Lovely service from the start, we had booked a table over looking the river as we had seen it from the bridge in passing earlier that day. Lovely food even better wine! Good choice of food for adults and children. If the sun is out sit outside great views of river and park. Well worth a look for food or...

Been to the Star Inn a few times now. Food is exceptional and the staff are really friendly. Even got a free schnapps to taste before I purchased another 4. Beer garden is amazing. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. I will be heading back there. I had the cumin dusted monk fish with salt and...

The foie gras was delicious and the presentation beautiful . The main course of beef was cooked to perfection but I felt the gravy was so strong and overpowering it spoilt the taste. Maybe it's just me but I do not like alcohol in gravy on a Sunday Lunch. My husband had the pork and I thought that much better...

Sorry that you found our 'Ale Gravy' too alcoholic and didn't like our laundered flatcaps! If you mention this on your return, we'll try to find you some non-Ale Gravy and serve your bread on a plate! Many thanks AP

Spent one night here. Had room 3 which was clean, comfortable and luxourious. Lovely little touches, including a flask of fresh milk. The honesty bar was extremely well stocked. There was cake and cheese etc in the afternoon to which you could help yourselves to. All staff were very friendly. Breakfast was lovely with good choice of items. The meal...

This place reminded us of Tom Kerridge's, the Hand and Flowers, but better! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The starters crab,, risotto and Foie Gras, all fantastic. My main, the chicken was a bit dry and the other mains of venison slightly under cooked alas. Deserts were lovely. Not really anyone obviously in charge, or, indeed a wine...

booked this hotel with a dinner reservation a few weeks ago. 4 days before the booking I received a "curtesy call" just to let me know of the work they are having done. The reception and lounge will be closed and we would have to have breakfast in our room. I should have been informed when I made the booking...

Visited in October 2014 for our Anniversary and to celebrate the birth of our daughter. Room 9 is beautiful....it's so much more than a room.....it's more like a suite. Warm welcome from reception....tour of the hotel....it's gorgeous. Met Andrew outside the restaurant he also was very welcoming and helpful......rarely do you meet owners as nice as Andrew, the personalised menu...

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here on the "Foodie Feast" break for my birthday. Everything was just perfect from the moment we arrived. Every detail had been thought of, from the wonderful afternoon tea in the lounge, and the nightly turn down service, to the luxury breakfast in the morning. We stayed in room 1 with the bath at the...

This is one of our favourite places so it was lovely to be back after about 5 years, I immediately checked all the old furniture in the pub for the distinctive mouse of Robert Thompson, all still there! A lot has changed since then, there is a lovely seating area in the garden and a new restaurant. The first evening...

This was our first "Michelin dining" experience. Although we eat out at higher end places, we fancied combining a stay in North Yorkshire with a top end restaurant for my birthday weekend. Wow. We walked into a pub with a roaring fire and great cask ales on the bar. We were welcomed with canapés before dinner as we had a...
