Walpole, Walpole, Walpole... What can I say about you ay? You magnificent relic. There have only been a few moments in Begby's long and fruitful life that really knock us off our socks and YOU Miss Walpole, passing through your doors, was one of them! Another that springs to my mind was my first lambing season on my aunt's farm....

To start with, if you like quirky and vintage - and I do - this is THE hotel for you. It is the epitome of a time capsule and you HAVE to take that in to consideration when thinking about staying here. having said all of that, the beds are comfortable, the food was good, the staff are incredibly friendly...

Would not recommended the cream and scone tea. It looked appetising enough, a well set tea tray with two large scones apparently home made but when attempting to pick the scone up it fell to pieces and tasted decidedly doughey. The waiter assured us the scones were adequately cooked but helpfully changed them for another two, which he assured us...

We stayed for one night. Hotel is a litle gem, rooms are large and well appointed. Staff are all friendly and helpful. Dinner was delicious, all food is freshly prepared. Hotel itself is very interesting. Would stay again.

We visited for Sunday lunch, booking about ten days in advance and requesting a window table. On arrival the table request seemed to have been lost/forgotten/ignored and we found ourselves adjacent to the piano (very pleasant) in a corner. The bar has been very sensibly extended but incomprehensibly all of the draught beers have been removed. The meal was very...

We stayed there for 3 nights in early December. The first night we were the ONLY people there. Can they survive with such low bookings?? They obviously do a lot of catering for special local events and there seemed to be a lot of parties going on in the daytime and early evening while we were there. The exhibition of...

18 of us stayed here for New Years Eve dinner, disco, bed and breakfast. And how we all enjoyed it. Beautifully decorated for Christmas, the hotel was a pleasure. Quirky certainly, a few chipped edges maybe, but clean and friendly, the staff couldn't do enough to make our stay a success. Our rooms were varied and interesting, the whole group...

This is a unique and quirky hotel that I highly recommend. I stayed here with my sisters and the service and food were excellent. The rooms are filled with old world charm - although the mattresses were not comfortable, hence the loss of a star. The staff could not have made you feel more welcome and the vegetarian choices for...

Stayed for one night with my wife + had dinner, which was first class - I recommend the duck breast with cherry sauce. The place is truly amazing - great building, great room, great staff, great food and the museum exhibits are vast and so interesting On arrival we were welcomed by the reception staff and then later by the...

Fascinating hotel with wonderful staff. Great views and handy for the beach and early morning dog walks. In the area visiting relatives but would come back here just to enjoy this lovely hotel. Fantastic veggie food too!
