felt more like being in a restaurant than a bar. Excellent service best put for food in Alnwick. Very large portions all fresh and well cooked

I was struggling to find last minute accommodation in Alnwick and although this establishment doesn't get great ratings overall on Tripadvisor, I took a chance on it. I really wished I hadn't ! Check in was smooth enough and we were allocated room 3. Please see a previous review on this particular room, its pretty scathing. We were led up...

We spent 5 days 4 nights here in room 3 and everything was clean and serviced daily. We were given a fan as the weather was hot and so was the room but this helped. There is free wifi but this doesn't reach the room we were in and the television kept pixellating and cracking a lot. Also we are...

Went to visit Alnwick Castle and popped into town for lunch. Walked past The Market Tavern and decided to give it a go. We decided to eat at the restaurant located at the back. We were seated but took a while to be served. There was no children's menu but the waitress said that the chef would prepare a child's...

This was not a good place to stay. Parking is for 2 hours only. There is a nightclub nearby and the noise went on until 2 in the morning with people shouting and screaming in the street. The bathroom was awful and the plumbing makes the most horrendous noise; we did not dare to use it at night. We could...

Popped in for a bite to eat and it was gorgeous. Service was slow to start with, however our waitress was fantastic which more than made up for it. We ordered two burgers and two drinks. Burgers served pink and are definitely home made. Absolutely beautiful. And the chips were the best home made chips ive ever had in my...

The Tavern Steakhouse is a pub and restaurant, but also a place to stay - this review is for the lodge, as we didn't eat in the restaurant. So if you get a room for a good rate and are looking for a ok place overnight, why not. It's nothing special, it's clean enough but nothing more. Just ok overnight....

Was really struggling to find somewhere to eat and after a few, sorry we're full, we came across the market tavern. This place was also full in the restaurant but was doing table service in the pub. Good menu and service very Reasonable price and enjoyable

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Market Tavern was taken over, refurbished and reopened in March 2016. A family friendly run pub restaurant and lodge with a smart, fun atmosphere serving a wide variety of lagers, real ales, spirits and soft drinks. A tremendous wine list accompanies the eclectic food offering. Great food in the bar and Steakhouse. Live bands play some Friday evenings, and it's very popular with the locals and visitors to the area. We are located in the centre of town and a two minute walk to the castle and gardens. The Steakhouse has opened to rave reviews, serving amazing Northumbrian steaks, and local dishes. ... more   less
